The selection of the transducer is important and must be suitable to the application design. Consideration on the natural limitation of ultrasonic wave is also noted as the higher the frequency of the ultrasonic transducer, the better the sensitivity but lower penetration depth. 16-pairs of these ultrasonic sensors are installed and fixed inside a sensor jig which is designed to hold all the sensors while providing support for optimum angle sensor placement. The sensor jig is also mounted on the circumference of a vertical column which will be used as the investigated process vessel. The developments presented also include the non-invasive fabrication techniques, the electronic measurement circuits, image reconstruction technique, and finally on the imaging results of the proposed system.

Using the acoustic impedance, calculations are done to estimate the propagated ultrasound signal based on its reflection and transmission percentage. The ultrasound wave propagation simulations are then further studied using a modeling software to simulate and visualize the wave interactions between different boundaries. Experiments done with real hardware have shown correlation with the numerical and simulation studies.

The primary focus of the review is to highlight the differences occurred in process tomography in using metallic and non-metallic product especially involving the steel pipes which includes the differences in sensor arrangements (ERT, ECT, EIT), issues that arises in the use of metal and steel product besides in the metal production itself.

This paper presents the criteria and previous functional specification involving the development of MIT, focusing in conductivity imaging. Various ways have been implemented from a simple electronic configuration of the front-end sensory circuit, data acquisition system, reconstruction algorithm and graphical user interfacing (GUI) tools. Induction sensors are paramount as it does provide the signal source for time varying magnetic field to the coils. The advantages and limitations of MIT are also presented. Many more advancement can be expected to enhance the lack of MIT especially in spatial resolution and dynamic response of the sensor.

Derived from the Lambert–Beer law, the Mie theory forms the theoretical basis for optical sensor. It states that the intensity of light transmitted through a dilute gas–solids mixture should be exponentially related to the solids concentration in the light beam. In this context,

The research done is focusing on the design considerations for the sensory unit which is also regarded as the front-end system. This part is an important concern for researchers in the field of ultrasonic, particularly for process tomography. Ultrasonic transducers are very sensitive piezo-mechanical component and as such its installation to complete the front-end system have to be properly configured. Many considerations and parameters that are well planned will promise significant impact on the sensor readings. Measurement errors can occur due to many aspects, thus this research aims to minimize such errors to be useful for further development in ultrasonic tomography system design.

The measurement system consisted of two orthogonal arrays, each having ten parallel views, resulting in a total of twenty sensors. The measurement section is divided into hundred equi-sized pixels. The forward problem is modelled by allocating an optical attenuation coefficient to each pixel. The attenuation of incident collimated light beams is then modelled using the Lambert-Beer law. The inverse problem is defined and the transpose of the sensitivity matrix is used to obtain an estimate of the attenuation coefficients in each pixel. The iterative method is investigated as a means of improving reconstructed image quality.

Excessively high particle velocity will cause high energy consumption, severe pipeline wear and particle degradation. This paper demonstrates a method of measuring velocity profile using the orthogonal and rectilinear sensors. Several experiments have been conducted to measure the velocity using those sensors and the results will be described at the end of the paper.
