In this research, the newly proposed reservoir management approach called CSSU (Carbon Sequestration Storage and Utilization) method is trying to change the paradigm of CO2 from waste material into economic materials. A reservoir characterization study has been applied on a Brownfield located in Sumatra, to improv... more A reservoir characterization study has been applied on a Brownfield located in Sumatra, to improve accuracy of a geological model, using a newly developed procedure employing anomalous impedance and integrated geology, geophysics & reservoir, in order to locate potential remaining reserves. Seismic inversion was performed using both checkshot data and synthetic checkshot, and field division by blocks was identified through the help of variance cube maps. The seismic inversion produced anomalous impedance that was generated through cross-plot analysis could separate sand and shale better. Hence, by applying crossplot and statistical analysis between the anomalous impedance & petrophysical data obtained from well log analysis yielded a correlation between seismic and well data that will be used for facies modelling. Summary Indonesia oil production is in the stage of mature fields dominant having a current oil r... more Summary Indonesia oil production is in the stage of mature fields dominant having a current oil recovery factor of 32% leaving underground about 48.6 billion barrels of unrecoverable oil in place ( SKK Migas, 2016 ). At this stage, Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is a mandatory choice to lift up the unrecoverable oil. SKK Migas and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) conducted a study in 2015 to evaluate the EOR potential of 136 fields in Indonesia. EOR screening processes was firstly conducted using the combination of Al-Adasani (2011) and Taber (1983 & 1997 ) studies to determine the most suited EOR methods for each reservoir. Following the screening results is forecasting additional reserves for each reservoir applying the US Department of Energy (DOE) formula. Two different cases of injection simulation were performed and analyzed in this paper. The cases represent the conditions when the smallest and largest volumes of CO 2 are injected into the subsurface to see the changes of reservoir that happen after the injection processes. The simulation result shows that when a larger amount of CO 2 is injected into the targeted reservoir, it will migrate to the peak of anticline structure located in the southeast of CO 2 injection well. The displacement of CO 2 in the simulation progress shows that it will not reach the fault location. The geological model for synthetic seismogram calculation is then built based on the simulation reservoir result. If the production rate is not optimum, then it is not either economic, or, it generates bad effects to the reservoir performance. Currently, general guideline which is used for an optimum production rate is 30% of the Absolute Open Flow Potential (AOFP). This study shows how is validity of the guideline above for various well and reservoir conditions. As its consequences, a new method is developed which has function as a guideline to improve well performance. The analysis begins from comparing between production rates which are resulted from the optimization calculation and from field production rates. Ketidakpastian parameter geologi dan reservoir ini perlu dikaji dikarenakan tidak adanya data core dan SCAL, kurang lengkapnya data PVT serta baru dua sumur yang dikembangkan pada lapangan gas-X ini. Dengan demikian kajian ini penting dilakukan untuk mengetahui tingkat ketidakpastian parameter geologi dan reservoir pada lapangan gas-X ini. In these research, the vibration stimulation was applied to 6 core samples of coal which have a r... more In these research, the vibration stimulation was applied to 6 core samples of coal which have a range of permeability from 0.240 mD to 58.85 mD, used overburden pressure of 300 psi and the injection rate of 100 psi of nitrogen gas. The results of this research show that the stimulation could increase the coal permeabilities from 7.35% up to about 160% and the most reliable result is 40% (sample L) increment. Furthermore, there is a relationship between amplitude and permeability improvement that indicates an optimum amplitude to maximize the vibration effect, and, this optimum amplitude depends on the original permeability of the core samples. Further in depth investigation using reservoir simulation that correspond to the laboratory study yield an indication that this new vibration method can reduce the dewatering process by about 45.45% (sample A3) from the normal dewatering time and could increase the CBM production up to 1.58 times (sample L).

