BACKGROUND Components of professional practice models have not been consistently analyzed, suggesting a need to identify their concepts. Evidence-based guidelines may be unavailable to assist in the creation and revision of models. METHODS A checklist was used to analyze 56 Web-based NPPMs of Magnet-designated nursing departments. RESULTS Checklist items showed a match with parent organizations, an emphasis on patient- or family-centered care, a commitment to quality nursing services, and nursing's professional distinctiveness. Responses indicated engagement in shared governance and support of nursing staff's professional development. The concepts of health, care of sick and well people, and scope of nursing services were inconsistently addressed and call for further research. CONCLUSION Nurse leaders should examine concepts in...

The NTGP-EP has created a forum for dialogue among nurse scholars interested in advancing nursing theory to promote health and wellbecoming. The purpose of this paper is to share the important work of the NTGP-EP and its history, contributions, and accomplishments, and to propose a member-driven agenda to re-envision our preferred future and the impact of the use of nursing theory to guide nursing education, research, practice, and policy.

They communicate and shape student and faculty respon-sibilities. Syllabi function to orient new faculty to the cultural norms of nursing programs, specify student learning outcomes, connect course outcomes to the program level, and provide evidence for accreditor organizations of curricular quality and achievement of standards. A committee on assessment and evaluation of a university’s nursing programs reviewed examples of syllabi and identified needed revisions. Members examined literature on syllabus construction and alignment with student learning outcomes along with faculty concerns about syllabi. Consequently, the nursing programs’ activities influenced a university’s review and standardization of syllabi in the context of nursing accreditation self-study and university regional accreditation standards. The guidelines were oriented in academy dialogue on nursing as caring and robotic caring. Articles written for a special topics issue for the International Journal for Human Caring addressed robots in healthcare systems and perspectives on robots as providers of caring interventions. Themes in the articles informed the guidelines. The guidelines might incentivize faculty to integrate humanoid caring robots, a technology exemplar, into nursing curricula.

Caring as Unending Expression of Nursing (CUEN) emerged to describe clinical nursing practice as ... more Caring as Unending Expression of Nursing (CUEN) emerged to describe clinical nursing practice as basis to knowledge development of the discipline. This is grounded in the theory of Nursing as Caring. Concepts, theories and statements are derived-synthesized and critically analyzed using Explanatory multivariate regression tree (MRT) as an approach to develop the new theory. Based from analyses, CUEN Theory sees the person as dignified being, who lives and grows in caring environment from moment-tomoment. The person is whole and complete as he embodies the caring attitude by virtue of his humanness. The basic premise of CUEN is that all human beings are caring in nature; and that anybody showing and doing expressions of unending care is considered a nurse because to be human is to be called to live one's innate caring nature. The caring according to this theory is intentional expression of nursing care to the nursed, who is recognized as person, living, growing in caring environment. CUEN assumed that Personhood is a process of living grounded in caring and Personhood is enhanced through nurturing relationships by caring for others. The practice of CUEN becomes evident when the nurse acknowledges herself as tool for caring; communicates properly in a manner so that it transpired in the nursing situation; offers option so patient makes choices without coercion or force; and conjointly advanced to materialize the identified options. The complete execution of the recognized intervention will come to play thus creating nursing situation. It is recommended that CUEN be applied to practice for validation in the light of the different philosophical bases.

Quantitative studies were located from electronic databases, with a search strategy that focused on titles, key words, index terms, abstracts, and full text published documents on nurse caring or nursing staff caring, patient satisfaction, and hospitalized adults. The initial search identified 2,709 references. Fifty-two full text citations remained for the next step of critical appraisal; 16 documents were included in the final review. Most of the citations were Level VI in a hierarchy of evidence with low quality. Nurse caring protocols need to be developed and linked causally to the outcome of patient satisfaction with hospitalization.

A 21-year review of errors and near-miss reports from a national medication error-reporting program found that infusion-associated medication errors resulted in the identification of numerous best practices that support patient safety. A content analysis revealed that most errors involved improper dosage, mistaken drug choice, knowledge-based mistakes, skill-based slips, and memory lapses. The multifaceted nature of administering medications via infusions was highlighted. Opportunities for improvements include best practices such as developing learning cultures and reinforcing the independent double-check process on medications. Staff will likely benefit from education on specific medications, prescription details, and smart pump technology.

Hospitalized adult patients (N ¼ 303) completed the instrument. Investigators reduced the number of items on the English version. Item means, frequencies, written comments by patients, Cronbach's alpha coefficients, and initial principal components analysis (PCA) shaped revisions. A second PCA was calculated on 16 items; one component resulted, explaining 58.01% of the total variance. Contrasted groups and factorial validity and internal consistency reliability were established. Future research should test diverse samples on the 16 using contrasted groups, discriminant and criterion-related validity and test-retest reliability.

Data sources consisted of literature from databases, using the search terms of caring encounter, caring moment, nurse, nursing, patient, patient-centered care, relationship, and communication, and related theories and personal collections of investigators. Using thematic analysis, investigators reviewed citations for units of text with similar meanings indicating structures of a caring moment. Data synthesis produced the structure of the caring moment presented as a narrative. Results provide nursing faculty an opportunity to examine core elements of the caring moment with students.

The purpose of this triangulated, descriptive study was to describe the clinical transition experience of senior baccalaureate nursing students during pregraduation preceptored practicums, which took place three times per week for three weeks. Data were collected from student journal entries, liaison faculty, and clinical preceptors. Thematic analysis was performed on responses students recorded on the Daily Feedback Sheet on Transition to the Graduate Nurse Role and on preceptor- and liaison faculty-documented journals. According to students, preceptors, and liaison faculty, students' knowledge and skills increased during the preceptorship, and many students became integral members of hospital unit teams. Strategies to modify the preceptorship included maintaining consistency with liaison faculty and increasing communication between preceptors and liaison faculty.

The 100-item, true-false test had content validity, because items were based on current pressure ulcer literature. Five experts judged the test for accuracy, and two experts evaluated the congruence of the teaching intervention and test. Forty-eight subjects completed the experimental condition; 54 completed the control condition. The teaching intervention had a significant effect on knowledge scores.
