Nevertheless, this relationship has been taken for granted. Despite research done in the area, not a lot has centred explicitly on finding the connections between race and language learning. This article addresses that point in an attempt to shed light specifically on English language learning and teaching. We used a qualitative research methodology to analyse oral and written narratives that were produced by participants telling their experience as English language learners. This article underscores the results that relate language learners’ racial experiences as a crucial factor in the configuration of their identity as well as the economic, social, and cultural factors involved.

Positive discipline is a concept that emerges as an alternative to physical and humiliating punishment. One of the reasons for this comparison between strata is that despite the literature review, no research was found to illustrate the differences and similarities found in the forms of discipline in relation to the socioeconomic stratum. After doing the literary review and defining the population to be investigated, the data were collected, which was done in two kindergartens in the city of Bogota. Semi-structured interviews were applied to 17 parents with preschool children in stratum 2-3 and 5-6, with questions regarding about discipline experiences and recommendations to end physical and humiliating punishment.

We hypothesized that the progression of bladder cancer could be accompanied by changes in cells glycolytic profile. We studied two human bladder cancer cells, RT4 and TCCSUP, in which the latter represents a more invasive stage. The levels of glucose, pyruvate, alanine and lactate in the extracellular media were measured by Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. The protein expression levels of glucose transporters 1 (GLUT1) and 3 (GLUT3), monocarboxylate transporter 4 (MCT4), phosphofructokinase-1 (PFK1), glutamic-pyruvate transaminase (GPT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were determined. Our data showed that glucose consumption and GLUT3 levels were similar in both cell lines, but TCCSUP cells displayed lower levels of GLUT1 and PFK expression. An increase in pyruvate consumption, concordant with the higher levels of lactate and alanine production, was also detected in TCCSUP cells. Moreover, TCCSUP cells presented lower protein e...

The coating products and oxidised products formed on the TiAl substrate were investigated by optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. Single layers of TiAl3 were formed on the substrate of all the aluminised specimens. Through thickness cracks and pores were often observed inside the coating layers. High quality coating layers (7sim;30 μm) containing a very small amount of microcracks and pores were obtained by a treatment of 800°C for 3 h. The average surface hardness of the aluminised specimens (∼1010 HV(25 mg)) was much higher than that of the TiAl (∼396 HV (25 mg)), thus improving the wear resistance. In particular, the aluminising significantly improved the high temperature oxidation resistance. After the high temperature oxidation tests, four sublayers, i.e. α-Al203, TiAl2, TiAl w...
