Research paper thumbnail of Pulsed laser deposition of highly c-axis oriented thin films of BSTS topological insulator

The various growth parameters such as substrate temperature, Argon pressure in the deposition chamber and target to substrate distance are tuned to obtain the optimized conditions essential for stoichiometric and bulk insulating TI thin films. These films are highly c-axis oriented and exhibit all the four Raman modes characteristic to the R3 ̅ m space group. The quality of the deposited thin films is investigated using X-ray diffraction for crystallinity, Raman spectroscopy for lattice dynamics, morphological studies using scanning electron microscope and compositional analysis using Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Resistance vs temperature measurements confirm bulk insulating nature of the prepared thin films and magnetoresistance data exhibits the phenomena of weak antilocalization with a large phase coherence length. As the primary goal of this study, we wanted to determine how pigment color production differed between clinical strains of P. aeruginosa, and whether or not that variation was associated with multidrug resistance or the ability to form biofilms. We screened in total 30.1% of yellow, 39.8% green and 30.1% of no pigment-producing P. aeruginosa strains from a total of 143 various clinical isolates. Yellow pigment-producing strains presented significant resistance to antibiotics groups, including β-lactam (91.5%), aminoglycosides (70.5%), and carbapenems (51.9%) compared to green and non-pigmented strains. Notably, 16.3% of yellow pigment-producing strains were resistant to colistin which is used as a last-resort treatment for multidrug-resistant bacteria, whe...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the leading causes of nosocomial infections in clinics. Treatment options for P. aeruginosa have become increasingly difficult due tdo its remarkable capacity to resist multiple antibiotics. The presence of intrinsic resistance factors and the ability to quickly adapt to antibiotic monotherapy warrant us to look for alternative strategies like combinatorial antibiotic therapy. Here, we report the frequency of P. aeruginosa multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistance (XDR) phenotypes in a super-specialty tertiary care hospital in north India. Approximately 60 percent of all isolated P. aeruginosa strains displayed the MDR phenotype. We found highest antibiotic resistance frequency in the emergency department (EMR), as 20 percent of isolates were resistant to 15 antipseudomonal antibiotics. Presence of plasmids with quinolone-resista...

However DLP is used over commutative as well as non-commutative platforms but CSP is used only over non-commutative platforms. To harden the security of cryptosystems using DLP and CSP as base problems, various authors have combined these two problems to form a new problem called Discrete logarithm with conjugacy search problem (DLCSP). It has been used to design key exchange protocols and signature schemes over the general linear group with entries from group ring, that is, GL n (q [S r ]). In this paper, we show that, if someone can solve DLP in polynomial time over some finite extension of q , then DLCSP over GL n (q [S r ]) can also be solved in polynomial time with nonnegligible probability.

The CB-HMAC is specially designed for short packet transmission in a dense home network environment. Simulation results show that the proposed CB-HMAC is more energy-efficient than other medium access control (MAC) protocols without sacrificing much delay and throughput.

In case of tomato, brinjal and chillies, only healthy looking seedlings are preferred for transplanting as they help in better establishment and disease management. Damping off of seedlings is a serious disease problem caused by various fungal pathogens like Pythium aphimidermatum, Fusarium solani, Rhizoctonia solani and Phomopsis vexans causing considerable damage in the form of yellowing, stunting and consequently the seedling mortality at pre/post-emergence stage. Role of hydropriming, biopriming, polymer film coating, plant growth promoting hormones and plant extracts in seed enhancement was reported in some crops. In the present investigation, hydropriming which is a simple, economical and environment friendly type of priming in which seeds are soaked in water and dried before sowing; biopriming which is a revised vers...

Serotypes commonly associated with neurological manifestation are DENV-2 and DENV-3. We plan to detect the serotypes related to the neurological presentation in dengue infection and its correlation with different neurological complications and outcome. In this case–control study, consecutive dengue cases with different neurological manifestations were enrolled along with age and sex-matched controls (dengue patients without neurological complication). Serotyping using RT-PCR of samples of cases and controls were done. Level of correlation was analyzed with various parameters and outcomes. In cases out of 33 samples, 6 sample serotypes were detected, which were composed of DENV-1 (n = 2) and DENV-2 (n = 4). In controls, DENV-1 (n = 5), DENV-2 (n = 6), and DENV-3 (n = 3) were detected. When statistically correlated, no significant association was found in cases and controls with dengue virus serotype. The frequency of serotype 2 was higher in hypokalemic paralysis cases than non-hypokalemic paralysis cases and the difference was significant (p < 0.05). The outcome was good (mRS < 3) in all the cases where serotypes were detected, but on statistical correlation, it was not found significant (p > 0.05). DENV-1 and DENV-2 are associated with neurological manifestation of dengue infection, which is different from the existing literature, where DENV-2 and DENV-3 are reported. The detection of DENV serotype will help in predicting and best management of neurological complication. The serotype 2 of dengue virus is more commonly associated with dengue-associated hypokalemic paralysis than other neurological complication (p < 0.05). There is no significant association of serotypes with outcome or mortality.

The R protein diversity may be attributable to the different fungus employed by pathogen in species, but it is also a consequence of multiple defence strategies being employed against phytopathogens. Mutational analysis of barley has identified additional genes required for activation of an R gene-mediated defence response upon pathogen infection. In some instances very closely related barley R proteins require different proteins for defence activation, demonstrating that, within a single plant species, multiple resistance signalling pathways and different resistance strategies have evolved to confer protection againsta single pathogen species. Although the apparent diversity ofcereal resistance mechanisms, some of the additional molecules required for R protein function are conserved amongst cereal and dicotyledonous species a...
