It is a mental image of someone’s own personality about the height, shape, skin color, as well as psychology and emotions, the dimension of ego and social position. Knowledge about correct self-perception is very important in everyone`s life particularly student because poor self-image may cause distortion in their cognitive abilities, academic achievements as well as social well-being. Recent focus has been on “the effects of self-image on academic performance”, we tried to evaluate at what extent students are concerned about their physical appearance and how much they are affected due to their own self-perception. Objective: To compare the duration for stabilization of respiratory rate in children having pneum... more Objective: To compare the duration for stabilization of respiratory rate in children having pneumonia with and without rickets. Methods: This case control study was conducted at Department of Paediatrics Dow University of Health Sciences and Civil Hospital Karachi, Pakistan, from January to August 2016. In this study 100 diagnosed cases of pneumonia with age group of >2 months to 60 months were divided into two equal groups as cases and control. Those children with pneumonia who had any clinical sign of rickets had an X-ray wrist and serum levels of alkaline phosphatase done to confirm the diagnosis of rickets. Children who were confirmed to have rickets along with pneumonia were recruited as "cases" while "controls" had pneumonia but without rickets. Patients were followed as per Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illnesses (IMNCI) guidelines and respiratory rate was noted daily along with other features of pneumonia until it returned to normal f...

OBJECTIVE To determine the frequency of different occupational hazards among dental surgeons in K... more OBJECTIVE To determine the frequency of different occupational hazards among dental surgeons in Karachi. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional survey. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY Amulticenter study conducted at Ameen Diabetic and Dental Hospital, Dental OPD, Karachi Medical and Dental College, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Karachi, from February to March 2014. METHODOLOGY Dentists, practicing in different areas of Karachi, were given a self-administered questionnaire. It comprised of a form containing information about the socio-demographic profile of dentists and questionnaires regarding occupational hazards experienced in practice. RESULTS Atotal of 130 dentists, involved in clinical practice, were randomly selected. There were 45 (35%) males and 85 (65%) females. The average age was 39 ±5.76 years. Out of 130 dentists, 93.8% (122/130) had occupational hazard during practice. Cervical back pain was observed in 81.96% dentists followed by knee / elbow joint pain in 53.27%, eye infection in 4...
