METHODS 44 consecutive cases, 21 males and 23 females. The average age at surgery was 11.4 years ranging from 2 to 17 years, 20 patients underwent one-stage anterior and posterior hemivertebra resection and instrumentation. 24 patients underwent one-stage posterior hemivertebra resection and instrumentation. Long cassette standing radiographs were taken before and after surgery and at the final follow-up. The apical translation, the Cobb's angle in the coronal and sagittal plane were measured and analyzed. The medical records were reviewed and the complications were recorded. OBJECTIVE to evaluate the outcomes and complications of posterior vertebral column resection in t... more OBJECTIVE to evaluate the outcomes and complications of posterior vertebral column resection in the treatment of severe and fixed spinal deformities. METHODS from January 2008 to January 2010, 15 consecutive cases (4 males, 11 females) of severe and fixed spinal deformities managed by single posterior vertebral column resection with transpedicular instrumentation were investigated retrospectively. The diagnosis included congenital scoliosis in 10 cases, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in 1 case, congenital kyphosis in 3 cases, tuberculous kyphosis 1 case. Radiographs were measured to determine the regional coronal and sagittal curve magnitude, and the coronal and sagittal balance preoperatively, postoperatively and at the final follow-up. Focusing on the requirements of efficient quality control of digital production lines in aviation... more Focusing on the requirements of efficient quality control of digital production lines in aviation enterprises, the framework quality control system of digital production lines were studied in this paper. First, the quality date categories of digital production lines were sorted out, a multi-source quality data acquisition scheme was proposed,. Second, the importance of key quality characteristics in quality control was discussed as well as a solution to find key quality features was established. Again, a multi-channel statistical quality control framework was constructed and a detailed implementation process was proposed. Finally, a digital production line quality control prototype system was designed and developed and validated in an aviation manufacturing enterprise.

As extreme climate events, such as California’s 2012–2016 drought, become more frequent with climate change, it is imperative to understand how different native plant communities respond to drought-induced dehydration stress. Chaparral and California sage scrub (CSS), two widespread plant communities in California, face threats from droughts of increased frequency and severity. Despite chaparral and CSS plants being adapted to seasonal drought conditions, it is not known how the strategies of recovery from extreme multiyear droughts associated with changing climate differ between them. Methodology. We measured chlorophyll fluorescence and water potentials for two evergreen chaparral shrubs (Heteromeles arbutifolia and Quercus berberidifolia) and two drought deciduous CSS shrubs (Salvia leucophylla and Salvia mellifera) in the Santa Monica Mountains both during and after the extreme drought in California (between 2015 and 2017). Pivotal results. We found that the maximum electron transport rate (Jmax) varied seasonally for all species, decreasing in the dry season and recovering in the wet season. However, Jmax and the seasonal change in Jmax (ΔJmax) were larger for the CSS species than for the chaparral species, and recovery of Jmax began earlier in the year for CSS species than for chaparral species. Dark-adapted maximum photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) and both midday (ΨMD) and predawn (ΨPD) water potential for all species also followed similar seasonal patterns—higher in the wet season than in the dry season, with CSS species exhibiting the largest seasonal changes in Ψ. A strong linear relationship was found between Jmax and ΨMD for all species except Q. berberidifolia. Conclusions. Our results show that recovery from drought-induced dehydration differs between representatives of two major plant communities in California and is linked to life-history strategy: the higher sensitivity to and quicker recovery from seasonal drought for the CSS species compared with the chaparral species could be attributed to the shallower rooting depths and dehydration tolerance of the CSS species. In addition, water relations and chlorophyll fluorescence can serve as useful metrics to compare species-specific dehydration stress tolerance or avoidance strategies in the field.

