Amongst these Laser and Pneumatic Lithotriptors are gaining popularity. This study was designed to study the efficacy and outcomes of both the available Lithotriptors. 200 patients presenting to the Urology OPD in our tertiary center were divided into 2 groups; first group being treated with pneumatic lithotripter and second group being treated with Holmium: YAG laser. Patients in both groups were compared in regards to mean operative time, successful fragmentation rate, mean hospital stay and occurrence of various complications in each procedure. Our study depicted results in favour of Holmium: YAG Laser which were substantiated by our data analysis.

Comparison of differential function of both kidneys in a healthy renal donor

Indian Journal of Transplantation, 2019

People can donate one of their two kidneys, and the remaining kidney is able to perform the necessary functions. Living-kidney donation is the most common type of living-donor procedure. But it has still to be ascertained which of the two is a better functional kidney amongst the two in a general healthy population. Aim and Objective: Our study aims to answer the same here i.e to Identify the better functioning kidney amongst the two in a healthy Renal Donor on the basis of DTPA Scaning. Materials and Methods: Ours was a observational study in which data was collected from the 398 patients who underwent donor nephrectomy at our institute from January 2014 to December 2017. A comparison of their DTPA scans was made and the results were evaluated. Results: Out of the 398 patients 298 were female and 100 were male donors. 39% of the donors evaluated had a differential function difference in the range of 0-5 percent. In both, men and women, the differential function steadily decreased with progress in age and was found to be statistically significant in both right and left kidneys. Conclusion: The main aim of our study was to find out the better functioning kidney amongst the two. And with the help of statistical analysis we were able to adjudge the right kidney a better functioning one.

In the absence of histological diagnosis and symptoms of catecholamine excess, paragangliomas may be mistaken for GISTs. Approximately, 50 cases of non-functional retroperitoneal paragangliomas were reported in the literature. We report a case of paraganglioma of the duodenum, which emphasizes the necessity to include extra-adrenal paraganglioma in the differential diagnosis and management of retroperitoneal tumors.

It can be primary or secondary. This is a case report of 52-year-old female with 180° anti-clockwise rotation of the appendix. Torsion can further leads to strangulation and infarction of the organ. Appendicular torsion could be included in the differential diagnosis of pain in right iliac fossa.

Journal of Evidence Based Medicine and Healthcare, 2016

BACKGROUND The urinary stone disease is one of the most common afflictions of the modern society ... more BACKGROUND The urinary stone disease is one of the most common afflictions of the modern society and it has been described since antiquity with the westernisation of global culture. It has led to a lot of distress physically, mentally and financially to the affected individuals. Mini-invasive techniques like ESWL and ureteroscopy have their own negative aspects with discomfort to the patient being the prime in it. Hence, a need for conservative management in the form of pharmacotherapy has arisen in the past years and here we are investigating the same. The aim of the study is to compare the efficacy of silodosin (8 mg) vs. tamsulosin (0.4 mg) both in terms of the stone expulsion rate and the time to stone expulsion. MATERIALS AND METHODS A study comprising of 120 patients between the age group of 18-50 years with sonography-proven unilateral, uncomplicated lower ureteric calculus was undertaken from January 2015 to November 2015. Exclusion criteria were calculus more than or equal to 1 cm. Patients were divided in 2 Groups; Group A received silodosin 8 mg once daily for a month while Group B received tamsulosin 0.4 mg once daily. The patients were followed up weekly or biweekly with imaging studies. The endpoint was the stone expulsion rate and time, the rate of the interventions and the side effects.

Adding to the rarity is the occurrence of Renal Cell Carcinoma in such a kidney. The incidence of a RCC in a Horseshoe kidney has not been substantially documented and hence makes it a challenge and interesting surgical exercise. We shall be discussing such a case here at length.
