The Electron Paramagnetic Resonance with tooth enamel is widely used in study of various radiatio... more The Electron Paramagnetic Resonance with tooth enamel is widely used in study of various radiation situations. This method is based on the formation of paramagnetic centers due to the ionization. The electron is captured by carbonate anions that appear as hydroxyapatite crystal lattice defects. The probability of formation of radiation-induced defects is proportional to the carbonate impurity concentration and, therefore, determines the enamel radiation sensitivity. The concentration of carbonate anions depends on the content of micro- and macronutrients in water and food, so the enamel radiation sensitivity may differ for people living in different geochemical conditions, as well as in areas with different anthropogenic pollution.
