The aim of the study was to analyse data on the assortment and number of doses in the batches of vaccines for poultry authorized on the Polish market in 2010. These data, compared with the total output of doses in the same batches of IVMPs manufactured worldwide, revealed trends in the application of poultry vaccines in Poland. The results of the survey indicate that poultry IVMPs were the most important immunologicals on the Polish market in terms of variety and the numbers of doses. The dominant position of poultry IVMPs against viral diseases on the Polish market reflected the global trend. They accounted for 97.98% of all poultry IVMPs, followed by anti-bacterial (1.55%) and anti-parasitic IVMPs (0.47%). The order of the five most popular poultry IVMPs was the same on the Polish mar...

The aim of our study was to determine concentrations of PCDD/Fs, DL- and NDL-PCBs in ostrich eggs and meat available on the Polish market in order to obtain baseline information on the current status of these pollutants in comparison to poultry products. Obtained data were compared to the binding EU limits set for chicken eggs and meat. The levels of individual PCDD/Fs and PCBs congeners varied considerably. The percentage share of total WHO-TEQ content indicates the dominant role of PCDD/Fs. High concentrations of PCDD/F/DL-PCBs, in the range of 0.85-74.48 pg WHO-TEQ g(-1) fat were found in ostrich eggs, which exceeds the maximum level permitted for chicken eggs by a factor of up to 15. Eight of the eleven egg samples exceeded the action level for hen eggs. Although the ostrich meat concentrations of PCDD/Fs do not exceed the limit establishe...

A reliable and selective liquid chromatography–ultraviolet detection method for determination of ... more A reliable and selective liquid chromatography–ultraviolet detection method for determination of tylosin has been developed. The extraction of analyte from feedingstuffs was performed with solution of citric buffer and methanol. The extracts were cleaned up by solid phase extraction procedure using a octadecyl cartridge. Samples were brought up to dryness and dissolved in phosphate buffer. The analysis was carried out on C18 analytical column with UV detection at λ = 282 nm. The analytical procedure has been successfully adopted and validated for quantitative determination of tylosin A in feedingstuff samples. The validation included determination of specificity, linearity, repeatability, and within-laboratory reproducibility. Mean recovery for spiked samples was 84.7% within the working range of 5–1,000 mg/kg. The inter-day relative standard deviation was below 6.6 %. The results of validation procedure proved that presented method is efficient, precise, and useful for routine anal...

Analysis of water amount is often a critical parameter, which determines the quality of product, its appearance as well as the expiration date. The aim of the study was to validate a coulometric Karl Fisher method for practical use in the national monitoring of veterinary vaccines market. Immunological veterinary medicinal product (ivmp) for three different animal species - cats, dogs and rabbits - were used. Automated coulometric analysis in chamber without diaphragm was used, as well as a solution for titration, which was a mixture of diethanolamine, imidazole, methanol and sulfur dioxide. The weight of a single sample was 15-100 mg. The most important concern was optimization of the way of transferring a vaccine sample into titration cell, so that atmospheric moisture would not affect baseline drift and repeatability of the results. Humidity level in lyophilized biopharmaceutical...

The method comprises the extraction of analytes from the matrix with a mixture of methanol and acetonitrile, drying of the extract, and its dissolution in phosphate buffer. The analysis was performed with a gradient programme of the mobile phase composed of acetonitrile and buffer (pH = 7.3) on a Zorbax Eclipse Plus C18 (150 × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) analytical column with UV (λ = 220 nm) detection. The analytical procedure has been successfully adopted and validated for quantitative determination of florfenicol and thiamphenicol in feed samples. Sensitivity, specificity, linearity, repeatability, and intralaboratory reproducibility were included in the validation. The mean recovery of amphenicols was 93.5% within the working range of 50-4000 mg/kg. Simultaneous determination of chloramphenicol, which is banned in the feed, was also included within the ...

A fast and reliable method of liquid chromatography and ultraviolet detection of sulfaguanidine, ... more A fast and reliable method of liquid chromatography and ultraviolet detection of sulfaguanidine, sulfadiazine, sulfamethazine, sulfamethizole, and sulfamethoxazole in feedingstuffs was described. The method involves THE procedure of preparation of spiked samples, and extraction of sulphonamides from the matrix using a mixture of methanol and acetonitrile, followed by drying the extract and dissolving it in a phosphate buffer. The analysis uses octadecyl (C18) analytical column with UV detection at λ = 260 nm and a gradient programme of mobile phase composition. The analytical procedure has been successfully adopted and validated for quantitative determination of the sulfonamides in feedingstuff samples. Validation included sensitivity, specificity, linearity, repeatability, and intra-laboratory reproducibility. The mean recovery of sulfonamides was 84%, within the working range of 200-2000 mg/kg. Direct, simple sample preparation and HPLC-UV analysis allow the method to be successfu...
