Infection of pregnant women is linked with high mortality and morbidity of the fetus and the mother is at high risk to acquire chronic Q fever. This research was conducted to evaluate the prevalence of Q fever in women and to detect associated risk factors in four districts of Punjab Province, Pakistan. Methods: A total of 297 blood samples were obtained from 147 pregnant and 150 non-pregnant women of the districts Okara, Jhang, Chiniot and Faisalabad of Punjab, Pakistan. Data related to risk factors and demographic parameters were collected using a questionnaire. Serum samples were screened for phase I and phase II specific IgG antibodies for antigens of phase I and phase II using ELISA tests. Univariate and binary regression were used to analyze important risk factors of Q fever. Results: Twenty-five serum samples (...

Brucellae are Gram-negative intracellular bacteria which infect a wide variety of animals including goats, sheep, buffaloes, cows, pigs, and wildlife. The objectives of this study were to determine the seroprevalence and spatial distribution of brucellosis in Central Punjab, Pakistan. A total of 1083 blood samples of goats, sheep, buffaloes, and cows were collected from 38 villages of four districts (Kasur, Faisalabad, Lahore, and Okara) of Punjab, Pakistan, and screened for brucellosis by Rose Bengal Plate test (RBPT) and PCR confirmed. Epidemiological, demographic data and GPS coordinates for every sample were collected. By using interpolation of the Aeronautical Reconnaissance Coverage Geographic Information System (Arc GIS), a surface plot was generated applying inverse distance weight (IDW). It was found that 35 (3.23%) serum samples were positive for brucellosis. In eig...

There is very little data available about the burier of wires under the skin reduces the pin tract infection rate as low as 2.27%.2 Objectives: To compare the frequency of pin tract infection between nonburied and buried K-wires after open reduction internal fixation in supracondylar fracture of humerus in children. Study Design: Prospective Cohort Study. Setting: Department of Orthopedics Surgery & Traumatology Allied Hospital Faisalabad. Period: From June 2014 - June 2017. Material & Methods: Patients were selected according to the inclusion criteria. All patients were registered in ER with a history of trauma and having the diagnosis of Supracondylar fracture. Two groups were made; Group A (Buried), Group B (Non-buried). They were followed for the signs of infection. Results: Out of ...

Repetitive movements are considered to be the root cause of this disorder. This disorder involves overexertion of fingers and wrist extensors that causes significant disability ultimately affecting the quality of life. The basis for diagnosing lateral epicondylitis is very clear clinically. The strategy of injecting steroid locally has proven to dispense predictable and consistent transient relief of pain. Recent treatment involve Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) administration locally. Study Design: Prospective study.

Demographic trends in Pakistan suggest a significant increase in the demand for total hip replacement surgery. The current study was planned to assess the outcome of THA at our centre in terms of pain relief and functional improvement by using pre and postoperative HHS. It was observed in this study that the functional outcomes were highly encouraging. Patients were handicapped because of pain, loss of movements and inability to carry out day-to-day activities due to arthritis of the hip joint. The same functional improvements were noted from examination of the patients according to Harris Hip Score. The descriptive case series was conducted at Punjab Medical College and affiliated hospitals from July 2013 to July 2014, and comprised patients of either gender 25 years or more of age with primary or secondary OA of hip. Severe complications in total hip replacement comprise dislocation, aseptic...

METHODOLOGY: An online cross-sectional survey was conducted on medical students and doctors/clinicians/faculty in Balochistan, where the questionnaire (10 items) was posted on google platforms after Eid-ul-Adha between 10th to 31st December 2020. Inclusion criteria consisted of first to third year medical students and clinicians whereas fourth and final year, house officers and postgraduate students were excluded. Pilot study demonstrated reliability of questionnaire Cronbach's alpha 0.624. SPSS version 23 was used for analysis. RESULTS: In current study majority (n=82/126) of the study participants were males, more than half of them were medical students (n=73/126). Eighty percent (80%) participants (n=66/82) offered Eid's congregational prayer in masjids, 11/82 prayed at home only five (n=5/82) of them didn't perform prayer at all; majorit...
