The study is guided by exchange theory. This was a desk research which used the internet and secondary sources. The study revealed that the imposition of sanctions is regarded differently by those who imposed them and by those on whom the sanctions were imposed. Each side explains the imposition of sanctions on the basis of their own interests. For the Zimbabwean government and the ruling party sanctions were imposed as a result of the land reform carried out by the government to solve the uneven distribution of land in the country. On the other hand, the western countries who imposed sanctions explain the sanctions as being caused by the Zimbabwean government's failure to respect human rights and lack of rule of law. The study also reveals that there is divergent interpretation of whether the sanctions were legal or illegal. The Zimbabwean government believe that the sanctions were illegal as they did not have the blessing of the United Nations but those who imposed the sanctions believe they were legal as they passed through their parliamentary institutions. Sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe had a negative impact on the economy to a certain extent as they are other factors for the economic instability in the country. It is recommended that the Zimbabwean government should try to improve the political environment in the country to influence those who imposed sanctions to remove them.

In 2009, Zimbabwe had an estimated 39% prevalence for high BP. Control of high blood pressure is dependent on clients’ adherence to self- care practices. Objective: To identify reported self-care practices and determine the relationship between reported self-care practices and blood pressure levels of hypertensive clients at Bindura Provincial Hospital. Materials and Methods: A descriptive correlational study design was used. A sample of 80 hypertensive men and women attending review at BPH was systematically selected. Data was collected using a questionnaire after obtaining a verbal and written consent. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 15) was used to analyze data. The study employed the socialisation theory, within the symbolic interactionist school of thought. The study is qualitative in nature, which used a case study research design. The target population is confined to those above the age of 20. The study sample was drawn out through the use of a combination of convenience and purposive sampling. The sample size consisted of 30 participants, and 8 key informants. Structured interviews were utilised as the primary tool for data collection, whilst thematic content analysis was employed to analyse the findings. Findings reveal that IK has made significant contributions in terms of behavioural regulation, thus deterring individuals from exposing themselves to HIV/AIDS risk factors. However, the study also revealed that indigenous knowledge on the prevention of HIV/AIDS is quite fragmented, thus recommends that existing knowledge be compiled into an independent and unified knowledge base from which scientific inferences can be made. The study recommends further research into the efficacy and utility of measures suggested by IK in the treatment of HIV/AIDS.

The study was informed by Bourdieu’s theory of habitus. A case study design involving a self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from sixty-four respondents sampled using a census method of sampling. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics and presented on tables and pie charts. The study revealed that police officers were aware of corruption through training, discussions, presentations by bosses and literature. Police officers do not continue to learn about corruption through formal means like workshops. They perceived that corruption existed in the police force; believed that police corruption was due to low salaries, poor working conditions and greediness. Police officers perceived that the existence of corruption in society was due to low salaries, long time in positions of authority and greediness. They also said that corrupt people were usually the rich, the middle class, c...

This study sought to find out student nurses’ perceptions of the HIV and AIDS problem at Bindura ... more This study sought to find out student nurses’ perceptions of the HIV and AIDS problem at Bindura School of Nursing in Zimbabwe. About 45% (64) of the student nurses’ population (141) completed questionnaires. Interviews were carried out with ten students, a clinical instructor, and a tutor as a follow-up to questionnaire responses. Data collected was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and presented on tables and as interview quotations. Student nurses’ perceptions were looked at under three themes: caring for HIV and AIDS patients; single student nurses’ perceptions about HIV and AIDS preventive measures and married student nurses’ perceptions about HIV and AIDS preventive measures. The study revealed that student nurses stigmatized AIDS patients as they expressed discomfort and fear when handling them. They feared possible accidental pricks as they sometimes did not have enough protective resources. Single student nurses had positive perceptions about the...

From a target population of 338, a 30 % (101) sample was chosen using stratified and random sampling methods. Data was collected using questionnaires and focus group discussion. The study revealed that students have high levels of knowledge. Students believe the course had a positive impact on their sexual behavior. But evidence from the study show that some students are still involved in risky sexual behavior as they battle with influences of peers, financial problems, growing up and looking for happiness. Of particular concern is the problem of trust which leads students to stop using preventive measures. In his theory of social reflexivity Giddens cautions people about the relationship between trust and risk. Students believe the HIV and AIDS course is important for them but suggest improvement in the way it is taught. A comparative study is recomme...

This was a desktop research which mainly used internet sources and textbooks. It also draws from the writer’s experience as a teacher and lecturer. The paper is guided by the constructivist theory about learning. The paper shows that lesson introductions are an important component of a lesson as they act as a motivator and lays base for better understanding of the topic to be learnt. Similarly a conclusion is also important as it acts to focus on main points learnt and to what extent these have points have been grasped. It is recommended that teachers make an effort to introduce and conclude their lessons. Future papers can discuss challenges faced by teachers in introducing and concluding lessons in primary and secondary schools.
