A series benzoimidazole-based dendritric complexes of iridium dendrimers containing Fréchet-type ... more A series benzoimidazole-based dendritric complexes of iridium dendrimers containing Fréchet-type dendrons with peripheral fluorenyl surface groups have been synthesized. These iridium dendrimers are green-emitting with high phosphorescence quantum yield, and can be spin-coated as films of good quality. From cyclic voltammograms (CV), high onset potentials at 1.42-1.58 V due to the peripheral fluorene group were observed. Device from a second generation dendrimer 17 with structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/CBP: 20 wt% 17/TPBI/ LiF/Al (PEDOT:PSS = poly(ethylene dioxythiophene): polystyrenesulfonate and CBP = bis(Ncarbazolyl)biphenyl) has the best performance: maximum external quantum efficiency of 13.58% and maximum current efficiency of 45.7 cd/A. Space-charge-limited current (SCLC) flow technique was used to measure the mobility of charge carriers in the blend films of the compounds in CBP. Blend films of higher generation dendrimers have lower hole mobility, albeit with higher device efficiencies.

The relative intensity of phosphorescence and fluorescence were affected by the energy transfer and back transfer efficiencies between the polymer backbones and the iridium units as evidenced by solid state PL and EL spectra. PLED devices with a configuration of ITO/PEDOT: PSS (70 nm)/Ir-copolymers (P3–P10) or Ir-doped copolymers (P1–P2 doped with Ir-complex 4) (60–80 nm)/TPBI (40 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (120 nm) were fabricated, where electroluminescence (EL) efficiencies depended on the chemical constituents and the triplet energies of the copolymers. PLED devices based on Ir-containing copolymerP8 or copolymerP2 doped with 5 mol% Ir-complex 4 exhibited white-light emissions with EL properties of ηext, max = 0.93%, ηc,max = 1.88 cd A−1, and Lmax = 1960 cd m−2 from the former (P8), and ηext, max = 4.09%, ηc,max = 10.94 cd A−1, and Lmax = 4870 cd m−2 from the latter (P2 doped with Ir-complex 4), respectively. The CIE coordinates, color-rendering index (CRI) and correlated color temperature (CCT) of the two PLED devices were (0.33, 0.30) at 13 V, 74 and 5966 K for the former, and (0.35, 0.32) at 15 V, 82 and 6147 K for the latter, respectively.

Solution processed organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) usually have high on/off ratios but s... more Solution processed organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) usually have high on/off ratios but suffer from low mobilities, while transistors based on graphene usually exhibit very high mobilities but low on/off ratios. We demonstrate a straightforward route to solve the challenging problem of enhancing the effective mobility in OFETs while keeping the on/off ratio sufficiently high. We achieve this by developing hybrid FETs incorporating both organic semiconductors and graphene. Compared against OFETs with only pure organic semiconductors, our hybrid FETs exhibit up to 20 times higher effective mobilities, and yet they keep the on/off ratios comparable or better. P3HT/graphene hybrid FETs exhibit mobility as high as 0.17 cm 2 V À1 s À1 , and PQT-12/graphene hybrid FETs show effective mobility up to 0.6 cm 2 V À1 s À1 . We expect that incorporating graphene is a general route to enhance the performance of OFETs, providing a low-cost avenue for enhancing OFET performance.

Research paper thumbnail of Biaryl-Based Macrocyclic and Polymeric Chiral (Salophen)Ni(II) Complexes:  Synthesis and Spectroscopic Study

It was found that these polysalophens contain nonplanar coordination of Ni(II) units that are paramagnetic. This is different from the previously reported (salophen)Ni(II) complexes which are square planar and diamagnetic. The nonplanar (salophen)Ni(II) units make the new polymeric Ni(II) complexes different from the helical structure proposed for chiral biaryl-based polymers containing square-planar (salophen)Ni(II) units. The copolymerization of the chiral binaphthyl monomer with the achiral biphenyl monomer demonstrates that the chirality of the binaphthyl unit is not propagated along the biphenyl polymer chain.

Unlike traditional dual Src/Abl inhibitors targeting the active enzyme conformation, these inhibitors bind to the inactive, DFG-out conformation of both kinases. Extensive SAR studies led to the discovery of potent and orally bioavailable inhibitors, some of which demonstrated in vivo efficacy. Once-daily oral administration of inhibitor 9i (AP24226) significantly prolonged the survival of mice injected intravenously with wild type Bcr-Abl expressing Ba/F3 cells at a dose of 10 mg/kg. In a separate model, oral administration of 9i to mice bearing subcutaneous xenografts of Src Y527F expressing NIH 3T3 cells elicited dose-dependent tumor shrinkage with complete tumor regression observed at the highest dose. Notably, several inhibitors (e.g., 14a, AP24163) exhibited modest cellular potency (IC50 = 300-400 nM) against the Bcr-Abl mutant T315I, a variant resistant to all currently marketed therapies for chronic myeloid leukemia.
