This paper investigated the pedagogical beliefs and teaching practices of chemistry teachers at s... more This paper investigated the pedagogical beliefs and teaching practices of chemistry teachers at secondary level in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The samples of the study were 400 chemistry teachers from target population of three districts from zone 2. Data were collected through a self-developed questionnaire followed by semi structured interview and were analyzed through statistical tools i.e. mean, standard deviation, t test, ANOVA and qualitative data through qualitative data analysis techniques. Pedagogical beliefs questionnaire was used to measure teachers beliefs about their teaching practices. Finding of the study revealed that teachers have varied pedagogical beliefs i.e. positivist as well constructivist and those pedagogical beliefs in return influences how teachers teach. Finding of the study revealed that private sector teachers possess positivist teaching conceptions while public school teachers hold constructivist and critical pedagogy. It was therefore recommended for teachers, teacher educators and curriculum developer to diagnose and unravel teaching practices and the application of critical pedagogy are desired, encourage mediation to reshape those positivist teaching practices.

Sample of the study were 400 chemistry teachers from target population out of three districts of zone 2 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Convenient sampling technique was used in school selection while teachers were randomly selected. Data were collected through researcher-developed questionnaire followed by semi structured interview and were analyzed through statistical tools i.e. mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, t test, correlation and qualitative data through qualitative data analysis techniques. Epistemological beliefs questionnaire was used to measure teachers' beliefs. Finding of the study revealed that teachers hold a range of beliefs i.e. naïve and sophisticated beliefs and those beliefs in return influences teachers how to teach. It was recommended that teachers, teacher educators, curriculum developer and ministry of education endeavor to diagnose and unravel chemistry teacher's beliefs, and if alterations of beliefs are desired, encourage mediation to reshape those beliefs through proper mentoring.

This paper investigated the attitude of girls' students towards mathematics and factors affecting... more This paper investigated the attitude of girls' students towards mathematics and factors affecting their attitude towards the subject at intermediate level in Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA). The sample of the study was three hundred and thirty 330 pre-medical girls' students from six 6 higher secondary schools and inter-colleges in Khyber Agency. A convenience sampling technique was used in the selection of schools while students were randomly selected. Data were collected through a researcher-developed questionnaire with (alpha=0.97) and were analyzed through descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that girls' attitude towards mathematics was negative. Socio-cultural factors, Stereotypic effects, math's anxiety, lack of role model in mathematics, deficiency of Mathematics teachers and lack of counseling services in schools/colleges were the main factors responsible for students negative attitude towards the subject. It was, therefore, recommended that revision of present math's course, introducing math's short courses, inclusion of description of the female role models in the subject, launching of effective awareness campaigns about mathematics career for girls, overcoming the deficiency of mathematics teachers in schools/colleges and establishing counseling services in schools/colleges were necessary for changing students' attitude to provide them opportunities to join science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.

The purpose of the study was to investigate parents' attitude towards mathematics for girls and t... more The purpose of the study was to investigate parents' attitude towards mathematics for girls and the factors affecting their attitude perceived by parents of the students in government Girls' Colleges in Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) of Pakistan. Convenience and random sampling techniques were applied. A qualitative research approach was adopted to investigate the questions and an open-ended interview was the main data collecting tool of the study. Data were collected by using open-ended interviews from fifteen parents of those students who dropped mathematics at college level from two girls' colleges in Khyber Agency. The collected data were analyzed by using codes and categories. The key findings of the study showed that the parents' attitude towards mathematics for girls was negative. Socio-cultural constrains about math's-related jobs, stereotype threat about girls for mathematics, lack of parents-college communication and lack of counseling services were the main factors responsible for negative attitude towards the subject. It was, therefore, recommended that parents awareness campaigns for math-girl future, arrangement of special classes by trained female teachers for diluting math's phobia from students at primary level, creating new mathematics related jobs for female gender which are not contrary to their cultural values, provision of teachers and counseling services and establishing parents-teachers' council in colleges were necessary.

Students have direct interaction and remains under influence of their teachers. It has been accepted that teacher's personality is a role model for his students. Students are always under the influence of their teachers. They recognize and regard teachers as noble, pious, courteous, reliable and beneficent personality. Therefore students' personality reflects the personality of their teachers and they mold themselves into the image of their teachers. Students react the way their teacher behaves. Therefore teachers' conduct is utmost important to be considered in order to change the behaviour of the students.

The study was conducted to investigate girl's low enrolment in the subject of mathematics at coll... more The study was conducted to investigate girl's low enrolment in the subject of mathematics at college level as perceived by college principals in federally administered tribal area (FATA). The study was carried out in fifteen (15) girls' colleges in Khyber Agency using convenient sampling. Data were collected through self administered questionnaires from principals of the targeted colleges. The collected data were put in SPSS (16.0 version) and were analyzed by using qui-square test. Findings revealed that subject teacher's related factors, college administration, socio-cultural factors and lack of female role model in mathematics were the main factors responsible for girls' low enrolment in the subject. It was, therefore, recommended that applying innovative teaching methods and facilities, an effective awareness campaign about mathematics career for girls, establishing counseling services and inserting the description of female rule model in mathematics course and taking steps for attracting female students towards mathematics related fields to provide them opportunities to join science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

The importance of a collaborative engagement between parents and teachers in order to boost the academic achievement cannot be overemphasized; indeed, the two parties seem inseparable. Parental Involvement is the participation of parent's at home and in school activities. Academic achievement refers to the level of schooling students have successfully completed and the ability to attain success in studies. This study has been conducted to pave the way for maintaining better parental involvement which can further lead to maintain and flourish the academic achievement of their children. Population of the study consisted of teachers and parents of public high school students of District Mardan. Amongst them 40% schools were randomly selected. Data was collected through Likert scale questionnaire. Data was tabulated and analyzed by using different statistical tools like mean and standard deviation. Research revealed that there are still bad holes in parental involvement which needs to fill up especially no proper schedule for parents and teacher meetings. Moreover the study suggested to inform the parents about the curricular syllabi of their children in order to involve them effectively in school academic activities.
