Biomarker detection will help in the mechanism exploration, early diagnosis and targeted treatment. Therefore, we conducted an iTRAQ-based proteomic analysis to compare serum proteome profile between OCD patients and healthy control, in order to find out the possible biomarkers of OCD and their underlying mechanisms. 81 drug-free OCD patients and 78 healthy controls were enrolled. A total of 479 proteins were identified and only those with a fold change ≥ 1.2 and p value༜0.05 were accepted as differentially expressed proteins (DEPs). 7 up-regulated proteins, and 28 down-regulated ones were discovered. Besides dopamine beta-hydroxylase that plays a part in sympathetic system, lots of other DEPs are involved in immuno-inflammatory process. These DEPs were enriched in 44 gene ontology (GO) terms. However, none of KEGG pathway was detected significantly enriched. Our study suggested...

Hypotheses about OCD mainly include dysregulated neurotransmitters, especially serotonin, and disturbed neurodevelopment. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) association studies regarding OCD are often met with inconsistent results. However, stratification by age of onset may sometimes help to limit the heterogenicity of OCD patients. Therefore, we conducted a stratified SNP association study enrolling 636 patients and 612 healthy controls. Patients were stratified by age of onset as early-onset (EO-OCD) and late-onset (LO-OCD). Blood extracted from the patients was used to genotype 18 loci, including serotonin system genes, Slitrk1, Slitrk5, and DMRT2 and related miRNA genes. Logistic regression was used to compare allele and genotype frequencies of variants. A general linear model was used to evaluate the association between variants and trait anxiety. In our study, r...

One of the most widely used diagnostic instruments is the Diagnostic Interview for Borderline Patients-Revised (DIB-R). The aim of this study was to test the reliability and validity of DIB-R for use in the Chinese culture. Methods-The reliability and validity of the DIB-R Chinese version were assessed in a sample of 236 outpatients with a probable BPD diagnosis. The Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Personality Disorders (SCID-II) was used as a standard. Test/re-test reliability was tested at 6 months later with 20 patients and inter-rater reliability was tested on 32 patients. Results-The Chinese version of the DIB-R showed good internal global consistency (Cronbach's alpha of 0.916), good test-retest reliability (Pearson correlation of 0.704), good interraters reliability (ICC of 0.892 and Kappa of 0.861). When compared to the DSM-IV diagnosis as measured by the SCID-II, the DIB-R showed relatively good sensitivity (0.768) and specificity (0.891) at the cutoff of 7; moderate diagnostic convergence (Kappa of 0.631), as well as good discriminating validity. Conclusion-The Chinese version of the DIB-R has good psychometric properties, which renders it a valuable method for examining the presence, the severity and component phenotypes of BPD in Chinese samples.

However, it is still intensely debated that a dimensional model is more suitable. The aim of this study is to examine whether EDs have a categorical or dimensional latent structure using a sample of Chinese ED patients. Method: The sample included 322 patients, diagnosed with an ED from 2010 to 2017 in the Shanghai Mental Health Center, and comparison participants (N = 850), recruited from undergraduate students in one university in Shanghai. Participants were evaluated with the Eating Disorder Inventory-2 (EDI-2) questionnaire and another questionnaire developed by the researchers. Three taxometric procedures (MAXimum EIGenvalue [MAXEIG], latent-mode factor analysis [L-Mode], and Mean Above Minus Below A Cut [MAMBAC]) were applied, respectively, to analyze the patients' clinical symptoms data. Results: Patients were divided into three groups according to their clinical diagnosis. The plots of the three taxometric analysis procedures supported the categorical construct in anorexia nervosa, binge-eating/purging group, and bulimia nervosa group. The Comparison Curve Fit Indices of the MAXEIG, L-Mode, and MAMBAC procedures were 0.694, 0.709, 0.704 in the AN-BP group and 0.727, 0.67, 0.62 in the BN group, respectively, which also support the categorical construct. Discussion: The results support two distinct classes of ED subtypes among Chinese sample. Further work on applying hybrid model in analysis has been discussed.

Research paper thumbnail of Categories That Should Be Removed From Mental Disorders Classifications: Perspectives and Rationales of Clinicians From Eight Countries

