Knowledge of Research, 2014

Corrosion inhibition properties of Al-Cu alloy in 0.001 M NaOH solution at pH 11 were investigate... more Corrosion inhibition properties of Al-Cu alloy in 0.001 M NaOH solution at pH 11 were investigated at four temperatures include 298, 303, 308 and 313 K using potentiostat by adding sodium acetate as inhibitor with three concentrations 0.05, 0.1 and 0.15 M. Corrosion parameters, protection efficiencies, thermodynamic and kinetic functions have been measured to estimate the inhibition efficiency of Al alloy in experimental conditions. The results indicate that 0.05 M of sodium acetate is the best concentration through the data of protection efficiency which supported by the highest value of enthalpy. The values of activation energy became higher indicating the inhibitive action of acetate. The entropy of activation values was negative.

The dissociation of alanine in Dimethyl formamide mixtures over the temperature range 293.15-308.... more The dissociation of alanine in Dimethyl formamide mixtures over the temperature range 293.15-308.15K, has been studied by direct conductance measurements. The acid dissociation at each temperature was investigated at solvent composition (X2) involving 0.141. The conductance measurements enabled the estimation of the degree of the acid dissociation, the molar conductivity of the acid at infinite dilution and the activation energy for the movement of cation and anion ions the in solvent mixture at infinite dilution. The resulting data have been used to determine the dissociation constant and the associated thermodynamic functions for the acid dissociation in the solvent mixture. At temperature in the range 293.15 - 308.15 K. The pKa1 and pKa2 increased with increasing temperature.

Research paper thumbnail of Experimental and Theoretical Study of Neomycin Sulfate as Corrosion Protection for Titanium in Acid Media

Baghdad Science Journal, 2021

The results of neomycin sulfate drug had good corrosion protection for titanium in hydrochloric acid and the inhibition efficiency (%IE) increasing with increasing concentration of drug because the neomycin sulfate drug had adsorption from acid solution on surface of titanium metal. The program of hyperchem-8.07 was used for theoretical study of the drug by molecular mechanics and semiempirical calculations. Quantum chemical was studied drug absorption and electron transferred from the drug to the Titanium metal, also inhibition potentials of drug attachment with the (LUMO-HOMO) energy gap, dipole moment (μ) of the molecules and electrostatic potentials.

Our sample number exceeds the size of the previous HCN samples studied so far by a factor of 3, and it is the first study on the possible relation with the dense gas tracer HCO + . We find a strong correlation between normalized H2O maser emission luminosity (LH2O/LCO) and normalized HCO + line luminosity (LHCO + /LCO). Moreover, a weak correlation has been found between LH2O/LCO and normalized HCN line luminosity (LHCN/LCO). The sample is also studied after excluding Luminous and ultraluminous infrared galaxy (U)LIRG sources, and the mentioned correlations are noticeably stronger. We show that ‘dense gas’ fractions as obtained from HCN and HCO + molecules tightly correlate with maser emission, especially for galaxies with normal IR luminosity (LIR < 1011 L⊙) and we show tha...

The structural characterization of the RSB was performed through pore structural analysis (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller), scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, point of zero charge method, and proximate analysis. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to study the influence of adsorbent dosage (0.05-0.30 g), solution pH (2-12), initial dye concentration (20-100 mg/L), and contact time (0-240 min) on the adsorption of the MB. The kinetic uptake results were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic. The experimental data at equilibrium fitted well with the Langmuir model at 303°K, and the maximum adsorption capacity of MB on the RSB surface was found to be 158 mg/g. The mechanism of adsorption included mainly electrostatic attractions, n-π stacking interaction, and hydrogen bonding interaction. The results indicate the potential use of RBS as natural, renewable, and low-cost biosorbent for the removal of MB dye as a model of cationic dye.

Chalcones are one of the major classes of natural products, with widespread distribution in fruit... more Chalcones are one of the major classes of natural products, with widespread distribution in fruits, vegetables, spices, tea and soya based food stuff, which have been recently subjected to great interest for their interesting pharmacological activates [1]. Chalcone is a common natural pigment and considered as an important intermediate compound in the biosynthesis of flavone which is also known as anthoxanthin yellow pigment in the plant kingdom [2,3]. Chalcones are also present in normal human diet and represent one of the most important and interesting classes of biologically active compounds. Chalcones open chain (1,3-diaryl-2-propen-1-one) constitutes a class of naturally occurring and synthetic compounds. The first intermediate of flavonoid biosynthesis occurs sporadically in which they are located [4]. Numbers of naturally occurring chalcones are polyhydroxylated in the aryl rings. The radical quenching properties of the phenolic groups present in many chalcones have been raised interest using the compounds or chalcone rich plant extracts as drug or food preservatives [5,6]. Chalcones and their derivatives hold a special place among pharmaceutically significant natural products and synthetic compounds [7,8].

Research paper thumbnail of Equilibrium, Kinetic and Thermodynamics of Biosorption of Lead (II) Copper (II) and Cadmium (II) Ions fromAqueous Solutions ontoOlive Leaves Powder

American Journal of Chemistry, 2012

Biosorption of lead (II), copper (II) and cadmium (II) ions from aqueous solutions onto olive lea... more Biosorption of lead (II), copper (II) and cadmium (II) ions from aqueous solutions onto olive leaves powder has been investigated. The biosorption of lead (II), copper (II), and cadmium (II) was found to be dependent on solution pH, initial metal ion concentrations, biosorbent dose, contact time and temperature. The experimental equilibrium biosorption data were analyzed by two widely used two-parameters, Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The Langmuir model gave a better fit than the Freundlich model. The kinetic studies indicated that the biosorption process of the metal ions followed well pseudo-second-order model. The thermodynamic parameters Gibbs free energy, ∆G • , enthalpy, ∆H • , and entropy, ∆S • were also calculated, and the values indicated that the biosorption process was endothermic and spontaneous in nature. It was concluded that olive leaves powder can be used as an effective, low cost, and environmentally friendly biosorbent for removal of Pb(II), Cu(II) and Cd(II) ions from aqueous solution.
