Both joints are connected by an intermediate shaft. The ball joint is modelled as a constant velocity (CVJ) and frictionless joint. Due to the plunging movement, the tripod joint is not a true CVJ but may be modelled as a perturbed CVJ. To avoid numerical solutions, approximated analytic kinematical equations are derived. Then, it is shown that for a constant input velocity, dynamical effects due to the tripod joint are negligible versus static effects. Accordingly, an inverse kinetostatic model with a constant input velocity and a constant output torque is introduced. Friction between the rollers and the tulip ramps and between the rollers and the trunnions is modelled using a viscous or a Coulomb approach. For viscous friction, analytic expressions of forces and torques are provided and numerical simulations are presented to validate these results. For Coulomb friction only numerical results are available. In particular, it is shown that viscous friction alone cannot generate shudder vibrations.

The flexibility of the methodology ensures better management of recurring changes characterizing the software in the prototyping phase. Also, due to its well-adapted structure, and automated aspect of its integration and implementation, our method...

The main advantage for the cyclist is to pedal with a minimum of torque and power variations to optimize its own physiological energy. On the other hand, one major drawback of the SHB is the systems’ efficiency. This paper focuses on determining the minimum overall efficiency the system shall have in order to compete with Conventional Chain Bike (CCB) on a regular city ride.

The main advantage for the cyclist is to pedal with a minimum of torque and power peaks, and therefore manage its own physiological energy. Nevertheless, one major drawback of the SHB is the system efficiency. This paper focuses on determining the optimal component sizing for improving the performances while controlling the financial costs.

Improving fuel economy and reducing the Greenhouse-Gas emissions have been the determining factor... more Improving fuel economy and reducing the Greenhouse-Gas emissions have been the determining factors in the development and implementation of innovative automotive technologies. Engine thermal management is one of the research fields that tries to solve these issues. Thermal management can be applied when controlling temperatures in different cooling circuits with an electronically actuated valve, which respects certain thermal management strategies. This control varies depending on several parameters such as temperature, load and engine rotational speed. This paper is part of a larger work that aims to improve the robustness of this valve design process since the early steps while minimizing the torque requirements of the DC-actuator. The first part of the paper will describe the mechanical concept of the valve and The second part will be focused on the hydro-mechanical model that is composed of four different sub-models that has been developed in order to simulate the multi-physical...
