Hence, this study aims to systematically review the literature, focusing on OERs’ benefits and challenges in the academic world. Design/methodology/approach The relevant literature systematically reviewed following the preferred reporting items for systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The pertinent literature was obtained from four main scholarly databases, and finally, 21 papers that met the inclusion criteria were included in this study. Findings The findings revealed that the key benefits of OERs include expanded access to knowledge, supporting lifelong learning, pedagogical benefits and enhancing students’ learning outcomes. However, the key challenges include lack of time to find appropriate resources, lack of awareness about the usage and copyrights, qualit...

The main objective of this paper was to analyze the published research and citations on linguistics and present the results from the perspective of growing trends, most productive and influential countries, organizations, authors, research journals, keywords, authorship patterns, and international collaborations. The subject category of linguistics selected in the Web of Science database, for this purpose, 6144 publications have been retrieved from the Web of Science database. This retrieved data is analyzed using visualization tools and dividing it into two phases on a temporal basis. Overall, the first phase, from 1919-1999, shows a lower number of research publications in linguistics, whereas the second phase (2000-2020) with 5585 publications and 41195 citations shows a significant growth in linguistics research. Among them, the highest number of publications is from the US that is followed by th...

After the gap and neglect of centuries, the region is undergoing reforms that would increase scientific activities. Using the InCites tool of Clarivate Analytics, this study used bibliometric indicators of research impact and productivity to present the dynamics of the Arab World’s research published between 1980 and 2020. The findings disclose that the first two decades of the 21st century witnessed a significant increase in research productivity in the region consistent with the Arab World’s recent initiatives to promote scientific research. Saudi publications attracted the highest number of citations. Almost half of the region’s research has collaborated internationally. The region performed better than the world in several indicators like citation impact, impact factor publications, and international collaborations; however, the region’s performance lags behind the world in academic-industry collaborations and publications in Q1 journals and impact relative to the world indicators. The study recommends adopting the open access model of publishing for increased visibility and impact based on the findings. Increased attention is needed in the region to enhance research linkages between universities and industry.

This trend suggests a potential disconnect between Road Traffic Injuries (RTI) research and the mitigation measures put in place. Method: Here, we present an in-depth bibliometric analysis to obtain a comprehensive understanding of RTI research in the GCC region. The Web of Science database was used to search and retrieve the relevant articles during the period of 1981-2019. Results: The volume of RTI research increased from 2015–2019, suggesting an increased focus on traffic safety in the GCC region. Saudi Arabia had the highest RTI research productivity level (126 publications); Bahrain had the lowest (7 publications). Inconsistent with its low publication volume, Hammad Medical Corps of Qatar had the highest citation impact score of 16.33. Global collaboration for RTI research was highest betwee...

The research design was qualitative, adopting the phenomenology approach. In-depth interviews of 14 senior academic library leaders from public and private sector universities of Pakistan were conducted. Leadership crisis was identified as the top challenge followed by those related to changing user behavior, human resources, financial, technological issues, and changes in higher education. Prospective challenges encompassed issues related to technological modalities, human resources, research data management and library space. While the study participants indicated their readiness to cope with these challenges, they agreed that there was a need of collective effort for human capacity building, initiation of compatible smart services, effective policy making and creation of societal awareness. it is often neglected doing empirical research. It is first study in context of Pakistan
that explores gray literature, its access, usage, management and issues faced by academic
libraries. A self-developed questionnaire was employed to collect data from a total of 74
respondents (one respondent from each university preferably serial librarian or in charge)
working in university libraries of Punjab Province and Islamabad (the capital city) Pakistan.
Only one and concerned library and information science (LIS) professional involved in collection
development process/department was approached. The findings of the study revealed
that three major types of gray literature accessed by academic libraries were theses/dissertations,
annual reports and catalogues. The theses/dissertations are accessed by libraries as a
follow-up of parent organizational policy. The gray literature is shelved separately and prominently
in the libraries; however, non-availability of proper collection development policy for
gray literature emerged as major issue in academic libraries followed by budgetary constraints
and lack of awareness. The t-test result revealed the need of various types of gray
literature in libraries and also highlights creating awareness of various types of gray literature
among the library community. The finding of the study is the helpful for university
authorities, academic libraries and working library professionals to manage gray literature in
a better way and increase the usage of gray literature in academic writing.
