Exercise is a powerful modulator of learning and memory function in humans. The cognitive benefit... more Exercise is a powerful modulator of learning and memory function in humans. The cognitive benefits of aerobic physical activity, as well as underlying molecular mechanisms, are well documented in studies on adult rodents. For example, voluntary running wheel activity in adult mice allows for the formation of long term, hippocampus-dependent memory of typically subthreshold learning events 1. One of the primary mechanisms by which exercise enables long term memory is via the regulation of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a molecule critical for hippocampal-dependent learning and memory formation in adult rodents. Less is known about the short and long-term consequences of early life exercise (ELE) on hippocampal-dependent memory and synaptic plasticity, specifically if the exercise is taking place during periods of postnatal hippocampal maturation. We hypothesize that ELE during one week (postnatal days P21-27) or three weeks (P21-41) can enable long term spatial memory ...

Using an enhanced Bayesian framework to integrate de novo and case-control rare variation, we identify 102 risk genes at a false discovery rate ≤ 0.1. Of these genes, 49 show higher frequencies of disruptive de novo variants in individuals ascertained for severe neurodevelopmental delay, while 53 show higher frequencies in individuals ascertained for ASD; comparing ASD cases with mutations in these groups reveals phenotypic differences. Expressed early in brain development, most of the risk genes have roles in regulation of gene expression or neuronal communication (i.e., mutations effect neurodevelopmental and neurophysiological changes), and 13 fall within loci recurrently hit by copy number variants. In human cortex single-cell gene expression data, expression of risk genes is enriched in both excitatory and inhibitory neuronal lineages, consis...

Research paper thumbnail of Tape casting and dielectric properties of SiO2-filled glass composite ceramic with an ultra-low sintering temperature

The tape casting and the dielectric properties of the suitability of dielectric ceramics made of ... more The tape casting and the dielectric properties of the suitability of dielectric ceramics made of silicon dioxide-filled zinc borate glass with an ultra-low sintering temperature (650°C) were investigated. The effects of the dispersion, the binder and the plasticizer amounts on the slurry were found to obtain an optimum composition for tape casting. The sintering temperature dependence on dielectric properties of the tape was reported. In addition, electrodes on a multilayer module made on laminated tapes were prepared using Ag paste and post-firing, followed by scanning electronic microscope to verify the chemical compatibility under the co-firing process. The results show that the composition is well suitable for the tape process for low temperature co-fired ceramic technology.

A recent technology is to develop new dielectrics with ultra-low sintering temperature (usually \650°C) to save energy, reduce processing time, and to enable further integrations with semiconductors, metals or even plastics. In this review, we summarized the materials with ultra-low sintering temperature developed in past over 10 years, which will be helpful for those researchers to not only develop new materials but also improve all technologies in ultra-LTCC fields.

The measurement results indicated a typical relaxor characteristic for all samples. With the increasing of CuO doping content, the B-site order degree increased first and then decreased. However, the frequency dispersion and the relaxation degree decreased first and then increased while the CuO addition content was increasing, which was thought to be strongly correlated with the variations of the B-site order. The opposite variation tendency of the B-site order degree and the relaxation degree revealed that the phase transition dispersity is closely related to the order-disorder behaviors.

In present paper, we detected the microstructures and boundary segregation of BaTiO3 ceramics which were sintered in microwave field. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and transmission electron microscopy(TEM), and chemical analysis methods were employed to detect the microstructure of BaTiO3, element distribution near the boundary of BaTiO3 ceramic. The results shown growth of grain of the ceramic was influenced by impurities such as acceptor, benefactor et al, and the element distribution near the grain boundary of BaTiO3 sintered in microwave field were different with that sintered in conventional method. The boundary segregations of BaTiO3 sintered in microwave field were not obvious as compared to the conventional method because the diffusion was enhanced due to the microwave field.

It was found that the sintering temperature was effectively lowered about 200°C by increasing V2O5 addition content. The grain sizes, bulk density as well as microwave dielectric properties were greatly dependent on sintering temperature and V2O5 content. The 4ST–6LMT ceramics with 0.25% V2O5 sintered at 1400°C for 5h in air exhibited optimum microwave dielectric properties of ɛr=50.7, Q×f=15049.6GHz, Tf=−1.7ppm/°C.

The phase evolution during the procedure was determined from the thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis, and the x-ray diffraction patterns. The results of transmission electron microscopy indicated that the prepared powders exhibited grain size at the nano-level of 20 ~ 40 nm. Dense ceramics with a theoretical density of around 98% were obtained from the prepared powders after sintering at 1280 °C, a relative low sintering temperature compared with conventional ceramic processes, and the saturation magnetizations of sintered samples were also determined.Research Highlights►No sol or gel form during the synthesis processing using nitrates and citric acid as raw materials. ►The synthesis method needs a low heating temperature (700 oC) compared with conventional solid state reaction. ►The product is a single phase with homogeneous size distribution and nano grains (20 ~ 40 nm) confirmed by TEM. ►Dense YIG ceramic can be sintered at a low temperature (1280 °C) compared with that in conventional processing.

The softening temperature of 554°C and the crystallization temperature of around 650°C for the glass were confirmed by Differential Thermal Analysis result. The X-ray diffraction results show that all SiO 2-filled samples were made up of SiO 2 , a-Zn(BO 2) 2 , Zn 3 B 2 O 6 phases. And there was no chemical reaction between SiO 2 and the glass during densification. And then the dielectric constant decreased with the increasing content of SiO 2. At the level of 15 wt% SiO 2 addition, the composites can be densified at a sintering temperature of 650°C for 30 min, and showed the optimal dielectric properties at 1 MHz with the dielectric constant of 6.1 and the dielectric loss of 1.3 3 10 À3 , which demonstrates a good potential for use in LTCC technology. An early response of the host is hyperglycemia and resistance to the action of insulin, which progresses over time to increased glucose uptake in peripheral tissue. Although the cytokine TNF-α has been shown to exert certain catabolic effects, recent studies suggest that the metabolic actions of TNF-α occur by the downstream regulation of additional mediators, such as macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF). We investigated the glycemic responses of endotoxemic mice genetically deficient in MIF (MIF−/−). In contrast to wild-type mice, MIF−/− mice exhibit normal blood glucose and lactate responses following the administration of endotoxin, or TNF-α. MIF−/− mice also show markedly increased glucose uptake into white adipose tissue in vivo in the endotoxemic state.
