Thus the paper attempts to determine the socio-economic determinate of corruption, using contents analysis to explain it. Sociological perspective of Functionalists and Marxist paradigms were used. It also argues that Nigeria’s socio-economic failure due to corruption can be easily recognized when we compare her with huge populous, ethnically diverse-rich nations. The idea of sustainable socio-economic development is predicted on the creation of healthy, societies that can sustain the present generation as well as those that follows through the judicious use of economic, environmental and cultural resources which have always been a mirage due to persistent corruption. Having observed the strong relationship between corruption and soc...

The average annual growth rate of per capita GDP for the 16 most important developed market economies was 6.3% from 1955-73 and 2.0% from 1973-79. The average share of government in GDP went from 27% in 1955 to 34% in 1970 to 43% in 1979.2 The simple correlation proves nothing, but it suggests the growth of government might be one of the causes of the slowdown. Many economists have theorized that government production is staticly less efficient than private sector production with competitive markets. (see

On the basis of 1D and 2D-NMR experiments and MS data analyses, these compounds were identified as naringenin (B), taxifolin 4'-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (C), elephantorrhizol (D), catechin 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (E) and eriodictyol 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (F). DPPH radical scavenging activity was used to estimate the antioxidant capacity of each of these compounds. The result shows that elephantorrhizol has stronger DPPH scavenging activity than other isolated flavonoids.

Research paper thumbnail of Transmittal Group Lending Model as an Innovative Alternative for Managing Risk and Reducing Cost in Micro-Lending

The relevance of micro-lending in battling poverty and encouraging sustainability of the poor is ... more The relevance of micro-lending in battling poverty and encouraging sustainability of the poor is more vividly seen after the emergence of Bangladesh-based Grameen Bank as a successful microfinance institution in 2006. Creating a sustainable microfinance institution largely depends on the two important factors; cost and risk. This paper examines the common risks and costs associated with micro lending, vis-à-vis the trade-off that results into higher costs the more risks are well managed, and higher risks the more costs are highly reduced. As the popular 'group lending' model is patronised by the majority MFIs around the world, this paper has gone beyond to suggest the adoption of a new concept in group lending management; the Transmittal Lending model. This new model is theoretically described to optimise the two conflicting variables of risk and costs, so as to enhance an MFI's profitability and sustainability, simultaneously. The general methodology applied is a review on relevant literature so as to find previously established research opinions that will support the new group lending model. Nevertheless, this new model needs to be quantitatively tested by researchers in the field to deeply understand the dynamics of its applicability in the industry.

In this instrumental analytical study, two methods (viz: Colorimetry and Spectrophotometry) were utilized to investigate the level of Fe contents in branded capsules and their respective tonics marketed in pharmaceutical stores within Aliero metropolis, Nigeria. The comparative test analysis of iron content in five branded Tonics and their Capsules using two different methods revealed that none of the capsules have the same amount of label iron contents with their corresponding tonic equivalents.