A method to relate sectors and inter-regions, i.e., Inter-regional Input-Output (IRIO) Model, is employed to predict the impact of the upstream potential on the down stream. This techno-economic study examines the allocated gas from three gas field blocks altogether at Maluku and West Papua Provinces, i.e., Tangguh, Masela, and Kasuri, to supply the demands of (1) power plants; (2) fertilizer industries, and (3) petrochemicals industries. To help with this difficulty, we offer a cost-effective method of boosting hydrocarbon recovery by optimizing well locations. A new software program has been developed to optimize vertical well placements based on the Simulated Opportunity Index (SOI). SOI is an intelligent method to identify zones with high potential for production. The production potential of an oil & gas field area is empirically calculated from basic rock and fluid properties, and from reservoir pressure as its energy capacity. In order to obtain the best results, the original SOI formula (Molina et al., 2009) was extended to both oil and gas fields. Declining production in oil recovery operations is a major concern in the oil industry. Each of c... more Declining production in oil recovery operations is a major concern in the oil industry. Each of commonly applied EOR methods has a number of limitations as well as some undesirable results. Vibration stimulation technologies are an alternative method in improving production and increasing recovery in which the vibration is thought to facilitate production by, in one view of diminishing capillary forces; reducing adhesion between rocks and fluids; or causing oil droplets to cluster into "streams" that flow with the waterflood, and the other view of enlarging pore volume. Various laboratory investigations have been conducted to find out the effect of high and low vibration frequency on the reservoir rock properties. A study of low-frequency waves is of special interest because of the potential for reservoir stimulation by surface-based vibrators. Reservoir resonant frequencies should be selected to get the maximum improvement in reservoir rock properties. The results of the laboratory research show that effect of vibration causes an increase of effective porosity up to 9.17%. Optimum frequency is 15 Hz in all of the experiments. Furthermore, this investigation also tries to seek a semi-analytical equation for optimum frequency based on the laboratory result. The general resultant equation has the format:

CO2 is one of the components that needs to be separated from natural gas. The CO2 concentration of natural gas varies from a content of less than 20 mole % to more than 80 mole%. There is a problem when the content of CO2 is very high so it is necessary to modify the CO2 level reduction by modifying the equipment or changing the operating conditions to meet the desired CO2 purity. If the production rate is not optimum, then it is not either economic, or, it generates bad effects to the reservoir performance. Currently, general guideline which is used for an optimum production rate is 30% of the Absolute Open Flow Potential (AOFP). This study shows how is validity of the guideline above for various well and reservoir conditions. As its consequences, a new method is developed which has function as a guideline to improve well performance. The analysis begins from comparing between production rates which are resulted from the optimization calculation and from field production rates. Ketidakpastian parameter geologi dan reservoir ini perlu dikaji dikarenakan tidak adanya data core dan SCAL, kurang lengkapnya data PVT serta baru dua sumur yang dikembangkan pada lapangan gas-X ini. In these research, the vibration stimulation was applied to 6 core samples of coal which have a r... more In these research, the vibration stimulation was applied to 6 core samples of coal which have a range of permeability from 0.240 mD to 58.85 mD, used overburden pressure of 300 psi and the injection rate of 100 psi of nitrogen gas. The results of this research show that the stimulation could increase the coal permeabilities from 7.35% up to about 160% and the most reliable result is 40% (sample L) increment. Furthermore, there is a relationship between amplitude and permeability improvement that indicates an optimum amplitude to maximize the vibration effect, and, this optimum amplitude depends on the original permeability of the core samples. Further in depth investigation using reservoir simulation that correspond to the laboratory study yield an indication that this new vibration method can reduce the dewatering process by about 45.45% (sample A3) from the normal dewatering time and could increase the CBM production up to 1.58 times (sample L).

A method to relate sectors and inter-regions, i.e., Inter-regional Input-Output (IRIO) Model, is employed to predict the impact of the upstream potential on the down stream. This techno-economic study examines the allocated gas from three gas field blocks altogether at Maluku and West Papua Provinces, i.e., Tangguh, Masela, and Kasuri, to supply the demands of (1) power plants; (2) fertilizer industries, and (3) petrochemicals industries. To help with this difficulty, we offer a cost-effective method of boosting hydrocarbon recovery by optimizing well locations. A new software program has been developed to optimize vertical well placements based on the Simulated Opportunity Index (SOI). SOI is an intelligent method to identify zones with high potential for production. The production potential of an oil & gas field area is empirically calculated from basic rock and fluid properties, and from reservoir pressure as its energy capacity. In order to obtain the best results, the original SOI formula (Molina et al., 2009) was extended to both oil and gas fields. Declining production in oil recovery operations is a major concern in the oil industry. Each of c... more Declining production in oil recovery operations is a major concern in the oil industry. Each of commonly applied EOR methods has a number of limitations as well as some undesirable results. Vibration stimulation technologies are an alternative method in improving production and increasing recovery in which the vibration is thought to facilitate production by, in one view of diminishing capillary forces; reducing adhesion between rocks and fluids; or causing oil droplets to cluster into "streams" that flow with the waterflood, and the other view of enlarging pore volume. Various laboratory investigations have been conducted to find out the effect of high and low vibration frequency on the reservoir rock properties. A study of low-frequency waves is of special interest because of the potential for reservoir stimulation by surface-based vibrators. Reservoir resonant frequencies should be selected to get the maximum improvement in reservoir rock properties. The results of the laboratory research show that effect of vibration causes an increase of effective porosity up to 9.17%. Optimum frequency is 15 Hz in all of the experiments. Furthermore, this investigation also tries to seek a semi-analytical equation for optimum frequency based on the laboratory result. The general resultant equation has the format:
