The big-sized shipyard utilizes the construction for the virtual shipyard, with Research and Design (R&D) as the kernel, via Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) integrating interior resources in the shipyard, and then through Supply Chain Management (SCM) coordinating the up- and down-streams’ suppliers, then to step forward business-to-business (B2B). Within the big-sized shipyard’s production procedure, the scheduling and quality of the outfitting often influence the entire scheduling and construction of the ships. Therefore how to supply the timely, appropriate and correct outfitting, save us communication time and allows us to cooperate with the suppliers, and increase the efficiency, reduce the cost, is the most important topic. To avoid this situation, a technology to track continuously moving Radio-Frequency IDentification (RFID) tags was developed to prevent packing-line coils from being falsely identified. The additional transaction information in the RFID tags also enhances the cranes’ positioning capability while transporting the coils in the stock house. An RFID multi-gate shipping portal technology was also developed that can simultaneously check the coils’ IDs on different trailers, and therefore increase the coil shipping efficiency. This paper presents the accomplishment of the production and logistics automation by applying the RFID technologies to the coil packing and shipping processes.

Abstract An approach for universal modeling and tracker design for input-constrained unknown nonl... more Abstract An approach for universal modeling and tracker design for input-constrained unknown nonlinear input time-delay stochastic sampled-data systems is newly proposed in this paper. First, the improved observer/Kalman filter identification (OKID) method, which uses the current output measurement to estimate the current state, is newly proposed in this paper and it is shown that it outperforms the traditional OKID method. In addition, it is shown that the newly proposed current output-based Kalman filter is a well-performed output estimator in the extreme case, in which it is not a filter anymore, becoming a universal way of formulating an artificial system model of a real physical process without disturbing its normal operation. Consequently, the proposed artificial system model has the following advantages: (i) It is capable of quantifying the stochastic and deterministic characteristics of the dynamical system of interest; (ii) It is capable of carrying out the analyses of various control-design methodologies to achieve the performance specifications in the pre-study phase; and (iii) It is capable of estimating missing and/or abnormal output measurements during the testing and/or practical operating phases. Furthermore, an alternative re-designed current output-based observer is newly proposed in this paper, in order to develop a modified observer-based model predictive control (MPC) with input constraints to improve the performance of the unknown nonlinear time-delay stochastic system. When the proposed artificial system model is used together with the proposed constrained MPC, a long-time prediction of future input–output sets in a closed-loop setting can be carried out. Finally, the operation of a temperature controlled real nonlinear input time-delay blast furnace process is presented as a case study in this paper, to show the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism.

Through the off-line observer/Kalman filter identification method, one has a good initial guess of modified NARMAX model to reduce the on-line system identification process time. Then, based on the modified NARMAX-based system identification, a corresponding adaptive digital control scheme is presented for the unknown continuous-time nonlinear system, with an input-output direct transmission term, which also has measurement and system noises and inaccessible system states. Besides, an effective state space self-turner with fault tolerance scheme is presented for the unknown multivariable stochastic system. A quantitative criterion is suggested by comparing the innovation process error estimated by the Kalman filter estimation algorithm, so that a weighting matrix resetting technique by adjusting and resetting the covariance matrices of parameter estimate obtained by the Kalman filter estimation algorithm is utilized to achieve the parameter estimation for faulty system recovery. Consequently, the proposed method can effectively cope with partially abrupt and/or gradual system faults and input failures by the fault detection.

The interface is a crucial factor on the very early stage of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) development. The accomplishment of the interface aims to solve the important issues in the message transactions among distributed systems and tackle the problems of existing data manipulation and repetitive data storage. Besides using object-oriented technology, the holonic functions of Interface is implemented with the latest IT technologies, such as Web Services, WCF, C# and so on. This paper also describes an ameliorated interface framework that can interoperate and integrate heterogeneous engineering application systems.

While deadlines become shorter and shorter, the complexity of modern commercial vessels increases steadily; therefore, it is imperative for the marine industry to integrate diverse engineering information systems. 3D models are repetitiously constructed mainly because specified requirements on different design stages are time-consuming. In order to supersede costly point-to-point integration or system-specific integration that have been used, much attention has been paid to develop the advanced and open platform to not only codevelop parts by designers at different geographical locations, coordinate dissimilar applications and application components, but facilitate connectivity and the overall communication process to provide the end user with integrated and consistent data. This paper describes the object-oriented data-sharing collaborative design support system (DSS). DSS is proposed to speed up the construction of 3D models by the Internet technologies to translate product data and further be capable of providing reasonable model configurations of XML descriptions and sharing Web Services on the Internet to comply with shipyards' specific strategies.
