Social structures contribute greatly to the inequality to access of quality health care that exis... more Social structures contribute greatly to the inequality to access of quality health care that exists amongst citizens in South Africa. These social structures include of culture, race and socio-economic status (class). Where the National Health Insurance (NHI) has provided proposals to diminish this inequality that is foraged by the vast existing class differences amongst citizens. The NHI, however, has neglected, failing to observe the existence and address the issues of other social structures that play a role in the inequality to access of quality healthcare. The NHI, nonetheless, has adopted the holistic approach in the treatment of patients, which is the preferred approach in modern medicine. Yet, it has failed to integrate other health care services in its policy paper to cater for the cultural diversity in South Africa, which gave rise to the diverse healthcare service preferences amongst locals. Thus the feasibility of the NHI is still out weighted by the social structures that it has neglected and failed to integrate in its policy paper.