Journal of Clinical Psychology, 2014

To explore the rationales of mental health professionals (mainly psychiatrists and psychologists)... more To explore the rationales of mental health professionals (mainly psychiatrists and psychologists) from 8 countries for removing specific diagnostic categories from mental disorders classification systems. As part of a larger study, 505 participants indicated which of 60 major disorders should be omitted from mental disorders classification systems and provided rationales. Rationale statements were analyzed using inductive content analysis. The majority of clinicians (60.4%) indicated that 1 or more disorders should be removed. The most common rationales were (a) problematic boundaries between normal and psychopathological conditions (45.9% of total removal recommendations), (b) problematic boundaries among mental disorders (25.4%), and (c) problematic boundaries between mental and physical disorders (24.0%). The categories most frequently recommended for deletion were gender identity disorder, sexual dysfunction, and paraphilias, usually because clinicians viewed these categories as being based on stigmatization of a way of being and behaving. A range of neurocognitive disorders were described as better conceptualized as nonpsychiatric medical conditions. Results were analyzed by country and country income level. Although gender identity disorder was the category most frequently recommended for removal overall, clinicians from Spain, India, and Mexico were most likely to do so and clinicians from Nigeria and Japan least likely, probably because of social and systemic factors that vary by country. Systematic differences in removal rationales by country income level may be related to the development, structure, and functioning of health systems. Implications for development and dissemination of the classification of mental and behavioral disorders in WHO's ICD-11 are discussed.

Our previous study found that PTSD is associated with selective volume loss of the CA3/dentate gyrus subfields However, the causality of smaller hippocampal volumes and PTSD cannot be determined in these studies because of the cross-sectional nature of them. The purpose of this longitudinal study was to determine if PTSD caused hippocampal subfields volume loss following traffic accidents. Volumes of hippocampal subfields in thirty seven traffic accident survivors were measured using 3T MRI in one week after accident, and twenty five of them completed one year follow-up MRI scan. Fourteen participants met the PTSD diagnosis in one year follow-up while other eleven did not met PTSD diagnosis criteria. PTSD was significantly associated with volumes reduction of CA3/dentate gyrus subfield (β=0.244 p=0.017) while other subfields were spared. It also shown volume loses of Entorhinal Cortex (ERC) of both side in one year follow-up for the whole sample (mean volume reduction: right 19.25mm3, left 22.04 mm3). But no association has been found between PTSD and ERC volume alteration. The findings indicate for the first time in humans that selective volume loss of the CA3/dentate gyrus subfields is the results but not the risk factor of PTSD. It also suggested that ERC may also be a stress sensitive region.

Event related potentials (ERP) component N400 was elicited by 38 pairs of matching (congruent) and mismatching (incongruent) ended Chinese idioms: ending words with same phoneme but different shape and meaning (sPdSdM), with similar shape but different phoneme and meaning (sSdPdM), with same meaning but different phoneme and shape (sMdPdS), and words with different phoneme, shape and meaning (dPdSdM) and recorded by Guangzhou Runjie WJ-1 ERP instruments. In 62 right-handed healthy adults (age 19 - 50 years), N400 amplitudes and latencies were compared between matching and mismatching conditions at Fz, Cz and Pz. N400 showed a midline distribution and could be elicited in electrodes Fz, Cz and Pz. The mean values of N400 latencies and amplitudes were...

Research paper thumbnail of Categories That Should Be Removed From Mental Disorders Classifications: Perspectives and Rationales of Clinicians From Eight Countries

Journal of Clinical Psychology, 2014

China’s first national mental health law has been in effect since 2013; however, the status of IA has not been sufficiently explored. To explore the changing patterns of IA since the clinical application of the IA criteria specified in the new law, an investigation of IA status was undertaken in 14 periods (each period lasting for one month from 05/2013 to 05/2017) in the tertiary specialized psychiatric hospital in Shanghai. The socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of 3733 patients were collected. The differences among IA rates in different periods were compared, and the characteristics of patients who were and were not involuntarily admitted were analysed. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to clarify the independent variables of IA. The IA rate dramatically decreased after the implementation of the new law, while the overall tre...

Method: 517 mental health professionals in 8 countries sorted 60 cards containing the names of mental disorders into groups of similar disorders, and then formed a hierarchical structure by aggregating and disaggregating these groupings. Distance matrices were created from the sorting data and used in cluster and The authors are grateful to Dr. Roger Blashfield for his very helpful comments regarding the design of the study and the interpretation and presentation of the data.

Its prevalence and behavioural characteristics may vary according to regional and cultural differences. Investigation of NSSI locations and diagnosis of adolescents with NSSI are relatively lacking in China.AimsThe study objective was to determine the prevalence and features of NSSI among middle school students in Shanghai.MethodsThe participants were from grade 6 to 8 selected from three junior schools in Jing’an District. Consenting students completed the Ottawa Self-Injury Inventory to determine the prevalence and characteristics of NSSI. Those who indicated NSSI within the past month were administered the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview for Children and Adolescents to assess for emotional disorders.ResultThe result shows 510 participants (21.7%; mean age 13.51 (0.97) years old; 56.7% female) reported at least one instance of NSSI during the previous 12 months. NSSI was significant...

Research paper thumbnail of 712 – A longitudinal mri study of hippocampal subfields volume alteration in posttraumatic stress disorder following traffic accidents

European Psychiatry, 2013
