Proper nutrition is very essential for adolescent girls to improve the quality of not only their ... more Proper nutrition is very essential for adolescent girls to improve the quality of not only their life but also the life of future generation as well. Despite the importance of this crucial period of life, there is little information on adolescent girl’s nutritional status. So, realizing this gap researcher tried to assess nutritional status of the adolescent girls of rural setting as a part of the study with the objective to examine the nutritional status of adolescent girls and identify the determining factors. The study was done in Goldhunga VDC with total sample size of 254 married and unmarried adolescent girls of age 12-19 years selected by the convenient sampling approach. This study used both quantitative and qualitative tools of data collection.The study finding shows poor nutritional status in the form of stunted growth that is common among girls. High-value underutilized grains—millets, buckwheat, and barley—are crucial for the food and nutri... more High-value underutilized grains—millets, buckwheat, and barley—are crucial for the food and nutrition security especially for the people of high hilly and mountainous regions of Nepal. Characteristics such as climate resilience and easy traditional storage technology without any microbial damage have made these grains smart. Availability of sufficient research on the food and nutrition security aspect, promotion of better farming, and consumption of these high-value grains are at a minimal level. Their role in achieving nutrition security is not adequately identified and understood; they do not feature in food and nutrition policies and programs of Nepal, so it is still hard to erase negative fads and myth about these grains called as poor people’s diet, kuanna, * impure diet (especially for millet). The situation is still threatening the public health in both rural and urban areas. Objective There are limited reviews on the iron deficiency situation in Nepal. This study was undertaken to find out the extent of iron deficiency anemia and intake of dietary iron among the general population in Nepal. Materials and methods Published research articles, books, bulletins, and online materials regarding iron deficiency were studied in both national and international scenarios. Results Nearly 46 percent of children (6–59 months) and 35 percent of women (15–49 years) were still suffering from anemia though the trend has been decreasing for the last 15 years. Mostly, young children (6–23 months) and pregnant women were the victims due to their high iron requirements and lower intake of dietary iron.
