The scale was administered to 30 patients, mostly in the elderly age group (Mean age 59.43±10.28 years) seeking prosthodontic rehabilitation at Chandra Dental College and Hospital, Barabanki (U.P.), India. On testing the internal consistency of the scale, it was found to be reliable (Cronbach alpha 0.711).ResultThough functional needs emerged as the topmost priority for patients yet emotional needs were found to be as much important while social needs and financial needs occupied the lower tiers on the hierarchy of treatment needs. The differences in relative importance of...

However, after going through the article, we have found certain discrepancies, which are highlighted as under Title of the article The title of the article gives an impression of collection of information from city areas (urban), however, the findings depicted seem to have been collected from both city (urban) as well as town areas (rural). Lewis Mumford (1937) has clearly indicated that a city is a fundamental proposition of urban life. Moreover, in Table 1 of the article in question, the authors have shown 37.6% of their respondents to be rural, however, while describing the occupational profile only 146 (7%) respondents have been shown to have opted for the occupation "agriculture". As per the definitions of urban areas prevalent in India viz. "Specified towns with governments and places with 5,000 or more and at least three-fourths of the male labor force not in agriculture" (Haub, 2009) it is difficult to assume that 37.6% population is rural in nature and only 7% have agriculture as their occupation.

This provides sufficient space for an adequate bulk of material between the tooth and the sulcal wall. The impression material entering the gingival crevice must have sufficient bulk and rigidity to withstand distortion and tearing when the impression is removed from the undercut areas and poured. 1 The critical sulcal width has been reported to be approximately 0.2 to 0.4 mm at the level of the finish line. 2 Impressions with less sulcal width have a higher incidence of voids, tearing of impression materials, or reduction in marginal accuracy. 2 The quality of the impression, however, is directly influenced by clinical parameters such as the location of the finish line, periodontal health, and sulcal bleeding during impression making. 3 The use of displacement cords as a mechanical or chemomechanical technique is well established because of its relative predictability, effectiveness, and safety

Awareness regarding practical knowledge of cheiloscopy and palatoscopy is ambiguous among dental professionals. In the present work, an effort was made to introduce an educational training module for dental professionals with a view to improving the data recording and interpretation methods. A computer aided statistical method has also been suggested, i.e., systematic stage-wise filtering to test the uniqueness of lip and palatal rugae patterns. In this study, dental professionals were asked to match random lip and palatal rugae patterns before and after training. Proportions of accurate matching pre-and post-training were then compared. A systematic stage-wise filtering method was used to prove the uniqueness of lip prints and palatal rugae in large samples. It was observed that the educational training module helped to improve the ability of dental professionals in identifying individuals based on lip prints and palatal rugae. Application of systematic stage-wise filtering technique eased the process of checking the uniqueness of patterns.

Oral Biol. Craniofac. Res. 2012; 2 (3): 154e158) with interest. However, the high prevalence of third molar involvement in present study is questionable. According to Barrera and Meyers (2012), 1 "Angle fractures occur in a triangular region between the anterior border of the masseter and the posterosuperior insertion of the masseter. These fractures are distal to the third molar" and hence it is difficult to assume 42/50 (84%) cases having third molar in fracture line. They have also shown 36% (n ¼ 18) of their cases to be in age group 11e20 years. In a study by Olze et al, 2 median age of eruption of third molars has been reported to be ranging from 18.9 to 19.7 years among females and 18.0e22.5 years among males. Even at high estimates, at least 9 patients do not seem to be having emergence of third molar at this age. It is surprising to see such high prevalence of cases with involvement of third molar and that too with a substantial number of cases in age group 11e20 years. Despite higher risk association of mandibular angle fracture with third molars, the figures quoted are unrealistic and refute the observation that third molar involvement is dependent on intensity of impact. 3 The estimated relative risk of mandibular third molar involvement has been shown to be 2.4 in a metaanalysis of 3002 cases by Hanson et al (2004). 4 Má aita and Alwrikat (2000) 5 also found this risk to be 2.25 only. However, in present study, the proportion of patients with third molar to that without third molar was 9:1, which is surprisingly too high and needs further explanation especially with respect to exact age wise distribution of cases in age group 11e20 years.

Materials and Methods: A total of 15 hemi-mandibulectomy patients participated in the study. All had various degree of mandibular shift consequent to surgery. The patients were given a guiding flange prosthesis for about 4 months, and the efficacy of the guiding flange prosthesis was calculated in terms of percentage deviation corrected after 4 months. Results: Time elapsed between surgery and prosthetic rehabilitation was in inverse relation to the percentage correction in mandibular deviation at 4 months (B =-7.668; p = 0.002). The less the initial deviation postsurgery, the better the correction (B = 9.798; p = 0.008). Conclusion: Percentage correction of mandibular deviation is dependent on the timing of prosthetic rehabilitation. The less the initial deviation, the better the correction.

Normally, small self-assembled peptide nanostructures contain hydrophobic moieties, therefore, their solubility in aqueous systems poses the important challenge in the field of molecular self-assembly in order to make effective use of these in a wide variety of applications. To improve their aqueous solubility, the self-assembled amphiphilic α,β-dehydrophenylalanine containing small glyco-dehydropeptides, Boc-Phe-ΔPhe-εAhx-GA (I) and H-Phe-ΔPhe-εAhx-GA (II) with glucosamine (GA) attached at the C-terminal through a 6-aminocaproic acid linker, were synthesized, demonstrating the formation of nanostructures in aqueous media, which were characterized by DLS, AFM and TEM. Further, nanostructure II reduced auric chloride to gold nanoparticles and formed a peptide-gold conjugate (VII). The feasibility of using the nanostructures I and II as nanovectors for drug delivery was demonstrated by loading hydrophobic molecules, eosin and N-fluoresceinyl-2-aminoethanol (FAE) dyes. Besides, these peptides displayed antimicrobial activity against Micrococcus flavus, Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. All these results advocate the potential of these nanostructures as efficient vectors for drug delivery applications.
