Transmission Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, collected as the average of 128 scans with a resolution of 4 cm −1 , were recorded from KBr disk on the FT-IR Bruker Tensor 27. Attenuated total reflectance (ATR) FT-IR spectra were collected as the average of 128 scans with a resolution of 4 cm −1 on a FT-IR Tensor 27 spectrometer equipped with a Pike MIRacle ATR accessory with a diamond/ZnSe element. Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) measurements were performed on a Polymer PL-GPC 50 gel permeation chromatograph system equipped with an RI detector, with either tetrahydrofuran or chloroform as the eluent at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. Molecular weight and molecular weight distribution were calculated with reference to polyethylene glycol standards. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements were carried out with a DSC Q20 V24.4 Build 116 calorimeter under nitrogen flow, at a heating rate of 10 °C/min, from -40 to 170 o C. The samples were quenched rapidly from 170 o C using liquid nitrogen before each DSC heating scan.

The objective is to partition images such that nearby pixels with similar colors or grayscale intensities belong to the same segment. A graph representing an image is derived from the similarity between the pixels and partitioned by a computationally efficient graph clustering method, which identifies representative nodes for each cluster and then expands them to obtain complete clusters of the graph. Experiments with synthetic and natural images are presented. A comparison with the well known graph clustering method of normalized cuts shows that our approach is faster and produces segmentations that are in better agreement with visual assessment on original images.

The electrochemical results indicated that the Mg-5Al alloys containing Zn have a lower corrosion and hydrogen evolution rates than the Mg-5Al based specimens with a decrease of value being observed with the decrease in Zn content. Zn addition induced the precipitation of Mg-Al and Mg-Zn phases in the Mg matrix along with grain refinement and increased an interaction of Zn oxide with Mg and Al products serving as a corrosion barrier.

In this paper, we propose a new clustering method applicable to either weighted or unweighted graphs in which each cluster consists of a highly dense core region surrounded by a region with lower density. We have developed a highly efficient and robust method to identify nodes belonging to dense cores of clusters. The set of the nodes is then divided into groups, each of which is the representative of one cluster. These groups are finally expanded into complete clusters covering all the nodes of the graph. Experiments with both synthetic and real datasets for gene expression analysis and image segmentation yield very encouraging results.
