Children with epilepsy in comparison to healthy children are more at risk for behavorial and cognitive disorders. In this study we examined the depression and anxiety in children with epilepsy compared to healthy control group. Materials and Methods: This case-control study was conducted on patients who referred to child and adolescent psychiatric clinics of Dr. Sheykh and Ibn-e-Sina Hospitals in Mashhad (Iran) during 2015-2016. In this study 30 epileptic children aged 8-12 years and 30 healthy children with the same age and gender were selected. Depression–anxiety symptoms were measured by Children Depression Inventory (CDI), Children's Behavioral Issues List (CBCL) tests and demographic data. The major stressors and information about characteristics of epilepsy were achieved by questionnaire. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, chi-square, Fisher's exact tests, indep...

Firstly, by informing all the deaf who had registered in Mashhad Center of the Deaf, 39 subjects agreed to participate in the study. Then 24 volunteers who had diploma and higher education and were suitable for getting emotion regulation training were selected. These deaf people were randomly divided into control (12) and test groups (12). The test group received emotion training and the control group did not receive any treatment. The questionnaire of quality of life and social adjustment were completed as pre-test and post-test in both the test and control groups. Finally, for analyzing the data, covariance analysis and SPSS 18 software were also used. The present study indicated that emotio...

The objective of this study was to examine the effect of attachment based play therapy on children with history of traumatic experiences and having developmental traumatic disorder (DTD) and parenting stress of their mothers. Fourteen children who were diagnosed as having DTD based on Vander Kolk criteria, were selected from child psychiatry clinics in Mashhad, Iran. Their parents permitted to be involved in this study. Patients were divided to 2 groups of intervention and control groups in waiting list. Mothers of all children completed Yule's scale and evaluation of children's stress parenting stress index-short form (PSI-SF) for evaluation of parents' stress. Ten sessions of play therapy were conducted for intervention groups. Then all mothers completed the tests again. Results revealed that there were not any significant differences in age, sex, grade of children and in the age and education of mothers in t...

Investigation reveals that mothers of children with ADHD higher levels of depressive and anxiety symptomatology than do mothers of comparison children. The aim of the present study was to compare anxiety and depressive symptoms in the mothers with ADHD children with control group. Method: Fifty mothers of the ADHD children aged between 6 to 12 whom diagnosed on the basis of interviews held with psychiatrist in the first referral to sheikh Child Psychiatry Clinic. The control group consisted of mothers of fifty children without any psychiatric disorder. The selected mothers were evaluated with Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory interviewed for the basic Psychiatric disorder,. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Chi-square statistical tests. Results: Our data showed the 20% and 10% of mothers had mild and moderate depression. In control group, mild and moderate depression was reported 6/7% and 3/3%, respectively. The differences between depression and trait anxiety in mothers of ADHD children and control group were significant. There was a correlation between intensity of the trait and state anxiety and the depression in mothers with intensity of ADHD in their children but the relation was not significant. Conclusion: The present study suggests that the Intensity of depression and trait anxiety in mothers of ADHD children are more than the control group .

The objective of this research, conducted in Iran, is to evaluate the parenting stress among fathers and mothers of children with ASD and find the correlation between severity of the disorder in children and the level of parental stress. Participants included 42 couples having children aged between 2 and 12 diagnosed with ASD based on Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) criteria. The diagnosis was made by two child and adolescent psychiatrists. Demographic information of the participants was collected using a questionnaire. The severity of pervasive developmental disorder in children was determined based on Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS); stress of parents was measured using Parenting Stress Index (PSI). Collected information was analyzed by the SPSS (version 16) software. Evaluation of sub...

It was previously reported that Mashhad, in northeastern Iran, is a new endemic region of HTLV-I. The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence and phylogenetic analysis of HTLV-I in Sabzevar, located in the southeast of Mashhad. In this cross-sectional study 1445 individuals were selected by multistage cluster sampling. Serum samples were screened for anti-HTLV-I antibody using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA); all of the ELISA-positive samples were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Long terminal repeat (LTR) sequencing was carried out to determine the type of HTLV-I in Sabzevar. In the primary screening by ELISA, 26/1445 (1.8%) of those sampled were reactive for HTLV-I antibody. Twenty-four out of 26 samples were confirmed HTLV-I infection by PCR (24/1445). The overall prevalence of HTLV-I infection in Sabzevar is 1.66%. The prevalence of the virus infection in men and women was 2.42% (11/455) and 1.31% (13/ 989), respectively. Seroprevalence was associated with age, increasing significantly among those older than 30 years (p = 0.015), and a history of surgery (p = 0.002), imprisonment (p = 0.018), and hospitalization (p = 0.005). Three out of 24 positive HTLV-I samples were selected for sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of LTR. The results showed that HTLV-I in Sabzevar belonged to the cosmopolitan subtype. The present study showed Sabzevar is a new endemic area for HTLV-I infection. Our study emphasizes that systemic HTLV-I screening of blood donors in Sabzevar and other cities in Khorasan province is important and should be taken into account.

This prospective and retrospective study included 112 patients, mean age 66 years, who presented with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding between July 2004 and February 2005. All patients were assigned a Rockall risk assessment score. The surgical on-call teams managed all the patients according to an agreed protocol. Forty-nine patients had a Rockall score > or =4. Endoscopy was performed in all patients, with 60% accomplished within the first 24 hours. The most common cause found was peptic ulcer (30%). Therapeutic endoscopy was undertaken in 10 patients (9%) with a success rate of 70%. Open surgery was performed in 3 patients. One patient died after having surgery and the Rockall score was >5. Of the patients admitted with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding, 90.2% were discharged without complication. Eleven patients died (9.8%) and all of them from the high risk group with Rockall scores > or =5. Their mean hospital stay was 17.8 days (range, 2-43 days). High-standard results in acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding can be achieved in a district hospital. The management, including the use of the operating theater facilities with operative and anesthetic support, was safe and efficient. A 24-hour-a-day endoscopy service is important to achieve early diagnosis and to plan management. A protocol and early endoscopy improve clinical outcome and reduce mortality, which occurred mostly among elderly patients with high risk scores. It is advisable to introduce the Rockall scoring system in practice.

In fact much of the global burden of some conditions such as ischemic heart disease is currently in lowand middle-income countries. Therefore, an integrated and effective clinical guide is highly needed for management of patients with stable angina. Materials and methods: Databases and web-related documents were searched in order to extract clinical guidelines on stable angina. After assessing the quality of guidelines, three were selected based on the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation (AGREE) Instrument. Then, a national guideline was compiled along with evidence and recommendations by the panel of experts. Results: Findings were presented in the form of clinical recommendations. For example, acupuncture should not be used in improving or reducing the symptoms of cardiovascular disorders in patients with stable ischemic heart disease. Concl...
