In the light of the above, the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 7) advocates for the usage of energy from cleaner sources. Meanwhile, impact of energy usage on human welfare has largely been the issue of concern among the scholars in Nigeria. Against this backdrop, this study examined energy sustainability and human welfare in Nigeria. Consequently, data was collected from secondary sources, and analyzed within the framework of Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) and Granger causality test. The summary of the principal findings in this is enunciated as follows; energy sustainability and life expectancy had a positive and significant relationship in Nigeria. Government expenditures on health had both negative and insignificant relationship with life expectancy in Nigeria. Also, there was a unidirectional causality flowing from life expectancy to electricity consumption from hydroelectric sources in Nigeria. Furthermore, one way feedback flows from government expenditure on health to life expectancy. From these findings, this study recommends that Nigeria would want to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals one (1) - promoting good life for the people, and seven (7) - affordable and clean energy simultaneously before the SDGs timeline elapses in 2030, the Nigerian policymakers and all stakeholders should be aggressively involved in energy sustainability movement in the country."

This is often seen in the 3rd world nations, such as Nigeria. This study aimed to examine the existing phenomenon between whistle-blowing, economic sustainability, growth and development of Nigeria. This study adopted the Theory of Planned Behavior. However, this was a literature review study that basically draws inferences from studies in this field from different continents (i.e. Europe, America, Asia and Africa). Consequently, the objective of this study was to conceptually investigate the whistle-blowing activities in Nigeria as to how it has assisted in curbing corruption in the public space in turn and improving the economic growth and development. In furtherance, this study reviewed events in Afri...
Food has been defined as something good to eat. It could be in liquid, semi solid and solid forms... more Food has been defined as something good to eat. It could be in liquid, semi solid and solid forms and are necessary to carry out one or more of the life functions and the body in terms of health, growth, and normal functions of living organism (Rickets, 1983). The greatest major world problem today is how to eliminate hunger and poverty. Food security has been described as an important aspect in any consideration of wealth and economic development. Food is important to human survival and development. (Iyiola, 1998) opined that in Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, food is among the primary need to be satisfied before thinking about all other needs such as national progress and development. Thus, without sufficient food production in quality and quantity, satisfying other developmental needs will be hindered. Poor feeding will produce unhealthy citizens. An estimated 70 percent of Nigerians live on less than one dollar per day. Nigeria was ranked 40 th out of 79 on the 2012 global hunger index. According to the report, Nigeria was revealed amongst countries with low development index at 153 out of 186 countries that were ranked. Life expectancy in Nigeria is placed at 52 years old while other health indicators reveal that only 1.9% of the nation's budget is expended on health. Similarly 68% of Nigerians are stated to be living below $1.25 daily while adult illiteracy rate for adult (both sexes is 61.3%). Despite the reported growth in the economy, it did not make the list of 11 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa that recorded more than 2% annual human development index (HDI) gains since year 2000 (UNDP, 2013). In a separate report by African Union Commission in 2012, the MDG rating had placed 15 African countries ahead of the 20 countries that made the greatest progress globally and Nigeria was not even listed among the 15 African countries. Nigeria ranked 80 th on food security out of 185 countries with national integrated food security strategy affordability, availability and quality. Food insecurity rose from about 18 percent in 1986 to about 41percent in 2004 (Sanusi et al., 2006). This implies that over 61million Nigerian are food insecure that is are either hungry, under nourished or starving.. Agriculture is the mainstay of Nigeria's economy, employing approximately twothird of the country's labour force and contributing 40 percent to Nigeria's GDP (International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), 2012). Nigeria is the world's largest producer of cassava, yam and cowpea; yet it is a food deficit nation and depends on import of grains, livestock, fish (International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), 2012). Furthermore, of an estimated 71 million hectare of cultivable land, only half is currently used. Pressure from growing population is also impacting the already diminished resources, further threatening food production. Achievement of good security is an insurance against hunger and malnutrition both of which hindered economic development, (Davies, 2009). This is why all countries make a considerable effort to increase their production capacity. The root problem of inadequate access to food is poverty. This is as a result of the failure of the economic system to generate sufficient income enough to meet the household basic need and distribute it broadly.

Data for this research was obtained from secondary sources purposefully from five Nigerian banks and five manufacturing firms that have consistently provided sections for sustainable reporting in their annual reports. Thus, the annual report and account of selected companies as well as their Sustainability reports were examined. The study adopted a qualitative method of data analysis. Content and thematic analyses were used to analyses the qualitative data with the aid of NVivo software. The findings revealed that sustainable development from the perspective of a triple bottom line (economic, social and environmental) is very appropriate and useful as all sampled firms provided information on the global reporting initiative index. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that organizations that want to succeed in the highly competitive 21st century business environment must integrate and balance economic, social and environmental bottom lines in their activities and report all its efforts in achieving these to its stakeholders. The study recommends that organizations should intensify efforts in having comprehensive sustainable reports outside the annual reports which is in line with global best practices.

Survey research design was used in the study. Data for this research was obtained from Primary sources through the aid of a structured questionnaire. Krejche and Morgan formular were used to estimate the sample size. 384 copies of questionnaires were administered to employees of the selected companies out of which only 305 copies were found to be useful for data analysis. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics of partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM). The hypothesis was tested at 0.05 alpha levels. Findings revealed that social responsibility and sustainability are the variable that best predicts the market performance with the following values (β =.372, t= 3.859, p=0.000). The next vital predictor in order of importance is the economic responsibility and sustainability (β = .244, t= 3.545, p= .000) and finally, environmental responsibility and sustainability (β = .169, t= 2.495, p= .013) is significantly related to market performance. Based on the findings, the study concluded that CSR philosophy facilitates the unlocking of the human capital which makes significant contribution to the success of an organization. The study recommends that organizations should embrace the spirit of being socially responsible; because by involving in CSR, it will add to the goodwill of their companies, thereby, increasing their financial worth and eventually boosting their image to gain an edge through increasing patronage for their services.

In fact it is the number one goal of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Poverty in Islam is defined as a state whereby an individual fails to fulfill any of the five basic human requirements of life (Religion, Physical self, Knowledge, Offspring and Wealth). In line with brotherhood concept which is emphasized in Islam, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in 9AH received obligation on Muslims to pay zakat on wealth. The institution of zakat is a unique instrument and mechanism in Islam that is used to combat poverty. This paper intends to explore and share through guidance from relevant verses of the Quran and Hadith of the Holy Prophet to examine the role of zakat as an institution in tackling poverty. Thus, this paper provides an in depth, state of the art knowledge and insights that are inspired by prophetic worldviews on how Islam addresses poverty with the aid of zakat and it concludes that the institutionalization of zakat as an alternative strategy would provides the foundations for sustainable development and good life (hayat tayibah).