Clarifying the mechanisms for the deregulation of oncogenes and tumour suppressors in CRC is vital for its diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and prevention. Hu antigen R (HuR), which is highly upregulated in CRC, functions as a pivotal oncogene to promote CRC progression. However, the underlying cause of its dysregulation is poorly understood. In CRC tissue sample pairs, HuR protein levels were measured by Western blot and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining, respectively. HuR mRNA levels were also monitored by qRT-PCR. Combining meta-analysis and microRNA (miRNA) target prediction software, we predicted miRNAs that targeted HuR. Pull-down assay, Western blot and luciferase assay were utilized to demonstrate the direct binding of miR-22 on HuR's 3'-UTR. Soil is a major contributor to the biosphere-atmosphere exchange of carbonyl sulfide (COS) and ca... more Soil is a major contributor to the biosphere-atmosphere exchange of carbonyl sulfide (COS) and carbon monoxide (CO). COS is used to improve constraints on terrestrial photosynthesis based on the link between leaf uptake of COS and of CO 2 , but this use requires the soil COS flux to be well quantified. For CO, soil is a main sink in natural environments that influences the tropospheric CO budget. We measured soil fluxes of COS, CO, and CO 2 hourly over the 2015 late growing season in a Scots pine forest in Hyytiälä, Finland. The soil acted as a net sink of COS and CO. Average uptake rates were around 3 pmol m −2 s −1 for COS, and 1 nmol m −2 s −1 for CO, respectively. Soil respiration showed seasonal dynamics controlled by soil temperature, peaking in late August and September with fluxes around 4 µmol m −2 s −1 and dropping to 1-2 µmol m −2 s −1 in October. In contrast, seasonal variations of COS and CO fluxes were weak and mainly driven by soil moisture changes through diffusion limitation. COS and CO fluxes did not appear to respond to temperature, although they both correlated well with soil respiration in specific temperature bins. We found that COS:CO 2 and CO:CO 2 flux ratios were modulated by temperature, possibly indicating shifts in active COS and CO-consuming microbial groups. Our results show that soil COS and CO uptake do not have strong variations over the late growing season in the boreal forest, and can be well described during the photosynthetically most active period. Well characterized and relatively invariant soil COS fluxes strengthen the case for using COS as a tracer for photosynthesis in this globally important biome.

to evaluate the outcome of surgical treatment for spinal deformity in patients with achondroplasi... more to evaluate the outcome of surgical treatment for spinal deformity in patients with achondroplasia. six consecutive cases of 3 males and 3 females were recruited. The average age at surgery was 18.5 years old with a range of 12 to 36 years old. All patients suffered thoracolumbar kyphosis and lumbar stenosis. Four patients had neurological deficits due to severe spinal deformity. Posterior osteotomy and decompression were performed in all cases. Long cassette supine radiographs were taken before and after surgery and at the final follow-up. Correction of kyphosis, neurological outcomes (JOA (Japanese Orthopedic Association) scores) and operative complications were recorded and analyzed. the average follow-up was 10.2 months with a range of 5 to 24 months. The average operative duration was 320 min with a mean 1300 ml of blood loss. The average number of fusion segments was 8 with a range of 5 to 10 segments. Kyphosis was corrected from 53.3° to 13.3° with a 75.0% correction rate. The average preoperative JOA score was 4.5 points and improved to 8.5 points at the final follow-up. posterior osteotomy and decompression is a preferred surgical regiment for thoracolumbar kyphosis and lumbar stenosis in patients with achondroplasia.

Monthly summary of the monitoring results of feedback and improvement in every specialist. Results: 1. Clean surgical wound prophylactic antibiotic drug utilization I ncreased from 74% to 90%. 2. Use clean surgical wounds consistent with prophylactic antibiotics & 1 day rate increased from 35%to 86%. 3. Surgery within 60 minutes before the draw knife prophylactic antibiotic usage increased from 77% to 98%. 4. Ratio greater than 4 hours operating time using a second dose of prophylactic antibiotics increased from 20% to 92%. Conclusions: After working through the implementation of the above, the monitor the results of surgical site infection rates dropped from 0.7 & in 2000 to 0.3 & in 2013 at our institution.

Ethnopharmacological relevance: Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge named Danshen in China has been used fo... more Ethnopharmacological relevance: Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge named Danshen in China has been used for hundreds of years in both China and other countries. Danshen injection made from the aqueous extract of Danshen which is widely adopted in China is one of the traditional Chinese medicine injections for preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases in most of the time. The present study was carried out on re-evaluating the safety of Danshen injection by determining toxicity after acute and sub-chronic administration in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Materials and methods: In acute toxicity study, rats (10 males and 10 females) were intravenously administered Danshen injection dose of 32 g/kg body weight, two times in one day. General behavior, adverse effects and mortality were recorded for up to 14 days post treatment. In the sub-chronic study, Danshen injection was given intravenously at the doses of 0, 1.92, 5.76, and 19.20 g/kg per day (n = 15/group each sex) for 13 weeks to rats. Animal body weight and food intakes were observed weekly. Hematological, biochemical parameters and organ weight were determined in all animals at the end of the 13-week administration and 2-week recovery. However, histological examinations were carried out in the control and high-dose groups only. Results: In acute study, the sign of struggling was observed in some animals at the moment of intravenous administration. No deaths and other signs of toxicity occurred in any of the animals tested during the 14 days of the study. In sub-chronic study, Danshen injection did not result to death, adverse effects or dose-dependent changes in food consumption, but had an effect on body weight gain. Some statistically significant differences were observed in hematological and biochemical parameters, as well as in some organ weights of both male and female rats treated with Danshen injection. In these changes, the significant decrease in triglycerides and increase in total bilirubin were considered related to treatment, indicating the lipid-modulating activity of Danshen. Histopathological examinations of the injection site showed that Danshen injection could cause dose-dependent focal inflammation. There was no abnormality of other organs noted in both gross and histopathological examinations. Conclusions: The results showed that acute or sub-chronic administration of Danshen injection was low or non-toxic in male and female rats, and the no-observed-adverse-effect-level for sub-chronic administration of Danshen injection dose was 5.76 g/kg bw/day, which was suggested that it was safe in clinical use.

