The two firms therefore had advantages over their local competitors from the onset but by identifying the extent of their marketing competency factors the study was trying to establish a raison-d’etre for the new formats. A sample of customers were asked to indicate the existence or otherwise of 14 marketing competency factors adopted from the literature for the two firms. It was found that it was a mix bag for both firms as they excelled in some but were poor in others. This suggests a less than well rounded marketing strategy for the firms and consequently a sub-optimal performance and returns on investment. Student’s t-test was used to test the hypothesis. Even though they outperformed their competitors in terms of patronage, the two firms could do better and it was recommended that the management of the two firms strive to impro...

Data were collected from two sources, namely the primary and secondary sources. The primary data were from oral interview in form of discussion with some small scale business owners e.g.(saloon operators, barbers, photographers, soft drink sellers, yam and rice sellers, tomatoes and vegetables sellers etc.). While the secondary data were obtained from internet/web, course papers on the subject matter, magazine, journals and published materials. The study identified a number of external influences on the performance of small scale business such as technology, economic, political/legal and social cultural influence. The study recommends that managers should have proper knowledge of those external factors and adapt to the opportunities and threats.

The experiment was set up in a completely randomized design (CRD). 12 broodstocks were used for the experiment (9 females, 3 males) and the broodstock were distributed into three treatments (Treatment A was injected with 0.3ml/kg, Treatment B was injected with 0.5ml/kg and Treatment C was injected with 0.7ml/kg) and each treatment was replicated three times. The result showed that Treatment C had the highest mean values for fertilization rate (88.12%) and was significantly different from the other treatments. It also has higher value for Hatching rate (82.07%) but lower rates for larval survival (83.60%). Treatment B had the highest value for larval survival with 85.20% followed by Treatments A and C with mean values of 84.23% and 83.60% respectively. The present investigation demonstrated that C. gariepinus can successfully be induced to ovulate a...

Empirical results indicated that inflation in Nigeria proxied by CPI exhibited a strong degree of inertia. The econometric results showed that past inflation and average rainfall appeared to have been the main determinants of inflationary process in Nigeria over the study period. We also found strong evidence of the importance of money supply in the inflation process, lending credence to the dominance of the monetarist proposition on inflation dynamics in Nigeria. Thus, the paper recommended among others, the continuous moderation of growth in money supply by the central bank and adopting consumers’ expectations of inflation as an input into the monetary policy process.

Recent studies indicated the possibility of a slowdown in output, resulting from the pessimism of consumers in their expectations about the general state of the economy, even if their pessimism were not based on economic fundamentals. This study evaluated the predictive ability of the CCI in forecasting economic fluctuations in Nigeria. The study applied the Granger Causality tests, impulse response functions and forecast error variance decomposition to assess if CCI granger causes output growth as well as ascertain the magnitude of the change in GDP resulting from a change in CCI. Results from granger causality tests indicated a causal relationship between CCI indicators and real GDP growth in Nigeria. Furthermore, the study found that CCI explained the movements in economic activities, even though the magnitude was small. These result...

Through finite element modelling, this model can be employed in wellbore stability studies in order to optimise drilling fluid formulation and mud weight selection. Specifically, we present the results of finite-element-finite colume based analysis of thermal and solute diffusion associated with wellbore heating and cooling effect on the reservoir system by drilling fluid over a period of time. Then, we solve the heat driven solute diffusion equation with thermal osmosis and solute diffusion coefficients. This preliminary investigation indicates a gradual but steady increase in temperature in the near wellbore region during during heat energy disspation from the far-field region. A reverse process was observed during the cooling process ...
