Research paper thumbnail of Piston-Seals Friction Modeling Using a Modified Maxwell Slip Formation and Genetic Identification Algorithm

IEEE Access

Improving spontaneity, shifting control, and efficiency are the main goals of actuators for hydra... more Improving spontaneity, shifting control, and efficiency are the main goals of actuators for hydraulic automated transmissions. Friction losses of piston-seals play an essential role in achieving these goals. Therefore, modeling the complex friction behavior of piston seals leads to a better understanding of the determinant factors of energy losses and, consequently, the realization of more efficient transmission actuators. This paper proposes a piston-seal friction model based on the Generalized Maxwell-Slip model. The proposed model introduces an additional hydraulic-pressure dependency that emulates the influence of cylinder-pressure on the displacement variable while accounting for various piston-seal structures. A Genetic Algorithm is also applied to identify and optimize the parameters of the proposed friction model. Simulations with O-Ring, D-Ring, and Bonded Piston seals were developed to show the validity of the proposed model in practical scenarios. The results were also compared with the original Generalized Maxwell Slip friction model to show the superiority of the proposed model in representing the experimental data. INDEX TERMS Friction modeling, generalized Maxwell model, genetic algorithm optimization, modified generalized Maxwell model, piston seal, proportional-integral observer.

The outage probability of mobile wireless networks over η-μ fading channel

2018 IEEE Middle East and North Africa Communications Conference (MENACOMM), 2018

The probability density of the received power, and the outage probability of wireless static netw... more The probability density of the received power, and the outage probability of wireless static networks in η-μ fading environment have been well analyzed in the literature whereas, a few papers account for dynamic mobility models where the also the effect of random position of nodes is considered in the statictics of the received power. Based on our knowledge, most of the existing work in dynamic mobility models in wireless network consider Rayleigh fading environments. In this paper, the performance evaluation of dynamic mobility model over more generalized (η-μ) distribution is studied. Novel expressions for the received power and the outage probability are derived. In addition, these expressions includes several other available in the literature, such as those for Rayleigh [1], and Nakagami-m [2] distributions. Finally, the effects of propagation, path loss are presented in the numerical results.

We assume in this paper that, there is an indicator about the type of disturbance affecting the system. This approach will be applied on the lateral vehicle dynamics as a case study. Two observer will be designed to deal with stochastic and deterministic unknown inputs. The model were implemented in Matlab/Simulink and the results were compared with CarMaker software as powerful vehicle simulator.

Image processing is used to extract the redundant system response features. The residual generator based robust fault detection filter (RFDF) is used to reduce the effects of disturbances. The main contribution of this study is to develop a redundant hybrid FD technique to improve the monitoring and diagnosis of automatic control systems with the assistance of cameras. Finally, a practical case based on three tanks system is simulated to demonstrate the functionality of the proposed method.

Fault tolerant control (FTC) is designed using Parity-Space approach to diagnose the sensor faults in the wind turbine. Based on the fault detection system an FTC scheme is proposed to accommodate and reconfigurable the control signals. The main contribution of this study is to develop a monitoring and control system of wind turbine, which reduces the system components as well as to increase the reliability and safety of wind turbines. The sensors which considered in this study are pitch position, generator speed and rotor speed sensors. Real data of wind measurement and real parameters of wind turbine is used to illustrate the proposed scheme.

Research paper thumbnail of Performance Analysis of Dynamic Downlink PPP Cellular Networks Over Generalized Fading Channels With MRC Diversity

IEEE Access, 2021

The η-µ distribution is employed to derive the received power probability density function, the average bit error rate for different modulation schemes, and the coverage probability assuming a Poisson point process spatial distribution of base stations in downlink. The user is assumed to experience fading with Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC) and move according to a random way-point mobility model. The proposed expressions are applicable to different widely-used fading environments, such as Rayleigh and Nakagami-m as particular cases, by an appropriate selection of the η-µ parameters. Monte Carlo simulation was used to show the validity of the proposed expressions. The generalized expressions allow the system designer to quantify the effects of user mobility on the cellular network performance, in different propagation environments, and network topologies as a function of the number of base stations and MRC branches. INDEX TERMS η-µ fading, random way-point, maximum ratio combining, stochastic geometry, poisson point process, average bit error rate, coverage probability.

Research paper thumbnail of Overlay Cognitive Radio Based on OFDM with Channel Estimation Issues

Wireless Personal Communications, 2019

Cognitive radio (CR) has been proposed as a technology to improve the spectrum efficiency by givi... more Cognitive radio (CR) has been proposed as a technology to improve the spectrum efficiency by giving an opportunistic access of the licensed-user spectra to unlicensed users. We consider an overlay CR consisting of a primary macro-cell and cognitive small cells of cooperative secondary base stations (SBS). We suggest studying a CR where an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing is used for both the primary users (PU) and the secondary users (SU). In order to cancel the interferences, a precoding is required at the SBS. Therefore, we first derive the interferences expression due to SU at the PU receiver. Then, zero forcing beamforming (ZFBF) is considered to cancel the interferences. However, applying ZFBF depends on the channels between the SBS and the PU. A channel estimation is hence necessary. For this purpose, we propose to approximate the channel by an autoregressive process (AR) and to consider the channel estimation issue by using a training sequence. The received signals, also called the observations, are considered to be disturbed by an additive white measurement noise. In that case, the AR parameters and the channel can be jointly estimated from the received noisy signal by using a recursive approach. Nevertheless, the corresponding state space representation of the system is non-linear. Then, we propose to carry out a complementary study by compare non-linear Kalman filter based approaches.
