The chemical nature and the biological activity of flavonoids depends on the structural class to which they belong, the degree of hydroxylation, the degree of polymerization, and the presence of other substituents and bonds. Today, there are large number of herbal preparations containing plant extracts rich in flavonoids used as OTC drugs, and therefore it is necessary to develop methods for controlling and monitoring their quality. Aim - Development and validation of HPLC method for determination of rutin and quercetin in tablets containing 1200 mg dry leaf of Ginkgo biloba. Method - Simple HPLC method with gradient elution (acetonitrile: 0.3% phosphoric acid), flow rate of 1,2 mL/min, column temperature of 25°C and UV detection (rutin at 255 nm, quercetin at 375 nm) of rutin and quercetin in herbal preparation containing dry leaf of Ginkgo b...

They can be composed of carbohydrates, nucleic acids, proteins, or complex combinations of these substances, or may be composed from live cells or tissues. Unlike chemically synthesized small molecules that have a well-defined structure and are thoroughly characterized, the pharmaceutical products with biological origin are complex in structure and therefore their full characterization is great achievement. Analytical methodology that is currently in use enables a comprehensive characterization and identification of biopharmaceuticals (determination of molecular weight and particle size, physico-chemical properties, identity, purity and homogeneity, biological activity, immunochemical properties, purity/impurities (if present), pr...

The accreditation has been granted by the National Institute for Accreditation in December 2006. Since then, the maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management System remains a key element in our policy. It is well-known that one of the elements by which laboratories can demonstrate their competence is through participation in Proficiency Testing (PT) activities. Therefore, our laboratory adopted practice to participate in at least one PT scheme relating to each sub-discipline per a year. Since the first accreditation, our laboratory participated in 15 PT schemes, organized by different providers, such as: Muva Kempten Quality Management & Laboratory Services; FAPAS; DRRR Deutsches Referenzbüro für Lebensmittel-Ringversuche und Referenzmaterialien; LGC; Asia Pacific laboratory Accreditation Cooperation etc. The most freq...

This new approach is focused on the use of a series of radiolabeled platelet GPIIb/IIIa receptor antagonists. Tirofiban N-(butylsulfonyl)- 4-O-(4-(4-piperidyl)-L-tyrosine is a non-peptide tyrosine derivate. The aim of the study was to introduce radioactive-labeled tirofiban as a specific imaging agent for acute DVT and to determine the serum concentrations in normotensive male Wister rats with and without deep acute venous thrombosis in order to confirm the animal model of acute venous thrombosis

The aim of this study was to develop a sensitive and accurate RP-HPLC method with indirect UV detection for determination of IBN in pharmaceutical formulations. Chromatographic separation was performed on a Waters Bridge C18 reversed-phase column (250 x 4.6 mm I.D.; particle size 5 µm), in an isocratic mode with a mobile phase constituted of 90% buffer: 10% acetonitrile (V/V). The buffer was made using 1.5 mL ortho-phosphoric acid, 990 mg 1-Hexanesulfonic acid sodium salt 98%, 140 mg EDTA in 1000 mL flask diluted with HPLC grade water. The elution was carried out at a flow rate of 1.0 mL minˉ1. A diode array detector measured the UV absorbance at 198 nm, in inverse mode. The method was validated for specificity/selectivity, linearity, LOD, LOQ, accuracy, precision and robustness according to ICH validation guidelines. The limits of detection and quantification were calculated at 0.0163 µg/mL and 0.0495 µg/mL, respectively. The method was effectively used for determination of IBN from commercial tablets and provided good results without any interference from commonly used excipients.

Research paper thumbnail of Determination of All-Rac-Alpha-Tocopherol and All-Rac-Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate (Synthetic Vitamin E) in Cosmetic Preparations

Different forms of tocopherols, together with tocotrienols, are collectively named as vitamin E (... more Different forms of tocopherols, together with tocotrienols, are collectively named as vitamin E (a lipid-soluble vitamin with antioxidation effect in several stages of peroxidation of lipids in vivo) and each possesses different degree of medical, biological and physiochemical significance. Among four tocopherols (α-, β-, γ- and δ-tocopherol), alpha-tocopherol has been reported to possess the highest biological activity. To the best of our knowledge, the specific cell targets and successive mechanism of cytotoxic activity of capsaicin in different type of malignant cells, still remains unclear and contradictory. Therefore, this mini review, explains some of the most significant chemopreventive mechanisms of the action of capsaicin at a cellular level, reported in the recent literature.

Biosynthesis of capsaicinoids is specific characteristic only for secondary metabolism of the plant metabolism of genus Capsicum. Hot peppers contain vanylil conjugates of amid type, which are absent or switched with their not hot esters or isosters (capsinoids) in the mild types of peppers. The pepper, Capsicum annuum L., fam. Solanaceae, is one of the leading agricultures in Republic of Macedonia. Its fruits have been used for a long time, mainly because of its nutritive value, throught the period of all seasons, in their botanical or technical maturity. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to analyze the percentage ratio of the most common capsaicinoids, present in hot peppers, as: capsaicin, dihydrocapsaicin and nordihydrocapsaicin.

In the extracts obtained from the fruits of fifteen different genotypes of Capsicum annuum L
