It is a slow growing, high grade, soft tissue malignancy of mesenchymal origin. It has marked propensity for local recurrence, regional lymph node involvement and distant metastases. Clinical diagnosis is difficult and radiological findings are nonspecific as well as inconclusive. Therefore, histopathological examination along with immunohistochemical markers are required for the confirmation of diagnosis. Here, we report a case of a 65 years old female, with retroperitoneal mass.

India accounts for one fifth of the world's burden of cervical cancer. Cytology screening by the Papanicolaou smear remains the main stay for control of cervical carcinoma. Liquid-based cervical cytology was developed to improve the diagnostic reliability of Conventional Pap smears. The present study was undertaken to evaluate a manual liquid based cytology technique (SurePath) and to compare the sensitivity of LBC with conventional Pap smear. The aim of the study was to compare the cytomorphology of conventional pap smears and manual liquid based cytology smears and to find out whether manual liquid based cytology method can be established for routine use in our laboratory setup. In the present study cervical smears were collected by the gynaecologist using Ayre's spatula for the conventional Pap smear method and using SurePath cytobrush for manual liquid based cytology technique. 200 cases were examined for cytomorphological parameters. The details regarding cell size, cytoplasmic and nuclear details were studied for making the diagnosis. The observed results indicated that women screened with an LBC sample had significantly decreased detection rates of inadequate smears and increased detection of low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL)/ atypical cytology. Cells were better preserved and not obscured by blood, mucus, or inflammatory cells. The results showed increased sensitivity of LBC without loss of specificity. Liquid based cytology improves the quality of the sample and reduces the likelihood of false negative cytology results. Thus it will significantly improve early detection and treatment of cervical lesions.

Usually occurs in perimenopausal women between the age group of 40-50 years. Patients come with symptoms similar to uterine leiomyoma, abnormal vaginal bleeding or abdominal pain, some patients may be asymptomatic. There is a high chance of it to be mistaken for leiomyoma clinically. Although rare, ESS should be kept in mind in women presenting with bulky uterus. A definitive diagnosis can only be made on histopathology. Surgery and postoperative radiotherapy is the most effective treatment.

These arise from developmental defects in the lymphatic system. In this article we report a case of 15 years old male patient who presented with right supraclavicular swelling. Initial physical examination was followed by Ultrasonography which reported differential diagnosis as lymphatic malformation, cystic thyroid lesion. The histopathological examination of the surgically excised specimen confirmed it to be Cystic hygroma. Hence, histopathology plays an important role in confirming the diagnosis required for optimal management and better prognosis.

In India over a lakh women are diagnosed with cervical cancers each year of which nearly 50 % succumb to death. Cervical cancer is the second most common carcinoma seen in 15-44 years age group which if diagnosed early and treated the morbidity can be reduced by 70% and mortality by 80%. Cervical smear is a sensitive, simple, safe, noninvasive and effective method for detection of pre-cancerous and non-cancerous changes. Aim: The objective is to study the role of pap smear in diagnosing premalignant and malignant as well as nonneoplastic lesion of the cervix and to determine the incidence of various lesions. Material and Method: A retrospective study of six months on Pap smears examination was carried out in cytopathology section in Central Laboratory of MGM Medical College Kamothe. Around 701 smears were studied ranging from 18-90 age group. The smears were taken with sterile Ayers spatula. Materials were smeared on a pre labelled glass slides to form a monolayer thick smear. Slides were fixed with methanol, which after drying were stained by rapid pap method. Result: A total of 701 cases were screened there were 582 abnormal pap smears with 119 normal pap cases 24 cases were inadequate for opinion, 468 showed inflammation 29 cases of atrophic smear 2 cases of HSIL and 3 of LSIL, 4 cases of CIN 1, 22 of candida, 3 suspected cases Chlamydia trachomatis, 4 of AGUS,16 of bacterial vaginosis and 6cases of trichomoniasis were seen in the smears studied. Conclusion: Incidence of malignancy can be prevented by pap screening programmes. Pap smear helps in early detection and management of malignancies hence reducing mortality and morbidity. Pap smear studies are cost effective, doesn't need experts and specialists for collection. Therefore, till today it is the most useful screening procedure for malignant and pre-malignant conditions.

In rotary motion; position, velocity and acceleration control are the tasks required most often for robotics. The achievement of velocity control is one of the popular technical issues in motion control and industrial applications. The traditional approach for velocity control is PID based feedback controllers. PID controllers are not suitable for the applications subjected to higher external disturbances. This paper proposes a Disturbance Observer (DOB) based velocity controller. DOB together with the tuned PID controller can make the system robust. To validate the proposed method, stability analysis and experiments were carried out with and without DOB. The velocity responses of the experiments were analyzed for different modes of disturbances with different observer gains. The performance of the proposed controller shows enhanced results compared to the traditional velocity contr...

Changes in haematological parameters are likely to be influenced by any disease condition which affects the haemopoetic physiology at any level. This is likely to happen with an endemic disease such as malaria that affects the host homeostasis at various fronts resulting in a myriad of clinical presentation. Malaria is a major cause of morbidity in the tropics. Two hundred and forty seven million cases were reported worldwide in 2006 [3]. Haematological changes are some of the most common complications in malaria and they play a major role in malaria pathology. These changes involve the major cell lines such as red blood cells, leucocytes and thrombocytes. In Western Kenya, severe anaemia is the predominant severe malaria syndrome peaking in the first two years of life and is attributed to Plasmodium falciparum [4].

However, umbilical polyps need to be investigated thoroughly to ensure complete resection and to rule out extension into the abdominal cavity. Further, such umbilical polyps may cause complications due to the presence of ectopic tissues inside them. The present case is the first reported case of three tissue types, viz. Pancreatic, Gastric, and Small Intestinal tissues, being present ectopically in an umbilical polyp, which had caused persistent umbilical discharge with severe local excoriation and ulceration in a 2 year old child. CONCLUSION Umbilical polyps with ectopic tissues can lead to severe complications if not treated properly, and should be ruled out in all cases of persistent umbilical discharge in the paediatric age group.

Demonstration of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals in fine needle aspiration (FNA) smears from nodular masses clinically suspected to be tophi establishes the diagnosis unequivocally. CASES Of the 7 cases in this study, 4 were suspected clinically to have gouty tophi. Giant cell tumor of tendon sheath, giant cell tumor of bone and metastatic tumor with multicentric involvement of bone were the clinical diagnoses in 1 case each. Serum uric acid levels high enough to be in the diagnostic range for gout were reported in 3 cases, within normal limits in 3 cases and low in 1 chronic alcoholic patient. Bright field microscopy of FNA smears revealed singly scattered or stacks of MSU crystals with variable number of inflammatory cells, with or without foreign body giant cells in 6 cases. In 1 patient, FNA showed stacks of MSU crystals only. Characteristic birefringence of MSU crystals was observed on polarizing microscopy. CONCLUSION FNA demonstration of MSU crystals on polarizing microscopy can easily establish the nature of the nodules in and around the joints and in soft tissue as gouty tophi and is thus an investigation differentiating this lesion from other masses clinically simulating it.