There was a shift toward higher tigecycline MIC values (MIC 90 s) from 2006-2007 (0.06 μg/ml) to 2008–2010 (0.12 μg/ml). The MIC 90 s of daptomycin and linezolid remained stationary. Although pulsotypes among the isolates from the 20 hospitals varied, intrahospital spreading of several clones was identified in 13 hospitals.

Based on a single-channel laser self-mixing interferometer, we present a new simultaneous measure... more Based on a single-channel laser self-mixing interferometer, we present a new simultaneous measurement of the vibration amplitude and the rotation angle of objects that both affect the power spectrum containing two peaks of the interferometer signals. The fitted results indicate that the curve of the peak frequency versus the vibration amplitude follows a linear distribution, and the curve of the difference of the two-peak power values versus the angle follows a Gaussian distribution. A vibration amplitude with an error less than 3.0% and a rotation angle with an error less than 11.7% are calculated from the fitted results.

Conclusions: After working through the implementation of the above, the monitor the results of surgical site infection rates dropped from 0.7 & in 2000 to 0.3 & in 2013 at our institution.

Ethnopharmacological relevance: Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge named Danshen in China has been used fo... more Ethnopharmacological relevance: Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge named Danshen in China has been used for hundreds of years in both China and other countries. Danshen injection made from the aqueous extract of Danshen which is widely adopted in China is one of the traditional Chinese medicine injections for preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases in most of the time. The present study was carried out on re-evaluating the safety of Danshen injection by determining toxicity after acute and sub-chronic administration in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Materials and methods: In acute toxicity study, rats (10 males and 10 females) were intravenously administered Danshen injection dose of 32 g/kg body weight, two times in one day. General behavior, adverse effects and mortality were recorded for up to 14 days post treatment. In the sub-chronic study, Danshen injection was given intravenously at the doses of 0, 1.92, 5.76, and 19.20 g/kg per day (n = 15/group each sex) for 13 weeks to rats. Animal body weight and food intakes were observed weekly. Hematological, biochemical parameters and organ weight were determined in all animals at the end of the 13-week administration and 2-week recovery. However, histological examinations were carried out in the control and high-dose groups only. Results: In acute study, the sign of struggling was observed in some animals at the moment of intravenous administration. No deaths and other signs of toxicity occurred in any of the animals tested during the 14 days of the study. In sub-chronic study, Danshen injection did not result to death, adverse effects or dose-dependent changes in food consumption, but had an effect on body weight gain. Some statistically significant differences were observed in hematological and biochemical parameters, as well as in some organ weights of both male and female rats treated with Danshen injection. In these changes, the significant decrease in triglycerides and increase in total bilirubin were considered related to treatment, indicating the lipid-modulating activity of Danshen. Histopathological examinations of the injection site showed that Danshen injection could cause dose-dependent focal inflammation. There was no abnormality of other organs noted in both gross and histopathological examinations. Conclusions: The results showed that acute or sub-chronic administration of Danshen injection was low or non-toxic in male and female rats, and the no-observed-adverse-effect-level for sub-chronic administration of Danshen injection dose was 5.76 g/kg bw/day, which was suggested that it was safe in clinical use.

There was a shift toward higher tigecycline MIC values (MIC 90 s) from 2006-2007 (0.06 μg/ml) to 2008–2010 (0.12 μg/ml). The MIC 90 s of daptomycin and linezolid remained stationary. Although pulsotypes among the isolates from the 20 hospitals varied, intrahospital spreading of several clones was identified in 13 hospitals.

Based on a single-channel laser self-mixing interferometer, we present a new simultaneous measure... more Based on a single-channel laser self-mixing interferometer, we present a new simultaneous measurement of the vibration amplitude and the rotation angle of objects that both affect the power spectrum containing two peaks of the interferometer signals. The fitted results indicate that the curve of the peak frequency versus the vibration amplitude follows a linear distribution, and the curve of the difference of the two-peak power values versus the angle follows a Gaussian distribution. A vibration amplitude with an error less than 3.0% and a rotation angle with an error less than 11.7% are calculated from the fitted results.
