This study was carried out with the intention of examining the species composition of the possible disease reservoirs in the cutaneous leishmaniasis focus in the selected villages of central county of Qom province. Methods: Study was done as a descriptive, cross-sectional study on rodents (possible leishmaniasis reservoirs) in the selected rural areas of Qomrood and Ghanavat located in central parts of Qom province in 2010. In this research, a total of 46 small rodents were hunted by live traps from 5 selected villages. A Smear prepared from auricle or suspicious lesions on skin, and after Giemsa staining, the smears were examined for the presence of leishman’s bodies. After extracting DNA from positive smears, PCR technique was exploited to determine the parasite species. Results: A total 46 small mammals were hunted and identifie...

This study aimed to determine the spatial analysis of COVID-19 in Qom Province, using the local indicators of spatial association (LISA). Methods In a primary descriptive-analytical study, all individuals infected with COVID-19 in Qom Province from February 19th, 2020 to September 30th, 2020 were identified and included in the study. The spatial distribution in urban areas was determined using the Moran coefficient in geographic information systems (GIS); in addition, the spatial autocorrelation of the coronavirus in different urban districts of the province was calculated using the LISA method. Results The prevalence of COVID-19 in Qom Province was estimated to be 356.75 per 100,000 populations. The pattern of spatial distribution of the prevalence of COVID-19 in Qom was clustered. District 3 (Imam...

An investigation was carried out during April to November 2001 in Ghahan rural district of Qom Province, in order to identify the phlebotomine sand fly fauna. 971 sand flies were totally collected from outdoor and indoor resting places by sticky traps. Ten species of phlebotomine sand flies including 8 species of the genus Phlebotomus (Phlebotomus sergenti, P. major, P. alexandri, P. kandelakii, P. tobbi, P. brevis, P. halepensis, P. (Adlerius) sp) and 2 species of the genus Sergentomyia (Sergentomyia pawlowsky and S. theodori) were collected from outdoor and indoor resting-places by sticky traps. High indoor density of P. sergenti (46.9%) and P. major (40.4%) was found with the peak of activity in early July. Based on the results of the present study and also the related studies in other VL foci of Iran, P. major can be considered as the probable vector of the disease in the area.

Head-louse infestation is highly common in collective centers such as schools, garrisons and champuses; in schools, specially in feminine elementary schools which is dramatically high. The current study has been conducted to determine the prevalence of Head-louse and to assess the epidemiologic features of the disease. Methods: This descriptive cross–sectional study was done over 1725 feminine elementary students from 75 schools in rural counties and total urban districts of Qom province by a multi stage random sampling. Data collection was done by questionnaires and physical exams of the hair. Analysis was done by Chi-square and Multivariate logistic regression model test. (Significant level with p<0.05 objected). Results: 131 of 1725 survived students, were infected by pediculusis. (7.6%). The statistical meaningful relation was observed between the habitat, father's job and literacy, mothers literacy, family size, students grade, bath in home, bath times, daily comb, record of infestation in years ago, hygiene corrector in school, access or no access to primary health care and pediculusis (p<0.05 objected). But no meaningful relation was detected between mother's job, head hairs length, type of school, residing status (private, rental and other site) and the prevalence of Pediculusis. Conclusion: Pediculusis is still a health burden in societies with low health and life standards. The high prevalence of pediculusis among students in the majority of schools in Qom province is attributable to inadequate access to health educator and sanitation facilities and inattention to personal health and related factors else.

This study was conducted to identify these challenges regarding unique political, economic, and cultural issues, which could help other countries with similar situations. The present study was performed using a qualitative multi-method approach with a content analysis method. The data were collected through in-depth and semi-structured interviews and focused group discussions with 60 key persons who were selected purposefully, including policymakers, health care workers, and affected people by the disease, and the review of all available national reports between February 21, 2020, and March 22, 2021. The data collection and analysis were done simultaneously. Identified critical challenges for the management of COVID-19 in the health system were limited eviden...

Objectives: The present study aimed to estimate the economic burden of COVID-19 in Qom Province, using the step-down cost accounting (SDCA) method. Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study included all COVID-19 patients in Qom Province from February 19, 2020, to June 19, 2020. The patients’ data were collected in the form of major cost groups with integrated health system (IHS), health information system (HIS), and a financial software called Roozamad. The governmental, out-of-pocket, and opportunity costs paid by patients and hospitals were calculated and evaluated using SDCA in Microsoft Excel software. Results: The incidence of COVID-19 infection was 518 per 100,000 populations in Qom Province in the aforementioned period. The total government costs for the treatment of the patients were calculated to be 2,229,216,930,370 Rial...
