This article demonstrates both the impact of ideological views and individual actors on the circulation, adaptation, and dismissal of cross-border ideas and the impact of innovations on their views and actions. As such, it contributes both to our understanding of world exhibitions as mediators of educational reform and to the existing scholarship on the history of educational technology.

From Japanese-style pasta sauce to the Israelisation of Arab-Palestinians' food culture, this book investigates a variety of cases related to food and nationalism across the world. Its authors draw on a variety of cases: from the everyday activity of individuals, to the commercial sector's efforts to sell their products, to gastrodiplomacy conducted by nation states. Through such examinations, Food, National Identity and Nationalism shows how useful the food and nationalism axis is in the study of politics, and how politics and food permeate every level of human life

To gain a better understanding of this evolution, we conducted a discourse analysis to examine the proclamations made by cookbooks authored by celebrity chefs and influencers and their alignment with our society.MethodsWe conducted a critical discourse analysis on 18 best-selling cookbooks published in Flanders (Belgium) between 2008 and 2018. Applying Fairclough's three-dimensional framework, we conducted text, process, and social analyses to delve into the content and context of the cookbooks.ResultsOur analysis reveals that modern cookbooks not only provide information but also aim to inspire and entertain readers. Around the same time, new pedagogical theories gained ground, which argued in favour of visually aided, more experiential forms of teaching. By investigating the pedagogical discourse on the introduction and use of image projection in Belgian primary and secondary schools between 1880 and 1920, this study investigates how campaigns for the educational use of lantern slides framed the optical lantern as an educational medium and to what extent this discourse was influenced by contemporary pedagogical theories. As such, this study sheds new light on the professional pressures placed on teachers and the expectations of how they should use media, and how these demands were often at odds with teachers' practical pedagogy.

The aim is to investigate how food was used by the organizing elite as a politicized instrument for cultural expression and diplomacy and for national typification, by analyzing the menu cards and descriptions of these banquets in official documents and newspapers. In what ways did Belgium try to establish a certain relationship to the guests invited to the table? To what extent and how did Belgium use this diplomatic arena to construct a national identity? How did the country, during these ritual meals, deal with the Flemish-Walloon tensions that it faced internally? And to what extent did economic factors play a role in the choice of certain ingredients or dishes?
