Acetic acid-induced writhing in mice and hind paw oedema in rats were determined. The results of these studies showed the extract to possess anti-nociceptive activity which is dosedependent at 50mg and 100mg/kg (i.p) in mice and in the same way a slight inflammatory activity at 50 and 100mg/kg were observed. The extract was also found to have an intraperitoneal (i.p) LD50 of 368.00mg in mice. These results correlate with the traditional use of the plant by the traditional medical healers and support the use of the plant in the management of inflammation and skin diseases.

As a result, several classification techniques exist, which are roughly classified as pixel-based and object-based classification methods. Based on the foregoing, this study provided an integrated method of deriving land use from a coarse satellite image. Location coordinates of the land uses were acquired with a handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) instrument as primary data. The study classified the image quantitatively (pixel-based) into built-up, water, riparian, cultivated, and uncultivated land cover classes with no mixed pixels, and then qualitatively into educational, commercial, health, residential, and security land use classes that were conflicting due to spectral similarity. The total accuracy and kappa coefficient of the pixel-based land cover classification were 92.5% and 94% respectively. The results showed that residential land use occupied an area of 5500.01ha, followed by educational (280...

Research paper thumbnail of Relationship of the Seasonal Vegetation Indices against the NDVI and LST in the Region of Kamuku Game Reserve and Kwiambana National Park, Nigeria

The NDVI, derived earlier by Rouse (1973), and is the commonly used VI, there have meagre understanding of the relationship between the NDVI and another VIs. Similarly, investigations on the correlation between LST and other VIs (other than NDVI) in both dry and raining seasons have not been adequately explored. This motivated the study to determine the seasonal correlation of some spectral VIs against the NDVI and LST over the forest reserve area. The study investigated two categories of VIs: slope-based and distance-based. It derived spectral VIs from Landsat 8 images for dry (January) and raining (August) seasons; and estimated LST from MODIS. The findings showed that the ARVI, GNDVI and TVI not only showed resemblance in appearance with the NDVI in both season...

River-Kaduna, which spread over a wide area cut across certain neighborhoods, often inundates its banks predominantly during heavy rainfall, and resulting into urban flood. However, to map the extent of inundation without river gauge data is impossible. Therefore, the study presented a simple, logical and effective method of mapping the extent of the 2018 inundation along River-Kaduna. It processed two sets of Landsat OLI and TIRS images – one as pre-flood and the other as during-flood. Owing to the unavailability of river gauge data within the study area, a DEM was incorporated into the analysis to define the water level based on the derived modified Normalized Difference Water Index (mNDWI), Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN), flow direction, profile, and cross-section of the River. The study revealed that the water of the...
