Children's PA habits are formed within environmental and social contexts in which parents play a fundamental role. Most studies that evaluate parental factors are Western and use single or unidimensional measures. There are few Asian studies, especially of young children, on this topic. Hence, we developed a culturally sensitive and multidimensional scale to determine how parents in Taiwan can effectively promote children's PA. We based our scale on the Activity Support Scale (ACTS) and processed it using a World Health Organization (WHO) protocol. We recruited 428 parents of school-aged children and used exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to test its content validity. We then distributed the verified scale to a new group of 615 parents for criteria-related validation using multivariate logistic regression. We finally developed a multidimensional scale comprised of three major factors of parental support for children's PA: (1) modeling, (2) logistic support-the first two are based on the ACTS-and (3) parental regulation, a newly found factor. This scale provides a culturally sensitive measure of parental influence on children's physical activity. Keywords Child health • Modeling • Parental regulation • Physical activity • Activity Support Scale Appropriate levels of physical activity (PA) help children develop a healthy musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, and neuromuscular awareness, which protects them against chronic diseases (CDC [Centers for Disease Control], 2010; WHO [World Health Organization], 2012), overweight, and obesity in childhood (Steinbeck, 2001). In addition to promoting these positive physical health outcomes, PA is critical for children to develop academic capabilities (e.g., writing), self-perceived competence (athletic and academic) (Chomitz,

A prospective study design was used. Participants were 1,283 hospital nurses with a purposive sampling in Taiwan. The self-reported questionnaire consisted of three questionnaires: the Chinese version of the Quality of Nursing Work Life scale, an intention-to-leave profession questionnaire, and a demographic questionnaire. Records of nurses leaving the profession were surveyed 1 year later. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. As many as 720 nurses (56.1%) had tendencies to leave their profession. However, only 31 nurses (2.5%) left their profession 1 year later. Nurses' intention to leave the profession mediated the relationship between the milieu of respect and autonomy, quality of work life, and nurses leaving the profession. The milieu of respect and autonomy describing the quality of work life predicts ...

However, so far in Taiwan, no measure assesses the health care quality of Occupational Therapy services, leading serious impact on the promotion of occupational therapy quality. The purpose of the present study was to elaborate a generic methodology for developing the domains and items of Patient’s Review on Occupational Therapy for Stroke patients questionnaire (PROTS) for further psychometric testing. The procedure included 3 steps: (a) reviewing related literature and carrying out clinical interviews to develop preliminary domains and items; (b) consulting with the expert group to establish content validity of the PROTS; (c) conducting cognitive interviews with stroke patients or their main caregivers to establish the face validity of the PROTS. Finally, the PROTS pre-testing version was consisted of 102 items for 8 domains: Staff ’s attitude (14 items), Staff ’s ability (31 items), Information (8...

However, comprehensive assessment of ADL functions should include two other constructs: self-perceived difficulty and ability. Objective: The aims of this study were to develop two BI-based Supplementary Scales (BI-SS), namely, the Self-perceived Difficulty Scale and the Ability Scale, and to examine the construct validity of the BI-SS in patients with stroke. Method: The BI-SS was first developed by consultation with experts and then tested on patients to confirm the clarity and feasibility of administration. A total of 306 participants participated in the construct validity study. Construct validity was investigated using Mokken scale analysis and analyzing associations between scales. The agreement between each pair of the scales' scores was further examined. Results: The Self-perceived Difficulty Scale consisted of 10 items, and the Ability Scale included 8 items (excluding both bladder and bowel control items). Items in each individual scale were unidimensional (H$0.5). The scores of the Selfperceived Difficulty and Ability Scales were highly correlated with those of the BI (rho = 0.78 and 0.90, respectively). The scores of the two BI-SS scales and BI were significantly different from each other (p,.001). These results indicate that both BI-SS scales assessed unique constructs. Conclusions: The BI-SS had overall good construct validity in patients with stroke. The BI-SS can be used as supplementary scales for the BI to comprehensively assess patients' ADL functions in order to identify patients' difficulties in performing ADL tasks, plan intervention strategies, and assess outcomes.
