Broadband penetration is an important phenomenon for IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) as television content is delivered over high-bandwidth computer networks direct to the computer. IPTV industry statistics reveal that there are 2.1 million IPTV users worldwide. According to the latest research report published by IMS, "IPTV: A Global Market Analysis", states that IPTV will reach 27 million households by the year 2010. The industry specialists observe that since then, US has a high penetration rate of cable and pay TV operation, IPTV will have difficulties in gaining the market. On the other hand, due to its immense population and large television market, China is going to be the world's largest IPTV market in a decade.

According to Hall (1997), the representation refers to the production of meaning In our minds through language. The texts that are produced In the media construct meanings and are culturally shared by the readership. Through an analysis of various discourses that deliberate on nationalism, this paper argues that the formation of "national Identity" is a complex process, bound by political, social and cultural implications. Furthermore, this paper argues that national identity is a dynamic process; it changes in accordance with cultures that are constantly changing. In addition, the alternative print media perform as democratic public sphere and provide new dimensions to the national culture.
