This manual assists team members in discovering their team culture so they understand how it affects their performance and the quality of services they provide, and so they can decide if they would like to modify team process and performance. The manual examines what team culture is, how team culture affects assessment and intervention, frameworks for exploring team culture, observational and interviewing procedures to use along with self-evaluation procedures to discover a team's culture, characteristics of effective teams, and strategies for modifying team culture. The manual is a training module of Project TIE (Teams in Early Intervention), which was conceptualized to meet the need for:

If services are to be truly accessible and equitable, they must be designed to account for cultural variations in beliefs, needs, and desires of PWCD and their families. This article describes the health conditions that put indigenous populations at particular risk for communicative disorders and gives examples of ways in which speech-language pathologists (SLPs) have addressed the recommendations of the World Report on Disability when working with PWCD in indigenous communities in Minority World countries.

Proficient readers must be able to 'read between the lines', making relevant inferences to interpret, analyze, and synthesize information in texts; and 'read across the lines', applying these critical reading processes to multiple texts for purposes of problem-raising and problem-solving. This article will review literature on the cognitive and linguistic skills necessary for reading along the lines in a variety of scripts; the nature of the language and cognitive skills essential for the text comprehension necessary for reading between and across the lines, and the ways that culture and language influence text comprehension.
