The AWK model used in this paper is Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis. Critical discourse analysis, which generally analyzes media texts, can also be used to analyze literary works, including novels. The novel analyzed by Norman Fairclough’s discourse analysis is the novel Bumi Manusia by Manusiaya Ananta Toer. Norman Fairclough’s discourse analysis examines text, discourse practice, and sociocultural practice. The three aspects of Norman Fairclough’s discourse analysis can be answered through the descriptive method text section the researcher can find three basic elements in the Norman Fairclough model, namely elements of representation, relations, and identity in the novel Bumi Manusia. Some Indonesian schools and colleges developed the LMS platform to facilitate online learning. LMS (Learning Management Systems) is a novel concept for the majority of pupils. This study explored the experiences and expectations of students using LMS at an Indonesian government university. This is a qualitative study comprised of interviews. Twenty university students were recruited for interviews. The interview findings were then coded to identify major themes. The interview showed three primary themes: the benefits of employing an LMS, the difficulties of utilizing an LMS, and the future of LMS. The majority of students enjoyed using the LMS during their studies and encountered no operational difficulties. This article explores the representation of irony in WhatsApp Group chats, aiming to identify the... more This article explores the representation of irony in WhatsApp Group chats, aiming to identify the types of irony and narrate the meaning of the irony used. A case study was geared under Perrine's (1966) and Leech's (1981) analysis of the type of irony. Moreover, the result disclosed that touches of sarcasm were the favorable choice of irony to express the participants’ feelings. Sarcasm was detected by using uppercase characters, exclamation marks, and teasing words. Hyperbole and understatement were the second participants’ favorite to use to exaggerate reality and make a dramatic situation. Furthermore, implementing irony in daily conversation with decent knowledge is significant to flourish and enrich their linguistic adequacy to avoid misunderstanding and know the appropriate situation manual students' exploitations of irony will.

The study used a qualitative descriptive method and a critical discourse analysis approach. Therefore, this research aims to employ an AWE platform, Grammarly, to investigate the Indonesian English as a foreign language (EFL) students’ writing profiles in spelling, grammar, punctuation, enhancement suggestion, sentence structure, and style check. The research focused on logico-semantic relations in the Batak Toba wedding ceremony. The researc... more The research focused on logico-semantic relations in the Batak Toba wedding ceremony. The research aimed to discover the types of logico-semantic relations used in mangulosi and describe how they were realized in the Batak Toba wedding ceremony. The research was conducted by using the descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from 2 wedding ceremony videos from 104 clause complexes selected. The study's finding showed that there were 9 of the logico-semantic relations types used in the Batak Toba wedding ceremony. They were consecutively hypotactic enhancement, hypotactic elaboration, paratactic enhancement, paratactic elaboration, hypotactic locution, paratactic extension, hypotactic extension, hypotactic idea, and paratactic idea. The logico-semantic relations were realized in mangulosi in Batak Toba wedding ceremony consecutively conjunction, verb, preposition, prepositional phrase, and adverbial clause which the utterances aimed about the message, prediction in the future, advice, hope, and blessing of hulahula for the bridegroom.

Language learning is a crucial element in children's life. As the millennial generation, children... more Language learning is a crucial element in children's life. As the millennial generation, children nowadays cannot be separated from technology. Therefore, this study was aimed to develop a digital storybook to enhance children's language learning by applying Mayer's principles. This is a collaborative study between researchers from Indonesia and Malaysia. Seventeen children from both countries whose ages ranged from five to seven years old were recruited as the participants. Two experts in children pedagogy were also involved in this study to give feedback from the developed digital storybook. The participants were included in a series of User Experience (UX) Workshops. After the digital storybook has been developed, feedbacks from experts and users were gathered. It was found that this application can improve children language learning. They found new vocabularies and sentences. This digital storybook also introduces them to terms in nature since the stories are about environment. This application can be used by the children but with more interaction with parents and teachers to build more communication.

To be successful in communication with native speakers depends on language skills, customs, and cultural knowledge. In the age of global communication, English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching goals should be reoriented to cultivate intercultural communication competence (ICC). EFL learners should have this intercultural competence and be sensitive in order to avoid disharmony, misunderstandings, and even conflicts in communication. The main objective of this preliminary study is to reveal the levels of intercultural communicative competence among EFL students at a state university in Indonesia. Presenting research findings in terms of clear and concise writing is vital for the English students of the higher education. To this, students should know the linguistic aspects of writing. Previous research shows that a lot of research has been carried out regarding grammatical issues in writing, but little research has been done on deep grammar issues in writing the result section of the thesis. Thus, this study aims to analyze the grammatical issues in student-researchers’ thesis. Data were officially collected from the reading room of the faculty of state university in Medan. The data were analyzed according to Bourke & Holbrook's (1992) theory. The results show student-researchers are still struggling to use verb-form issues, nouns, and tenses. At last, word form remains the most dominant issues of errors.

The development of this application using a Waterfall model defines several phases and must be completed one by one to move to the next step. Waterfall model is recursive because each stage can be repeated without stopping to perfection. This advanced application is handy for students and lecturers. The students can directly see the final results and print them into PDF documents in the form of the report after completing the questions. These test results can be used to evaluate the learning process and predictions on the competitiveness of alumni.

The two chapters chosen are namely Kebajikan yang Mengecilkan and Tiga Hal yang Jahat. This is a qualitative research which involves the stylistic approach in order to bring out the stylistic devices used in the chosen chapters; simile and personification. The data of this study were collected from the two translated chapters of the novel. In this study, it is found that a total of nine figures of speech were investigated: seven figures of simile and two other figures of personification respectively. The results of this study revealed that the simile device focused on illustrating the author's visual reality for the readers about the protagonist's situations, life-story, and imagination. The research conducted was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the research subject of 25 grade IX students of SMP Negeri 14 Binjai in the 2020/2021 academic year. The object of this research is the ability of students to rewrite the contents of the story (rewrite), retell the story (retell), and conclude the moral message as well as relate it to student life (reflection). The learning process to appreciate literature is carried out in two cycles through four stages, namely: the action planning stage, the action implementation stage, the observation stage, and the analysis and reflection stage. The two chapters chosen are namely Kebajikan yang Mengecilkan and Tiga Hal yang Jahat. This is a qualitative research which involves the stylistic approach in order to bring out the stylistic devices used in the chosen chapters; simile and personification. The data of this study were collected from the two translated chapters of the novel. In this study, it is found that a total of nine figures of speech were investigated: seven figures of simile and two other figures of personification respectively. The results of this study revealed that the simile device focused on illustrating the author's visual reality for the readers about the protagonist's situations, life-story, and imagination. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data was taken from LayarTerkembang novelby SutanTakdirAlisjahbana, Then the dialogue of the novel as the data for the research. The findings showed that there were two types of conversational implicature in the procedures namely Generalized Conversational Implicature belong to 33 utterances and Particularized Conversational Implicature belong to 36 utterances.
