The sample of the study consisted of organizations that spent 10% or more of its annual budget on training and those whose training budget is less than 10% of the organization's annual budget. A total of 620 questionnaires were distributed to employees working in various organizations out of which 580 representing 93.5% were retrieved. The sample was drawn using convenience sampling. The data collection instrument was mainly questionnaires supported by the use of Regression models for analysis to be made. Analyzing multiple models, it was discovered that organizations training investment plays a considerable indirect and direct effect with partial mediation between organizations acquired skills, knowledge, abilities and shareholders wealth. Shareholders should allow their agents to invest part of their holdings to develop the human capital of the organization but this should be done with caution since shareholders returns do not depend much on how much organizations spend in developing its human resource capital.

This study seeks to ascertain whether microfinance products such as loans, savings, insurance, and education effects small business growth in Ghana. The study uses descriptive and inferential statistics on responses of 248 small business owners for data analysis. Using a multiple linear regression analysis, the study found that all the microfinance product or services positively affects small business growth, and the greatest influence is micro loans. This study contributes massively to exact literature to the growth of microfinance institutions (MFIs) and small businesses in emerging economy, Ghana. The study can assist MFIs to assess the effectiveness of their product or services, and can also serves as a guide to an effective utilization of available scarce resources leading to growth of small business...

It argues that while microfinance has developed some innovative management and business strategies, its impact on poverty reduction remains in doubt. The instrument for data collection is structured questionnaire. The study was carried out in Ashanti Region of Ghana. Using a sample size of 380 clients from various microfinance institutions (MFIs) within the research area and a survey with descriptive analysis, the result reveals among others that the clients enjoy opportunities for savings which enable them to increase their income levels by way of using their savings to acquire basic necessities of tools, equipment and materials and are able to create employment and improve their standard of living. Thus, microfinance, however, certainly plays an important role in providing safety-net and consumption smoothening. The study therefore recommends...

This paper tests the portability of Altman’s (2000) Z-score model in predicting corporate failure... more This paper tests the portability of Altman’s (2000) Z-score model in predicting corporate failure of listed firms in an emerging market, Ghana. The study applies the model on financial statements of fifteen (15) firms listed on Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) for 2013 fiscal year. The empirical result shows that 66.7 percent of the listed firms were misclassified as failed firms (Type II Error) and correctly classified 33.3 percent as success firms or safe zone firms. The study concludes that the Altman (2000) financial model is not portable in Ghana due to high type II error rate and this is calling more research for the use of non-financial models in predicting corporate failure in emerging markets. The sample of the study consisted of 207 public senior high schools drawn from a population of 535. A total of 621 questionnaires were distributed to teachers working in various public senior high schools out of which 520 representing 83.74% were retrieved. The respondents that constituted the sample were drawn using convenience sampling. The researchers used Chi Square to assess the independence between financial motivation and performance of teachers which was measured using the pass rate of students at the West Africa Examination Council. From the Chi Square test statistic and analyzes of questionnaires retrieved from respondents, it was realized that there is association between financial motivation (Single Spine) and performance of teachers at public senior high schools. The study concluded by advising that for financial motivation to continue to ser...

It is necessary to view environmental problems as a system: a coherent set of solutions is required which will ensure that each step taken, whether in planning or implementation, to meet them fits in perfectly with others envisaged. It is not possible to neither compartmentalize environmental concerns nor deal with them in sectors. The difficulties are compounded by the fact that we are dealing with a set of mobile and highly dynamic components which make it necessary that long-term and flexible responses are devised (Tolba 1985). Using the experiences in the gold mining industry in Ghana as a benchmark, this paper attempts to address the potential effects of the oil exploration on our land management,...

Specifically, the study sought to examine the relationship between liquidity as measured by current ratio, quick ratio and cash ratio and firms’ financial performance as measured by return as assets, return on equity and return on capital employed and determine the interactive effects on share value of firms. Data extracted from the audited and published annual reports of twenty-one (21) firms for the period 2008 to 2019 was used for the study. The study used correlation analysis for relationship and ANCOVA modeling for interactive effects. The study found that there was a weak positive statistically significant relationship between return on assets and measures of liquidity; there was a weak positive statistically insignificant relationship between return on equity and measures of liquidity; there was a weak negative statistically ins...

