The operation cycle of mill boring is analogous to milldrilling with the difference of the already existing bore in the workpiece. The typical formation of millings allows an automated manufacturing of deep bores with internal contours in solid material in only one setting. This leads to new possibilities to design parts in a lot of engineering areas. Tool monitoring keeps the milldrilling tool and machine tool apart from damage or even breakage and avoids the loss of workpieces. The relative simple design of this equipment accomplishes the requirement for an industrial application.

This is due to the deformation of the part by the clamping force of the chuck. Even low clamping forces cause elastic deformations of the clamped workpiece, which results in surface errors due to machining after the unclamping and

Hence it requires a lot of time and money to deburr them. In addition, burrs which come off in the later operation can lead to resultant damages. Examinations of intersecting holes showed that the effective exit surface angle, the angle between drill wall and exit surface, is crucial for burr formation. Based on the burr calculation for exit surfaces perpendicular to the drill axis, a method of calculation was developed out of the experimental results. By means of this calculation method the burr value g can be predicted for the short hole drilling of intersecting holes.

For analysing cutting processes, a new cutting layout with a single shear plane is proposed here to calculate the specific tangential forces. The specific tangential forces in the different shear zones were examined by experiment to verify one of the hypotheses in question. These analyses verified that the forces depend fundamentally on cutting parameters and cutting layouts. Hence, it is necessary to take account of a correlation between yield point and deformation temperature, when determining the mechanical properties of the cutting material during machining. It is suggested here to determine the mechanical properties from the conditions compensating the hardening and the softening of the cutting material.

Problems of improving efficiency and quality of diamond-abrasive finishing of optical materials b... more Problems of improving efficiency and quality of diamond-abrasive finishing of optical materials by tools with bounded polishing powders, including diamond powder, by means of the improvement of the machining technology and application of new tools with functionally oriented designs and characteristics of working layer are considered. A model has been proposed of the slime particle formation and directional removal as well as of the generation of a high-quality surface in diamond-abrasive finishing of optical materials taking into account the peculiarities of the mass transfer in the contact zone and statistic character of the distribution of slime particles by size. The dependences of the particle number on the diffusion angle and coordinate of the contact have been derived in the studies of the dynamics of collision and diffusion of slime particles. The coordinate dependence of the flat surface roughness of glass K8 optics in fine diamond grinding has been described. Interaction and dispersion of deterioration particles in a contact zone of the tool and a processed sample in the course of polishing is described and the dispersion structure of deterioration particles of the tool on slime particles and on deterioration particles is explained oscillatory. It is shown, that differential dispersion section of deterioration particles on slime particles no less than on deterioration particles as much as possible at corners of dispersion close to 0 and 180° on the central sites of a contact zone. Coordinate dependence of full dispersion section of deterioration particles of the tool and dependence of microprofile height of the processed surface on circular zones radius are calculated. Conformity of experimental and theoretical microroughness profiles of a polished surface on a quartz sample is shown.

Tools were previously manufactured by near net-shape ceramic injection molding with subsequent debindering and sintering. Cutting edge rounding and recession were investigated for defined cutting parameters and distinct cutting distances. Cutting forces were measured dependent on tool material and feed travel. Wear characteristics of ceramic cutting tools were investigated by SEM. Ceramic injection-molded tools were successfully applied in wood-machining operations. Wear mechanisms changed with different ceramic composites used. Results of microchamfered ACY tools showed superior lifetime compared with standard WC–Co tools.
