Research paper thumbnail of Heat treatment of fluid foods in a shell and tube heat exchanger: Comparison between smooth and helically corrugated wall tubes

Journal of Food Engineering, 2007

Besides the need for high heat transfer performance, also low friction losses and easy cleaning and sanitizing properties of the surface are imperative. In food process industry these requirements are often met by the shell and tube heat exchanger equipped with helically corrugated walls.

Journal of Chromatography A, 1997

A review of the applications of ion chromatography (IC) to the determination of inorganic ions in... more A review of the applications of ion chromatography (IC) to the determination of inorganic ions in food is presented. The most promising sample preparation techniques, such as accelerated solvent extraction, supercritical fluid extraction, solid-phase extraction, UV photolysis, microwave-oven digestion and pyrohydrolysis are discussed. Among the various inorganic anions, nitrogen, sulphur and phosphorus species and halides are widely determined in foods and to a lesser extent only, cyanide, carbonate, arsenic and selenium species are considered. IC determination of inorganic cations deals with ammonium ion, alkali, alkaline-earth, heavy and transition metals particularly and only a small amount of literature is found on the other ones, like aluminium and plantinum. A particular advantage of IC over traditional techniques is the simultaneous determination of several species.

Research paper thumbnail of Use of ion chromatography for the measurement of organic acids in fruit juices

Journal of Chromatography A, 1995

A gradient ion chromatographic method to separate and determine main organic acids in fruit juice... more A gradient ion chromatographic method to separate and determine main organic acids in fruit juices was developed. The method allows the separation of organic anions on Dionex OMNI PAC PAX-500 column by NaOH gradient elution and conductometric detection. The main organic acids of fruit juices (citric, malic, tartaric) were separated together with other less abundant acids. More than 500 samples
