The Great Reset itself is possibly a public relation gimmick (as is somehow the editorial of that issue). The background story is very likely the transition from thermodynamic economy (relying mostly on carbon and hence fossil fuels) to a so-called information-propelled economy which does rely on rare earth etc. This transition will provoke a reconfiguration of the society as we know it since the industrial revolution. This essay is based on the author’s own practical experience with a focus of the cyber-revolution, but shifts the focus on supposed hard fact behind the Great Reset specter, to be identified on the frontiers between the then new thermodynamic and old slave-holding socioeconomic configuration in the case of the antebellum USA. Several “lighthouse events” before the US war of secession signal the real ideology and mentality of the so-called “Confederate States of America” responsible for the sad fact that the USA was the only 19th-century polity to require a war for abolishing slavery.

He was suspected to be a spy or doble-agent. This paper does not prove or disprove if Columbus was an early 007. It pieces things together to identify the true origins of Columbus' plan to search the east in the west. The idea is to apply network analysis to the problem

The burning question concerns the world after the Covid-19 pandemy. Based on the infancy of the Renaissance Humanism after the end of the 14th century's Black Death a foresight study is drafted based on the Austrian astronomer Georg Purbachius at the wake of the "scientific revolution" in the 15th century

The so-called “scientific revolution” of Renaissance Humanism may have had started earlier than hitherto assumed: The Austrian astronomer Georg Purbachius (German: Georg von Peuerbach) initiated the scientific instruments for Columbus’ great voyage.
The following texts, Part A and B had been sent to the Austrian Journal “Der KonaK” (Austrian Association for Continental America and the Caribbean) due to my project “Early phases of globalization: Georg von Peuerbach” sponsored by the municipality of Vienna, now stalled due to the Covid 19 plague:

This paper will draw on some identifiable propellants of World System analysis. The so-called “scientific revolution” of Renaissance Humanism may have had started earlier than hitherto assumed: The Austrian astronomer Georg Purbachius (German: Georg von Peuerbach) and his disciple Johann Müller (known as Regiomontanus) initiated the scientific instruments for Columbus’ great voyage.
The present global Covid-19 epidemy arises a burning question among critcal minds: What kind of world we have to face after the end of that pandemy? The following foresight exercise is based on my project on Georg Purbachius who implemented Renaissance Humanism in Vienna -Austria after the end of Black Death, the European plague of the 14th century - and the respective text is a draft.
Part A and B had been sent to the Austrian Journal “Der KonaK” (Austrian Association for Continental America and the Caribbean) due to my project “Early phases of globalization: Georg von Peuerbach” sponsored by the municipality of Vienna, now stalled due to the Covid 19 plague.

The German-written paper submission (stipulated to be in German) was rejected by the Mitteilungen der anthropologischen Gesellschaft in Wien allthough they launched a call for papers on the anthropological dimensions of war. Was I wrong? I would like to have a discussion on that. The following text is written in German, an English version is intended to be submitted at adequate papers - co-authors are welcome

The trap of Thucydides is an international rivalry between an established power and a rising power. My catchphrase is: The trap of Thucydides in the age of fake news and alternative facts (related to my paper on the trap of Confucius).

The present paper was motivated by observations of the iconic role of Chile’s Augusto Pinochet during Donald Trump’s election campaign … especially the Trumpians’ battle cry “Free Helicopter Rides to Lefties”. The Global Risk Report 2016 put the issue of (dis-)-empowered citizens on the agenda, which is a notion that may open an avenue to understand the risks of populism. Another populist regime at the edge of a hegemonic shift in the World System is a parallel: The populist revolution of Paraguay. A version for discussions among my colleagues will be uploaded after another field trip to clarify conceptual issues.

The present paper was motivated by observations of the iconic role of Chile’s Augusto Pinochet during Donald Trump’s election campaign … especially the Trumpians’ battle cry “Free Helicopter Rides to Lefties”. This was the most abominable “meme” during the propaganda of the “Meme war” (Some of those memes are now subject to online geo-blocking in Austria since April 2017).
The Global Risk Report 2016 put the issue of (dis-)-empowered citizens on the agenda, which is a notion that may open an avenue to understand the risks of populism. Another populist regime at the edge of a hegemonic shift in the World System is a parallel: The populist revolution of Paraguay in the context of the establishment of the 19th century political World System at the Congress of Vienna (1814-15). The development of Paraguay was successful but too slow to stand the political challenges that ended up with the War of the Triple-Alliance or the “Great War” against Paraguay (1864-1870). It will be argued that due to populism which could be justified by some needs of nation building in Paraguay after 1811 the social incentives for scholarship and learning were nullified … at the end of the day Paraguay had to pay the price for having been trapped by the trap of Confucius.
Keywords: World Systems, US-nativism, Paraguay, populism, China’s New Silk Road

This draft paper based on documents in archives argues that such political lines would have require backbones - so the absence of something simiilar to the present Chinese conception of One Belt One Road may have had dire consequences.

The history of America can be told as a story of resistance from the beginning of the European invasion at the end of the 15th century until, for example, in 1974 when a group of Mexican historians or residents in Mexico convened, under the auspices of the Faculty of Letters from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), to the First Meeting of Latin American Historians under the treat of the repression of the right-winged dictatorships in Bolivia, Chile and Uruguay, together with the archaic dictatorships and totalitarian systems as political heritage of the 1930s that, having continued as establishments in Brazil, Paraguay, Nicaragua and Haiti. .Since then the ADHILAC is a forum for innovative historiography by investigators, not so much by stockpiling citations.

Conferencia ADHILAC La Habana, 2019
A conference of ADHILAC (Asociación de los Historiadores Latinoaméricanos y del Caribe) in Havana... more A conference of ADHILAC (Asociación de los Historiadores Latinoaméricanos y del Caribe) in Havana, Cuba focused upon the Spanish civil war and the impact of the Republican refugees on Latin America. But there had been a civil war in Austria in February 1934 (and afterwards a Nazi uprising in the same year). Some of the defeated Austrian socialists joined the Republican army (los brigadistas internaciónales) to fight against Francisco Franco’s troops. The government of the Viennese district 10 has tales of a pub in Vienna which hosted a group of regulars, Austrian veterans of the brigades. The pub ceased to exist. To find anything out, I used some methods I had used in Peru for my “agricultural anthropology”. But the results were a surprise, my “archaeological” method did not produce the history of that group of regulars (tertulia en la posada) but a hidden and mysterious history of Austria and her “historical capital” in Latin America.
The Austrian resistance against Nazi Germany in Brazil started in the same year of Austria’s annexation by Nazi Germany. It reportedly had motivated Getulio Vargas to back Austria’s struggle for independence which was restored in 1955 to end the occupation by the Allied Forces. A key figure was the Austrian consul Otto Heller who obviously told the story to the Austrian historian Norbert Hölzl. It was very hard to find some political reports written by Otto Heller’s hand or evidences outside Hölzl’s report.
Due to the extreme shortage of historical evidences I focused my presentation on the concept of “historical capital”.
The wave of student's protest along with the 1960ies civil right movement culminated in the year ... more The wave of student's protest along with the 1960ies civil right movement culminated in the year of 1968 which is known to Europe as the revolution of 1968 - somehow belittled as a "cultural revolution" by some historians. No it was a revolution likely enforced by technological drivers. Some of them were identifed by Plachetka's panel distribution at an international conference in Vienna in 2018. This contribution is presented at the following paper: Uwe C. Plachetka "The Revolution of 1968 – were there socio-economic drivers? " International Sociological Association RO2: Economy and Society Dec 2017, pp. 22-25
