Research paper thumbnail of Sergančiųjų odos melanoma sarginių limfmazgių biopsijų prospektyviojo tyrimo duomenys RESULTS OF THE PROSPECTIVE STUDY ON SENTINEL LYMPH NODE BIOPSY IN PATIENTS WITH SKIN MELANOMA

Taigi galima atsisakyti anksciau placiai taikytos pro‚laktinės limfadenektomijos, kuri sukelia dažnas nepagydomas pooperacines komplikacijas ir neturi įtakos odos melanoma sergancių ligonių isgyvenamumui. Straipsnyje pateikiami odos melanoma sergancių pacientų SLB prospektyviojo tyrimo rezultatai, kai sarginių limfmazgių (SL) nustatymui naudotas radiofarmacinis preparatas, radiometrija ir audinių dažas. SLB atlikta 24 moterims ir 14 vyrų. Daugiau kaip trecdaliui (36,8 proc.) pacientų, kuriems atlikta SLB, odos melanoma nustatyta apatinėse galūnėse, dažniau moterims. Audinių dažais nusidažiusių SL dažniau aptikta apatinėse galūnėse. Krūtinės ir juosmens, galvos ir kaklo srityse dažniau nustatyta radioaktyvių nei nusidažiusių SL. Atlikus morfologinius tyrimus melanomos mikrometastazių sarginiuose limfmazgiuose rasta 10,5 proc. atvejų. Sarginius limfmazgius audinių dažais pavyksta nustatyti ne visose srityse vienodu dažnumu. Todėl radiometrija yra pagrindinis, o audinių dažas – pagalbinis tyrimo metodas sarginiams limfmazgiams nustatyti odos melanoma sergantiems pacientams. Reiksminiai žodžiai: sarginio limfmazgio biopsija, odos melanoma.

Research paper thumbnail of Sentinel lymph node biopsy for high-risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma: Analysis of recurrence-free survival

Medicina-lithuania, 2016

CSCC has a tendency to spread via lymphogenic pathway. Metastases are found in 2%-6% of cases. Prognosis of patients with CSCC is directly related to the morphology and localization of primary tumor. The aim of this study was to evaluate the recurrence-free survival of patients with CSCC after tumor excision and SLNB as well as to analyze morphologic CSCC features related to patient recurrence-free survival.

People injure hands so often because namely hands are in the closest position to the dangerous equipment. According to the data of various authors, the injuries of hands and fingers make even 30-75% of all industrial traumas, and burns of hands account for about 6% of all traumas of hands. The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of active surgical treatment method with conservative treatment method, applied for the treatment of deep dermal partial skin thickness burns of the hands, wrists, and forearms of distal third. Materials and methods. A total of 49 patients with burned hands participated in the perspective study of random sample (totally 79 hands). All these patients were treated in the

European Journal of Plastic Surgery, Apr 14, 2000

The study group consisted of 19 patients who successfully underwent weightbearing surface reconstruction with free musculocutaneous flaps or muscle flaps with a skin graft. The groups were identified on the basis of the free flap used. Group 1: Latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous flaps (11 patients); group 2: Skin grafted muscle flaps (8 patients: latissimus dorsi-6, gracilis-1, rectus abdominis-1). The follow-up period was 1-11 years (average: 8.3 years). Follow-up included documentation of foot pain, presence of ulceration, sensory recovery, the ability to wear normal shoes, and the need for a second operation. In group 1, debulking operations were necessary (8 patients, 72.7%). Debulking was not required in group 2. Ulceration occurred in four (36.4%) group 1 patients and in one (12.5%) group 2 patient. All patients had good deep pressure sensation. All the group 2 patients could wear normal shoes. Four (36.4%) of the group 1 patients had to wear special orthopedic shoes. The gait analysis consisted of two parts: footprint analysis with the Harris mat technique and plantogram of Parotec system by Kraemer. Foot analysis with the Harris mat showed that the pressure on the muscle flap is less than the pressure on the musculocutaneous flap. Gait analysis by the Parotec system showed that in patients with musculocutaneous flaps, static load distribution on the reconstructed bare foot is nearly normal, but dynamic load distribution is pathological. In patients with muscle flaps, both static and dynamic load distribution were close to normal.

Research paper thumbnail of Epidemiology of paediatric burns in Lithuania: Focus on a vulnerable population exposed to the risk of scalds at home without hot tap water supply

The incidence among boys was 149.8 and among girls 99.9 per 100,000. The highest risk of burns was observed from 11 to 15 months of age. Scalding in 0-1 years age group composed 96% of all burns in this age group. Conclusion: Children younger than 2 years of age are a vulnerable population of burns in Lithuania. Scalding was main cause of their burns. The aetiological subgroups of scalding were scalding with hot drinks/food and scalding with hot water meant for household. The major part of scalding with hot drinks was due to scalding with parents' drinks. Scalding with hot water meant for household is associated with the lack of hot water supply.