In the process of exploiting these resources to meet the legitimate socioeconomic needs and aspirations of her people, however, adequate care has often not been taken to guard against the destruction of the environment. In the light of these problems caused by improper waste management there is much cause for concern, particularly, in the mining concentrated areas in Ghana. The main objective of this paper, therefore, is to examine and explain the impact of poor management of wastes from mining on the environment. In view of this, it has been suggested that the government of Ghana and all the agencies concerned with environmental safety be actively involved in enforcing and ensuring that the mining companies in the country manage their wastes in an environmentally friendly manner. In addition, if the mining operators fail to effectively manage their wastes in an environmentally friendly manner and therefore affect the environment, they must also be made to pay part of the waste management cost. Perhaps, this can serve as a yardstick and a basis for effective monitoring of the activities of the mining firms to ensure sufficient air, soil and water quality in the country.

In fulfillment of personal and other interests, people usually move from one place to another in search of satisfactory living conditions. The difference between the wages of rural and urban centers has been seen as one of the main factors affecting the migration. Iversen (2006) argued that in India, the wage parameter was influenced by social networks which facilitated the relocation of rural active population into the urban industrial enclaves to work as low paid personnel in the factories. This paper is focused on the socio-economic analysis on skilled labour migration from the northern parts of Ghana into the Ashanti Region of Ghana and its impact on the region. In order to achieve this goal, the researcher came up with research design that assisted him to identify the impact as well as the solutions to the migration process. In this study, the analysis was done on the primary data derived from the samples of the skilled personnel who move from the northern parts of the country into the Ashanti region of Ghana. It was revealed from the study that skilled labour migration have positive impacts in the socio-economic development of the northern part o

There is now a burgeoning literature that examines sustainable development in the context of minerals and mining, most of which is concerned with sustainability at global and national scales. What these numerous perspectives on sustainable mineral extraction, minerals and metals recycling, environmental management, and social performance, is how sustainable development applies to mining companies the and what steps a mine must take in order to improve the sustainability of operations. Since mining processes have the potential to impact a diverse group of environmental entities, and are of interest to a wide range of stakeholder groups, there is ample opportunity for the industry to operate more sustainably. Specifically, with improved planning, implementation of sound environmental management tools and cleaner technologies, extended social responsibility to stakeholder groups, the formation of training, a mine can improve performance in both the environmental and socioeconomic arenas, and thus contribute enormously to sustainable development at the mine level.

industry, competency-based training (CBT) is gaining popularity in Ghana’s universities as a way of producing
business-oriented and well-grounded graduates for industry who are ready to make use of knowledge acquired in
university education to establish businesses that will help reduce unemployment in the country as well as working
effectively in the nation’s industry and service sectors. With CBT yet to be introduced in most Ghanaian tertiary
institutions, information about academics’ perception and willingness to adopt the methodology is crucial. This
study examined the perception and adoption of CBT by academics in Ghana using cross-sectional data collected
from 300 faculty members of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) using a structured
questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, 5-point Likert scale, perception index, and the logit model were the methods of
analysis employed.
Results: The results of the survey showed that the overall perception index was 0.49, indicating that generally
faculty members of KNUST agreed and had a positive perception of the potential of CBT in instilling in students
employable skills. The logit results also showed that the probability of adoption of CBT is positively influenced by
participation in CBT workshops, effective supervision of faculty members by university authorities, availability of
teaching aids, and availability of incentives. Conversely, adoption was found to be negatively influenced by
teaching load and number of undergraduate students per class.
Conclusions: We conclude that provision of appropriate teaching and learning resources that complement
adoption of CBT, incentives, and competency-based education training for academics by university authorities and
stakeholders in Ghana’s tertiary education will enhance the adoption of CBT methodologies.
