Of the diverse locally made cassava products, pupuru (fermented cassava flour) is one of the most consumed in Ondo state. The constraint of high perishability necessitates additional processing and bio-fortification as the solution. Value-added bio-fortified pupuru hygienically packaged now adorns store shelves against the traditional pupuru sold in the open market. Information from 120 respondents, was selected through a multi-stage sampling procedure, using an interview schedule to determine their willingness to pay for value-added pupuru. Majority of the respondents consume pupuru (75.8%), at home (62.5%), whenever available (59.2%) and purchase it (51.7%) from the open markets. There is low knowledge, but favourable attitude based on its ease of consumption (ẍ=3.95), preservation (ẍ=3.85) and non-toxicity (ẍ=3.80). The majority (60.0%) are willing to pay the extra cost of value addition. The correlation showed a significant relationship between consumers’ knowledge (r=0.624), perception (r=-0.328) and willingness to pay (p=<0.05) for value-added pupuru. Availability, affordable price and endorsement from trusted people influenced their willingness to pay. Increased investment in value-added, popular local foods like pupuru shows great promise for higher income generation, strengthening household nutritional security and agricultural development.

Major constraints to social group membership identified by the respondents were low financial capacity (mean=1.13), poor group coordination (mean=1.22), lack of education (mean=1.08), leadership issues (mean= 0.98) and religious differences (mean=0.95). Institutional support to strengthen social group membership because of its advantages;

The emergence of ICTs has given rise to digitization, which is the delivery of agricultural advice via audiovisual messages (video), interactive voice response (IVR) and short message services (SMS) among others. Efforts should be made by the stakeholders in agricultural extension to digitize the country's extension system by capitalizing on the existing enthusiasm among extension practitioners, and farmers using lessons of best practices from elsewhere.

The study used stratified sampling technique to select 80 extension officers of the Agricultural Development Project in the 4 zones of Ondo State. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis. The results show that extension officers rated level of job performance, emotional intelligence and organizational commitment as high while job satisfaction and leadership member exchange as low. Significant and positive correlation (p<0.01) existed between each variable and work performance. Regression analysis results showed that emotional intelligence, job satisfaction, and leadership member exchange were significant turnover intention factors that affect job performance. The R2 value of 0.731 indicates that the three (3) factors gave 73.1% explanation of the variance in extension officers’ job performance. The resul...

A safe space for the rural populace to operate is imperative for agricultural development and food security. This study investigated the level of criminal activities occurrence among farming households in Akoko South Local Government Area, Ondo State. Multistage sampling procedure was used to select 120 household heads using interview schedule. Data on respondents' socioeconomic characteristics' and criminal activities experienced were analysed with descriptive statistics like frequency counts, percentages, weighted mean score. Results showed respondents were married (70%), Christian (70%), literate (93.3 %) and male (70%) with mean age and household size of 43.3years and 5.6 persons respectively. Criminal activities identified to be highly prevalent in the area include farmland destruction by grazers (2.73), herdsmen attack (2.70) and farm produce and livestock theft (2.10). Moderately prevalent vices include gangsterism (1.97), destruction of properties (1.93), kidnapping (1.87) and violent fight (1.87) while attempted murder (0.97), manslaughter (0.97) and child stealing (0.83) had low incidence rates in the study area. This shows that farming households suffer more from livelihood related criminal activities, which consequently poses a challenge to their productivity. Hence, the developmental agencies should create job to reduce youth unemployment, increase peace building capacity between Herders and farmers and increase law enforcement presence in rural areas for sustainable production of Agricultural produce.
