The aim is to achieve the optimal reorganization of urban freight transport in old town core in the municipality of Celje. Optimal allocation relies on optimization based on the Monte Carlo simulation and represents a first stage of a two-stage optimization approach to re-design the existing urban freight transport. The number of optimal delivery positions is required to be as minimal as possible, which can still assure a maximal service area within the prescribed radius, while keeping the minimal walking distances of delivery personnel between the nearest delivery position and the customerʼs physical location. The main issues of the used heuristic allocation algorithm and the presentation of calculated results are provided. In the near future, the calculated delivery positions are going to be used for the purpose of physical implementation in order to improve the existing d...

After introducing and explaining the pertinent concepts logistics management, IT-based logistics solutions and sustainability, certain conflict areas between IT and sustainability are discussed to gather relevant insights for the development of the assessment model. The balanced scorecard approach and the concept of maturity models are the main additions to determine the assessment model. The assessment model is embraced by a procedure model which includes guiding principles and success factors to look at before the assessment is executed and methods for navigating within the maturity model, managerial implications and aspects concerning the strategic alignment as subsequent discussion points. The chapter concludes with an outlook into further research and practical application as well as a conclusion.

Existing storage assignment models are mainly based on the criterion of order picking time and, to a lesser extent, the human factor. In the paper, a solution to a storage assignment problem using a multi-objective model based on binary integer linear programing is presented by developing a solution that considers order picking time, energy expenditure and health risk. The Ovako Working Posture Assessment System (OWAS) method was used for health risk assessment. The downside of solely health risk-optimization is that the average order picking time increases by approximately 33% compared to solely time-optimization. Contrary to this, the developed multi-objective function emphasizing time has proven to be promising in finding a compromise between the optimal order picking time and eliminating work situations with a very-high risk for injuries. Its use incr...

With the growth of global trade imbalance, the repositioning process has become necessary, immediately after emptying a container. The main contribution of this research paper is to enrich the most frequently used methods, models, and applications in the literature, for relaxing the empty-container-repositioning problem. The article presents practices that vary between organizational policies, technical solutions, and modelling applications. A review of optimization models has been used for comparisons, based on specified criteria, such as the time frame, inputs, outputs, scale of the project, and value. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) was applied through the online database Web of Science (WOS). It gives a comprehensive description of all the relevant published documents. On the basis of conducting a brief systematic review, future ...

The approach tackles the problem by considering the trade-off between subjective and objective factors. To obtain mode Preference Rates (PRs) based on subjective factors, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is applied. The objective factors are expressed with the journey time from any point in the map to destination according to the available transport mode choice on the specific connection. The results are presented as PRs of individual transport modes. The model is validated on the conducted the survey, with students of Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) as a target audience. Members of different target groups (age, national, employment) decide differently regarding the transport choice, so it is better to analyse them separately. The presented model can be used for the city transport planning in any urban area. It can help promote the sustainable modes of transport in th...

One of the most significant is the travel behaviour and transport mode choice. This study focus on the changes that the inhabitants of Vienna made in their travel choices because of the virus. The same research about spatial modelling the transport mode choice of commuters in Vienna was completed in 2019 and is a topic addressed in our previous work. Based on our developed methodology, this article indicates that public transport is not a dominant transport mode choice as it was before the virus outbreak. The main result of this paper is geographically defined areas of application of individual alternatives shown on the final map of modal shift in Vienna, which could provide theoretical support for policymakers and transportation planners. For the city of Vienna, we found that the area of the city where cars are now used has increased, which certainly has a negative impact on air quality and life in the city. The advanta...

Automated storage and retrieval systems that are used to buffer materials and products for a specific time period to be used later play significant role in intralogistics activities. In this study, we analyze an autonomous vehicle system known as shuttle-based storage and retrieval system (SBS/RS) in comparison with traditional crane- based system known as mini load automated storage and retrieval system (CBAS/RS). Models for throughput and energy consumption calculations have been proposed for both systems. We also present performance comparison of SBS/RS and mini-load CBAS/RS for the selected storage rack configurations and velocity profile of the selected material handling equipment. The results may serve as guidelines to warehouse designers and managers for designing new or improving existing automated warehouses.

The introduction of which could result into growing larger power consumption in a world. On the other side, some parts of Industry 4.0 can help to reduce energy consumption with the use of smart grid, internet of things, renewable energy, etc. The future of energy seems to be in the distributed energy resources (DER). The chapter presents the use of DER on the example of hospital, which are considered as the biggest consumer of energy in commercial sector. Because of important role of understanding the energy consumption, there is an emphasis on the energy modeling and analysis. The chapter provides a new approach in the modelling of energy with the discrete even simulation in which energy is presented by logistics packages, where every package presents a unit of energy. Basic analyses that can be made with the model are presented.

In general, the theory is lacking studies that would pinpoint concrete methodology to present the redesign of a company specific workplace in a way that would follow guidelines of the Industry 4.0 systematically. In this research, the authors have primarily focused on a digital readiness and identification of potential areas and tasks suitable for the implementation of enabling technologies. Collected data are based on the case study conducted in a tooling company. The result is a procedure to generate a systematic approach, a roadmap, towards Industry 4.0. To achieve the redesign of toolmaker's workplace, the authors combined the AS-IS state analysis and use Toolbox Industry 4.0. The effects of a redesigned process manifest in reduced laborious, repetitive manual work, errors, and toolmaker workload.
