Presence of HPV has been reported in breast carcinoma which is the second most common cancer in India and is showing a fast rising trend in urban population. The two early genes E6 and E7 of HPV type 16 have been shown to immortalize breast epithelial cells in vitro, but the role of HPV infection in breast carcinogenesis is highly controversial. Present study has therefore been undertaken to analyze the prevalence of HPV infection in both breast cancer tissues and blood samples from a large number of Indian women with breast cancer from different geographic regions. Methods The presence of all mucosal HPVs and the most common high-risk HPV types 16 and 18 DNA was detected by two different PCR methods - (i) conventional PCR assays using consensus prim...

Hence, to find out the frequency of breast cancer in Goa, this retrospective study for the years 1994 to 1997 was done from the data of breast cancer patients reported to Goa Medical College (GMC). Aim was to study frequency of breast cancer in Goa for further research on etiology of breast cancer. Adhoc and mini surveys in different pathological labs and retrospective study of clinical records for years 1994 to 1997 from the Department of Pathology in GMC. Retrospective method and clinical records in percentages. High frequency of breast cancer in Goa (27%) for the period 1994-1997 and also high frequency of Christian breast cancer patients in Goa (65%) compared to Hindu (28%) and Muslim (7%) breast cancer patients as per female population in Goa in 1997 was observed. Increasing trend of breast cancer in Goa in accordance with national and international level in the study period was observed. High frequency of breast cancer (27%) in breast cancer patients reported to GMC, increasing trend of breast cancer and observation of higher no. (66 %) of breast cancer patients in Goan Christians may indicate that whether individual genome in interaction with environmental factors such as western lifestyle (comprising dietary habits and other habits) may contribute to breast carcinogenesis in Goan breast cancer patients. Retrospective study is useful and valuable for doing further research on breast cancer. With disease burden estimation, it is possible to devise diagnostic, prognostic and effective treatment measures to curb the disease for disease free longer survival of breast cancer patients and to develop preventive strategies against breast cancer occurrence.

Primary cultures from two adult specimens were aseptically initiated with mechanical dissociation (mincing) of the adults. Adherence and growth of explants and cells were observed in Grace insect medium with 1% FBS and 1% antibiotic and antimycotic solution (10,000 U/ml penicillin, and 10 mg/ml streptomycin and amphotericin B 100 μg/ml). The interaction and effects of plant viruses, aphid viruses and enodymbionts on SWA cell cultures can be studied. The SWA cell cultures can also be useful in studying the effects of chemical pesticides and to develop the biocontrol for SWA. Effects of plant extracts and of toxins can also be studied on SWA for SWA biocontrol without affecting the plants, the livestock and the humans.

Presence of such CA in the normal Peripheral Blood Culture (PBC) could be used to identify individuals in high-risk groups. Therefore, early diagnosis, cure and in some cases, prevention of such tumors can be achieved. Molecular analysis at population level is a tedious and very costly technique. Hence, a primary screening of Breast Cancer (BC) patients with highly sensitive marker(s) using a less expensive methodology namely PBC, was carried out in the present study. Our earlier studies indicated that there is a high frequency of BC compared to other types of cancers in females reported in Goa Medical College (GMC). Hence, present work was undertaken to analyze the chromosomal instability in BC patients using PBC. Altogether, 79 subjects were studied involving BC patients (47 subjects) [comprising two groups, (i) Radiotherapy treated (RT) group (19 subjects) and (ii) Surgery (S) group (28 subjects)] and control (C) group (32 subjects). We found that there is a high frequency of dicentrics (27.65 %) in BC patients compared to that of controls (3.13%) and a high frequency of dicentrics in RT group (36.84%) compared to the S group (21.43%). The observation of dicentrics in S group indicates that there may be inherent chromosomal instability in these patients, which may be inducing tumorogenecity.

The FMDV suspention was inoculated on BHK-21 cell line and the cytopathic effects were determined after introduction of herbal extracts of eight different plant samples to check the antiviral activity and these herbal extracts are: Withania somnifera
