The trunk and limbs are the usual sites affected. Isolated facial involvement is an exceedingly rare entity. Despite a comprehensive medical literature search, the author could find only two cases of LAM where the lesions are exclusively localized to the face. In this article, the author presents the third case of LAM localized to face only. Case Presentation: A 26-year-old male complained of multiple linear non-pruritic pigmented lesions over the left side of the nose and glabellar area of six months’ duration. There was no history of erythema, thickening/hardening of skin, or violaceous border surrounding the lesions. On clinical examination, there were multiple hyperpigmented brownish lesions, the majority of which were depressed, involving the left ala and bridge of nose laterally and glabellar area in a Blaschkoid ...

Thyroid dysfunction has been reported in systemic sclerosis but it has been rarely reported in morphea. There are few case reports of plaque-type morphea associated with autoimmune thyroiditis but generalized morphea with hypothyroidism has been rarely reported. We report a 55-year-old female with generalized morphea involving trunk and proximal limbs who revealed hypothyroidism on laboratory screening. Due to the rarity of this association we were obliged to report the same.

Within the same country, its prevalence may vary depending on climactic changes. Usually, it predates the onset of cutaneous involvement in SSc but in some cases it can follow the skin changes in these patients. Its evolution differs in the two variants (limited and diffuse) of the disease and can be a clinical pointer to differentiate between the two disease subsets. Aim The study investigated the prevalence of Raynauds phenomenon in SSc; its relationship with the disease onset and subset. Methods The authors carried out a prospective observational study at the postgraduate department of dermatology, sexually transmitted diseases and leprosy of SMHS Hospital involving 56 patients of systemic sclerosis. Results Out of 56 patients, 40 [71.4%] and 16 [28.6%] patients had limited SSc [lSSc] and diffuse SSc [dSSc] respectively. Raynaud's phenomenon was seen in 54 [96.4%] patients. It ...

Methods Thirty-four patients of systemic sclerosis, attending the dermatology department, diagnosed as per the American Rheumatology Association criteria were recruited for this cross-sectional study. They were classified as having limited and diffuse systemic sclerosis. All patients were subjected to serum estimations of antinuclear antibodies, anticentromere antibodies and anti-Scl70 antibodies. The results were tabulated and analyzed for possible association between disease subsets and antibodies. Results There were 27 patients with limited disease and 7 with diffuse disease. Antinuclear antibodies were seen in 76.5% of all patients. Anticentromere antibodies were seen in 9 (33.3%) limited disease patients and 1 (14.3%) in diffuse variant. The total prevalence of a...

Methods This cross-sectional hospital based study was conducted in admitted psychiatric patients over a period of one year. Sequential 148 admitted patients with a primary psychiatric illness were studied. Results This study comprised of 148 patients, 112 males and 36 females. Schizophrenia was the commonest psychiatric diagnosis, comprising 57 (38.5%) patients followed by mania seen in 27 (18.2%) patients. Nail changes were seen in 57 (38.5%) patients. Longitudinal ridging was the most common presentation seen in 16 (10.8%) patients, followed by dystrophic nail in 9 (6%) patients, hang nail 8 (5.4%), traumatic nail 7 (4.7%), paronychia 7 (4.7%), longitudinal melanonychia 6 (4%), petechial hemorrhage 5 (3.3%) and focal pigmentation in 5 (3.3%) patients. Conclusion Nail manifestations are common in the psychiatric patients. Understanding the causes of nail changes in these patients can help in...

Methods This hospital-based study involved 56 patients of systemic sclerosis and 300 age and sex matched controls without systemic sclerosis. Thyroid function tests, such as thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free tri-iodothyronine (T3), free thyroxine (T4), were advised in all cases, and anti thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibody, thyroid gland ultrasonography and fine needle aspiration cytology in selected patients only. Results Abnormal thyroid functions were found in 37.5% cases compared to 18.7% in control group, and 26.78% of cases had hypothyroidism compared to 16.7% among the controls. 21.4% patients among cases had subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) compared to 13.33% among controls. Conclusion Thyroid dysfunctions are common in systemic sclerosis and the same should be evaluated as rout...

They reported five healthy young patients who were having unilateral hyperpigmented depressed plaques along Blaschko’s lines on the trunk and extremities without any evidence of long-term progression. These plaques were not associated with inflammation, induration, or sclerosis. 2,3

This is the result of the altered endocrine, metabolic and immunological state in the female. Many cutaneous changes are common and benign; these are referred to as the physiological changes of pregnancy. They may be of cosmetic concern to the patient and seldom require intervention. These changes are so well recognized that they act as contributory evidence of pregnancy. Many pre-existing dermatological conditions tend to change in pregnancy; some are aggravated while others may be relieved. Knowledge of these conditions is important to forewarn the patient and to prepare for upcoming complications. There are a group of dermatoses specific to pregnancy and there has been much confusion in the literature about their classification and nomenclature. Atopic Eruption of Pregnancy is the most common pregnancy specific dermatoses followed by Polymorphic Eruption of Pregnancy. These are benign conditions with no risk to the...
