Objective To determine the chemical structure, tensile strength, porosity, and degradability of p... more Objective To determine the chemical structure, tensile strength, porosity, and degradability of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)–collagen–hydroxyapatite (HA) composite membranes for guided tissue and bone regeneration. Materials and Methods The PVA–collagen–HA composite membrane was divided into three groups: the group without irradiation, the group with 15 kGy irradiation, and 25 kGy irradiation. Each group was tested for chemical structure with Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) at a wavelength of 400 to 4,000 cm−1. Tensile strength test was tested in dry and wet conditions with the standard method of American Standard Testing Mechanical (ASTM) D638, and porosity using scanning electron microscope and analyzed using ImageJ software. There are empirical evidences of using pure coffee bean powder as an alternative medicine in treating various types of wounds. However, there is limited data on coffee-induced wound healing, especially migration of cells. Therefore, current study was conducted to investigate the role of coffee extract in cell migration, especially fibroblast which is important for wound healing.METHODS: Coffea canephora beans were prepared, extracted and added in the NIH3T3 cell culture in final concentration of 2.5% and 5%. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nanohydroxyapatite (nanoHAP) and Curcuma aeru... more The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nanohydroxyapatite (nanoHAP) and Curcuma aeruginosa (C. aeruginosa) toothpastes on tooth remineralization and antibacterial/antibiofilm activity. Remineralization was evaluated by the morphological changes in extracted human premolar teeth following toothpaste application. The antibacterial and antibiofilm activities were evaluated by agar diffusion and microdilution methods, respectively, against S. mutans. Statistical approach was utilized to formulate 20 toothpastes with different concentration of nanoHAP and C. aeruginosa. We observed that the interaction among toothpaste ingredients determined the remineralization and antibacterial/antibiofilm activities. The optimum toothpaste formula (OF1) suggested by the prediction model was shown to induce remineralization and have comparable antibacterial activity to that of the control (chlorhexidine gluconate). Furthermore, the antibiofilm activity of this formula was higher to that of the control. The result obtained indicate that these novel toothpastes have potential in decreasing caries prevalence.

The use of a composite membrane is known to increase its proliferation. This study evaluated the effect of a composite membrane (Polyvinyl Alcohol Collagen Hydroxyapatite) derived from fish scales (Lates calcarifer) in vitro. Fibroblast proliferation test was performed using 3 (4,5 dimethylthiazol 2 yl) 2,5 diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Cultured fibroblasts treated with the irradiated composite membrane (15kGy and 25kGy) compared with the untreated group as a control. The observation was done at 24, 48, and 72 hours. Tukey’s test showed no significant difference between the all irradiated groups (P 0.449), while there was a significant difference between the 24 and 48 hours group (P 0.049), as well as the 24 and 72 hours group (P 0.000). The experiment showed the average fibroblast proliferation increase in the irradiated groups compared to the control group; the average was 346.09% in 15kGy and 373.70% in 25kGy. The composite membrane (PVA Collagen HA) could increase the fibroblast growth rate of proliferation in vitro since 24 hours observation compared to the control group, and the highest growth rate was 13.58 times in 15kGy for 24 hours at 48 hours. Composite membrane indicating the potential use for Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR).

There are various commercial hemostatic agents on the market; the raw material is quite expensive. Moringa oleifera leaves are known to accelerate the wound healing process. Protease in M. oleifera functions as a coagulant in wastewater treatment and food industry, research on protease as a blood coagulant is still limited. This study aims to examine the effect of M. oleifera leaves extract in the blood coagulation process. The experiments assessed into five groups: positive control, negative control, M. oleifera leaves extract at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 100%. Prothrombin Time (PT) test used to measure blood coagulation duration of human blood plasma. M. oleifera leaves extract can accelerate the human blood coagulation process compared to the positive control; 1.64 times shorter in 100% concentrate, 1.27 times shorter in 50% concentrate, and 1.08 times shorter in 25% concentrate. The shortest blood coagulation time occurred in M. oleifera leaves extract at 100% concentration with the blood coagulation time was 189.50 ± 19.77 seconds; 1.64 times shorter than the positive control, which was 310.50 ± 28.3 seconds; indicating its potential use for local hemostatic agent.

Kunjungan ke dokter gigi selama pandemi disarankan untuk kasus-kasus darurat seperti infeksi. Edukasi pada masyarakat diperlukan untuk menjaga kesehatan dan mencegah infeksi pada rongga mulut. Bahan alam seperti larutan air garam memiliki efek antiseptik dan rebusan daun sirih memiliki efek bakterisid, antioksidan dan antijamur sehingga dapat digunakan untuk menjaga kesehatan dan mengatasi infeksi ringan rongga mulut. PkM ini bertujuan untuk pemberdayaan masyarakat dengan memberikan pendidikan dan latihan menjaga kesehatan dan mencegah infeksi rongga mulut dengan cara menyikat gigi yang benar, penggunaan obat kumur larutan air garam dan rebusan daun sirih. Kunjungan ke dokter gigi selama pandemi disarankan untuk kasus-kasus darurat seperti infeksi. Edukasi pada masyarakat diperlukan untuk menjaga kesehatan dan mencegah infeksi pada rongga mulut. Bahan alam seperti larutan air garam memiliki efek antiseptik dan rebusan daun sirih memiliki efek bakterisid, antioksidan dan antijamur sehingga dapat digunakan untuk menjaga kesehatan dan mengatasi infeksi ringan rongga mulut. PkM ini bertujuan untuk pemberdayaan masyarakat dengan memberikan pendidikan dan latihan menjaga kesehatan dan mencegah infeksi rongga mulut dengan cara menyikat gigi yang benar, penggunaan obat kumur larutan air garam dan rebusan daun sirih. Kegiatan diikuti oleh 31 anggota komunitas Pemuda Pancasila sebagai kader di Kabupaten Bogor yang terdiri dari pelajar SMA/sederajat, D4 dan S1 dengan pekerjaan wirausaha, wiraswasta dan karyawan.
