Monitoring of these may be done using the central fat indices, which are inexpensive and simple. The objective of the study was to evaluate the various central fat accumulation indices amongst the different polycystic ovary syndrome phenotypes. Method: 100 women aged 18-40 year fulfilling Rotterdam criteria for diagnosis of PCOS were selected. Height, weight, waist circumference and lipid profile were measured and BMI, Lipid accumulation product and Visceral adiposity index were calculated. Body Fat Percentage was measured by the Body Fat Analyser using the bioelectrical impedance method. Data was analysed and conclusions drawn. Results: Women with hyperandrogenic PCOS [phenotypes A (HA+OD+PCO), B(HA+OD), C(HA+PCO)] (33. 3% of total) presented with raised central fat accumulation indices including BMI (mean:25. 04), BFA (mean: 2...

Histopathological evaluation of the endometrial samples plays a significant role in the diagnosis of abnormal uterine bleeding. This study was carried out with an aim to determine the histopathological pattern of the endometrium in women presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding. A retrospective analysis of 250 patients presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding was done who underwent endometrial sampling during a 6 month period from January 2014 to June 2014 at the Zenana Hospital, SMS Medical College, Jaipur. Endometrial tissue collected had been sent for histopathology. The age of patients ranged from 25 to 60 years. Maximum number of cases 130 (52%) were seen from perimenopausal age group where proliferative endometrium was predominant (53.08%), followed by endometrial hyperplasia in (32.31%) cases, secretory phase seen in (10.77%)of cases. Atrophic endometrium...

Research paper thumbnail of Risk of malignancy index 4 in preoperative evaluation of patients with ovarian tumours

International journal of reproduction, contraception, obstetrics and gynecology, 2018

Accurate and timely diagnosis of an adnexal mass is a challenge for the gynecologists, because the type of surgical procedure and the experience of the surgeon are important for the prognosis of ovarian carcinoma. Apart from clinical evaluation, ultrasonography, tumour markers and radiological investigations have been proposed to evaluate ovarian tumours. Unfortunately, none of these methods has shown significantly better performance in discriminating malignant tumors from benign tumours. Risk of malignancy index is a mathematical formula which incorporates menopausal status, serum level of CA125 and ultrasonographic score. RMI was first developed by Jacob et al, in 1990 to discriminate between malignant and benign ovarian tumours. Using an RMI cut-off level of 200, they observed sensitivity to be 85% ABSTRACT

Conditions such as complete molar pregnancy which produces large amount of serum beta Human chorionicgonadotrophin ( β hCG), may cause a false negative result due to oversaturation of the assay system known as the “Ho ok Effect”. We report a case where the exclusion of pregnancy by urine test lead to initia l misdiagnosis of molar pregnancy. The patient demonstrated clinical features of hydatidif orm mole, despite multiple negative urine pregnancy tests. These false- negative qualitative human chorionic gonadotropin assays were likely caused by the “high ‐ dose Hook Effect”. Gyn aecologists need to be reminded of the possibility of false negative result with this comm only used test.
