Two current controllers topology are presented: PI (Proportional-Integral) and the LQI (Linear Quadratic Regulator with integral action). First will be explained on the growth of the electricity sector and how the power electronics is contributing to this through various VSC applications in AC power systems. Next is discussed on the operation of VSC, the pulse-width modulation method (PWM) used and the design of the VSC parameters. It also presented a voltage referenced vector control and the controllers PI, LQR (Linear Quadratic Regulator) and LQI, the first and last goals of this work. From this are made simulations using PSCAD / EMTDC software to validate and compare the control strategies.
